Canon 6d Review by The-Digitlal-picture.com

"I can focus the 6D's center point on a subject with reasonable contrast down until autoexposure gives me a setting of 160 at 10 seconds and f/2.8 (really dark) with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens mounted (note that the 6D's metering range spec is listed at EV 1-20). The Canon EOS 1D X's center point could not focus on the same subject with the same lens mounted. Note that the 6D focuses very slowly under these dismal lighting conditions - but locking slowly is far better than failing to lock.

I'm having very good success with the Canon EOS 6D's center AF point. And this is again the AF point I am using most frequently on this camera. It properly and accurately locks onto subjects as I would expect. "

Nice work :)

I've started doing a similar thing with my 5D mk3. The last attempt of mine, taking 325 images over 4 hours ended up with heavy dew after image 24 :'(

What lens did you use?

I was worried about fogging up, but I got lucky. I think the combination of a cold camera (matching the temp outside), and the wind bowing around the lens kept it clean. I was shooting on the 24mm 1.4 II, which is one of my favorite lenses

Oh, I love that lens. I'm hoping to get one sometime, but I've got a 24-70 (looking at the Tamron, I'm pretty impressed so far), 70-200 2.8 IS v2 to acquire first. Then I can start going after the lovely, lovely primes :)

"shadow" at the bottom of frame/shot...

mirror lockup? holy cow.

Well, if when i typed " also, i don't think this is the problem here", people thought i was saying this is what i think your problem is, i really don't know how to fix that.
as for the flash duration topic i mentioned, my studio strobes ARE slower than 1/500th under some conditions. that is one head, at higher power settings. many are.

I've posted before about my love of crappy flash synch speeds, and again, i know all about it, and why they suck. Nobody seems to understand how i don't care about all that, i'm 100% certain some clever guys could make it happen. hell, i've got a fairly good idea for a work around, but i haven't the time.

anyone care to argue with my recommendations for the OP?

BTW- with an alienbees trigger/receiver combo i could net 1/400th with a speedlight set on full tilt with my 1dmk2.
yes, i know it's aps-h, just saying.

Zoom vs Primes?

I don't want to invest in a lot of money in glass until I hear from other photographers. I do a lot of photography in the streets with my canon 5D mark ii ( got from eBay at a amazing price!) . I don't have any lens at the moment. I'm thinking about the 24-70 mark 2 or should I just go for some primes for my work? What do you recommend me?

50 1.4 with the lens hood permanently attached. It's going for a good price at the moment and if you don't like it you can always get rid of it again without much of a loss.

Your third shot is quite amazing. Great ingenuity used as well. My wife and I had a short visit to Arches NP in early October, but not being familiar with the area, chose to hike to the Delicate Arch from the second parking area as the first was packed with vehicles. It was quite busy at the second and after a relatively short hike, we found we were quite a distance from the actual arch. The view was great, but I left my 70-200 in the car so the arch is quite small in al my photos.

When you took that photo, how many other people were there with you? At sunset while we were there, a large group was at the upper viewing area, with some people under the arch as well.

6D or 5D3 (or wait for 7d2?)

I am struggling with the same decision. 90% of my shots are indoor sports...with fast moving action and poor lighting.

I have a 40D now...and my go to lens is a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II...and my walk around is the Canon 17-55 f2.8. I have a couple of other lenses, but these two are responsible for most of my shots.

A 7D Mk2 would let me keep the 17-55 and give me great sports photography. A 6D would give me the better low-light performance that I crave. I suppose if I had to do it today, I would go for the 7D Mk2...if it existed...and looked like it had decent specs...and the price was not ridiculous. I suppose the 7D's final specs and price will be the final decision maker for me.

Funny we have the same lenses, and the same thought process, although you are more seriously into the sports shooting. I would love to keep with crop (a 7D2) and my 17-55, but between the fact that it must be at least a year or more away, and the fact it probably won't gain more than 1/2 stop in ISO performance, I think I am deciding to go FF.

Funny u got it from teds cause their the ones who told me they don't expect it til march. Tried 2 jb hifi just yesterday both said they got no idea when it would be in. I think I'm just stuck wit dodgy stores near me haha. Thanks for the feedback guys. At least I now know they do exist so I will just keep asking...
They should be able to order it in a 6D from different stores. What state are you in? The one I work at has 3 in stock if I remember correctly.
There's always a place to order it anyway. It's what I had to do with my 24-70 II.

Which lenses will match a 40+MP camera?

Not claiming to know everything (and even before it appears on the market) I kind of refrain from putting exact numbers on this case.

Nevertheless I am convinced that it is quite correct to state that most current lenses and also the better older lenses can be used with what appears today to be very high MP bodies, such as the rumoured 46 MP body.

I expect serious problems to appear only in case of compromise designs, for example cheap super-zoom lenses, which are likely to be used out-of-context of what they had been designed for. You will also be more likely to see defects/errors in other designs doing pixel-peeping, but related to the end product (a picture) what would be the point? Walls/prints/screens won't magically become larger, only crops in photos will contain more detail. That doesn't necessarily force us to crop from a corner of a lens with noticeable corner distortion and there are correction possibilities in post-processing, too, so I don't see old lenses going bad all of a sudden. We will just be more susceptible to buying better lenses, because we will be able to see the difference with increased clarity.

Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L Mk ii mini review

This weekend I hired the fantastic 24-70mm F2.8 L Mk ii lens after my trusty 24-105mm F4 lens finally died last week.

Anyway, this evening I got the chance to run a very bried test to compare it against my 70-200mm F2.8 L IS (Mk i) lens and my Sigma 50mm F1.4 lens, with everything shot at F2.8. I only checked centre sharpness in this test, but having used it to shoot a wedding yesterday I am mighty impressed.

Comparison images are on my blog and there is no question the 24-70mm Mk ii wins hands down! Now to find a means to purchase a copy of this lens... although I would happily do with the 135mm F2 first I think!

I like lensrental reviews. It's easy to understand for an ave Joe like me.

I can't believe I'm saying this... the new Sigma looks better than the Canon and now test shows is out perform the big boy....WOW. Where is 50mm f.1ish Sigma?

As for the Sigma 50 1.ish, have you checked out the Sigma 50mm 1.4 EX? Great performing lens at a great price. Used to have major focus issues (Never experienced it myself, but I've only borrowed the lens a handful of times) but apart from that, it may be what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info on the Sig.

I just picked up 50L. After a quick run through FoCal(-7 AFMA), the lens is excellent at f1.2
