Firmware: Canon EOS R3 v1.2.1 has been released

Canon, please give us the ability to set the burst depth in H+ mode for the R5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a feature old 1 series cameras had, but strange vanished from more recent menu options, on every Canon camera.

Being able to set/limit the burst depth is incredibly useful for a lot of studio shooting. We'd use it on almost every studio shoot.

Lexar announces the Gold Series CFexpress Type A cards, the world’s fastest

Yep, I'd expect Canon to add them to the lower-end cameras and maybe a dual system like Sony has done with CFeA & SD in the one slot.
Keep the CFeB cards for the higher-end models that might need the extra speed.
while there are few SDexpress cards out in market along with reader but compared to CFx A adoption to that format has been nearly exclusively for single camera maker and cards being restricted to handful of capacities(right now). I expect SDexpress is DOA and we might entire market shift to CFx A in coming years with option for users to use cheaper SD cards.

Ye Bee-eaters of Merrie England

In a nutshell, for static subjects when the light is reasonable, the R7 outguns the R5 for reach, and even when it gets darker, it is no worse when viewed at the same size in cm x cm or inches. When it comes to AF and tracking, the R5 wins. The RF acquires AF faster and tracks against a background better. I have been unable to get some dragonflies in flight with the R7 that I could with the R5, and the R5 picks up small or far birds against a busy background and sticks on them better. The R5 also better at focussing on near subjects with point focus. If you are shooting mainly perched birds and relatively easy in flight ones, then the R7 is for you. If the subjects are demanding, then you need the R5. For what most people shoot for 99% of the time and for me 90%, the R7 is a brilliant performer. I am really happy to have both.

As stated previously, the pics in this thread are sublime.

Furthermore, the supplied explanation above is informative on several levels, and full of specificity...and PITHY!

I suspect many of those who post here will agree.(y)

Aperture issue with 1992 Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 (only works properly at 2.8)

Thanks a lot!
I just checked if that's the case for me as well - and it is. Or at least I don't see the aperture closing when I adjust it.
This also explains why my pictures are all overexposed when I try shooting with a lower aperture.
No problem and I believe you won’t see it closing as Canon use stop down focusing so the lens always stays wide open and only closes the aperture as the photo is taken, that gets as much light as possible when taking photos to help AF.

But if you are keeping the ISO/SS the same but the exposure is always off when changing aperture then a stuck aperture is most likely.

Sapphire Coated Optical Grade Acrylic Prime Lenses at T1.0 to T2.0

It won't work if the acrylic is simply coated with sapphire as reflections will be terrible. There has to be a sandwich of coatings to lower the reflections between the acrylic and sapphire and then the sapphire and air on the other side.
Keep in mind that we are talking about an alternative universe here. Or maybe an alternate multiverse.

Canon EOS R3 and Canon EOS R5 to receive new firmware next week

I only would know why Canon don’t fix the Electronic shutter limitation to Max 0,5 seconds on the R5.
It is annoying not to be allowed to use the focus bracketing for sunsets on the R5 while it is possible with R7 and even R10 (obviously possible also in the R3).
Canon rarely, if ever, backports common sense updates. The R5-II will likely get the fix.

Post R3 deliveries in Europe here

If you're in europe

Interesting, but I'd pass on that even if I didn't have an R3: I'd only save 2.4% vs buying a new camera (47.138 vs 48.295 DKK) with full warranty from a genuine Canon dealer here in Denmark.

Canon has pulled firmware v1.2.0 for the Canon EOS R3 due to a bug

Canon recommends resetting the camera to default settings (via the menu) *before* performing firmware updates. Existing settings can be saved to a memory card and then re-applied after the updates. They also recommend that the lens is removed prior to updates. I suspect that many people don't do either.

Resetting the camera simply returns it to default settings. The firmware version remains the same.
I didn't know these recommendations and so, yes, I never did it

Stock Notice: Canon EOS R10 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM ready to ship

Got mine in hand, it blows me away to see and hear this little thing blasting away at 15 fps! It's a great little camera, though a little bizarre on which features they went over the top on (like frame speed, and 6k-oversampled 4k video) and what they skimped on (seemingly no reason not to get some version of the R3 sensor, battery, A+ doesn't pop up flash)

Canon R5 C - please help me

Have you checked the battery and setting for video? R5C in some more demanding video setups (e.g. 8K RAW with electronic lenses) requires more battery power and RF lenses may not work and AF will be inconsistent. Even two LP-E6NH batteries in a battery grip are not good enough for that and external battery source is needed for proper working of the camera's AF and lenses.

CANON R6 - PRICED OUT OF THE MARKET

The R doesn't overheat with video, unlike the R6 and R5. How both of these with various flaws STILL
They're not really flawed. Like a wedding videographer shows his or her clients high quality video that nobody will ever watch, Canon sells high end specs that nobody needs to use for a very long time anyway.

If I wanted a cinema camera, and I made my money creating high end videos that people actually watched (a.k.a. not weddings), I'd probably not be using any kind of hybrid camera. Wedding photographers are about the only people that would complain. If you're recording youtube videos at 4k 60, just why? And 8k has no real use case in today's world.

I can record as long as I ever need in a fantastic level of quality for my YouTube/IG/etc. viewers with my R6, and it does things wonderfully. Honestly, it's WAY overkill for the 1080/24 talking head videos I usually do, but I also love the low light, high speed capabilites of the R6. I could record as long as I want at 4k 24 with an Atomos too.

Canon markets these to the specs that attract attention; these cameras are AWESOME cameras. Look, a Ferrari "can" rev to 8500 RPM, if you keep it there, the car will die.

Canon R6 Hdmi Monitor Output

I own it and I don't have any HDMI issues it's probably people using older HDMI 1.4 which is not compatible with 4k/60. If your output to the monitor will be HD then any cable should work but in my testing some did and others did not work again this was for 4k/60 showing video on both monitors at the same time. I had it working using a Ninja V so it does work on both at the same time but you don't want that as it will help overheat the body.... There is jelly roll though... for video the auto focus is amazing.

However, it will be years until Canon will have a cheap full frame so whoever wrote that doesn't understand Canon's roadmap and the world supply of parts.

It's a pretty good camera but it takes some getting used to if you're coming from dslr at least it did for myself. As far as price increases, it is what it is...
