Leica announces two new “compact” SL lenses

I might be wrong but these seem to be just rebranded Lumix lenses that already out on L mount.
Same number of elements, of groups, f 2 instead of f 1,8 (no meaning at all) , and the, for Leica, very "low" price is indeed more than suspicious.
At first glance, I thought these were the Apo versions, but at such a low ;) price...no chance!

Nikon has a new pancake for FF (26mm 2.8) Help with flange differences please...

The Z 26 expensive? The RF 16 is a very inexpensive lens with quite a few, call them shortcomings or consolations. The Z 26 seems to be nothing of the sort and would on my camera asap if I were a Nikonian. Everyone's mileage will vary of course. However is it still 'mileage' when driving kph?
I'm very happy with my rf 16mm. This 16 x 28 inch print is in an exhibition. The RF 24/1.8 is about the same price as the Z26mm. I'm also very happy with that lens and would have it any day over a lens 2mm longer and about 1 1/2 stops slower. As Neuro notes, just as well we have different preferences.

Simmod Lenses world first – A re-manufactured rear element for a Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L

I did. Maybe it was edited in later? ("The Simmod FD-to-EF Cine Conversion kit with brass Edmika lens mount for Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L including remanufactured rear element + JIS screwdriver costs $330 US + taxes and shipping.")

It's a reasonable price.

New 1DX Mark II Owner - Is This Dirty Sensor Normal?

All the 1DX series camera have this problem. I used to send both my 1DX and 1DX Mark II in multiple times a year for cleaning. If you're a general shooter who uses the camera for landscape and/or macro work with the lens aperture stopped down, you will absolutely notice the oil splatter from these cameras.

The oil splatter used to infuriate me. I got rid of my last 1D camera when the R5 came out and haven't looked back.

R6 beginners video

I've started using my R6 to take video of my daughters dancing/singing on stage (they have many performances, so after I get all the stills I want, I sometimes I do video to document the show for family viewing). I don't want to get too deep into video, but I do want to grab any low hanging fruit available to me to get better than full-auto video. Like in stills, I guess some people must actually shoot straight to JPEG but pick settings to get it done pretty well in camera by tweaking modes like Portrait or Landscape. For video, I'm sure most of you shoot CLog...I want to avoid that if possible and be like a JPEG stills shooter who uses the camera presents...but for video. The challenge is mostly due to stage lighting.

For stills, I spot meter and underexpose by about 1 stop to avoid blowing out the skin tones. Processing the raw files is then pretty easy after I get the first image done the settings carry over very well to everything else. Ballpark is to increase exposure 1 stop, pull down highlights to -50, boost shadows to +50 and go from there. I tried a similar approach using Lightroom to edit video (because it's all I had at the time) but found the same settings didn't work that well and I couldn't push and pull things very far before they look totally distorted.

I did just download the free version of Resolve, so I won't be limited to editing video in Lightroom...that might help with the post processing...I hope. Mostly I want to avoid color grading which seems necessary of you shoot Clog. But I'm a total beginner and don't know what I don't know.

Any help is appreciated.

[TEST] Patona LP-E6NH vs Canon LP-E6NH and multi battery charger

Batteries are like half price cheper. Patona Protect recorded 1:42h of 4K material, Patona Platinum USB-C recorded 1:36h of 4K and Canon LP-E6NH recorded 1:52h of 4K.

Both Patona's are chargable with orignal charger but Patona Twin Charger is double faster than Canon ones. It charged two bateries at the same time as original charged one.

More details in the video, but full recommendation!

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II will be announced on November 2, 2022

It was obviously not the marketing department's best moment (yes, they emphasised 8k) - but some people's expectations were clearly unrealistic. And the recording times for different configurations were hardly buried in a footnote. I recall many of the people complaining were the same ones who reacted incredulously to the initial teasers that it would be the first body of it's type to capture 8K ('it's impossible - it'll melt down immediately!').

But it was a marketing disaster in that all everyone was talking about for weeks/months was interminable online tests on how long it took for the thing to overheat, and then cool back down. Until the miraculous firmware update that (?) fixed the issue by presumably adjusting the heat tolerances and postponing the overheating warnings. And I know some people such as yourself had (and still have) lock-up issues with the R5.
I agree. I think Canon learned some lessons and I do love the R5 (maybe even more than the R3) It has had some issues, but as an all around camera it’s the best Canon I’ve owned and I’ve owned a lot, including the 1D x II and III.

How frequently does your R5 freeze/lock up?

I’ve had this issue with my R6 since I bought it. The first time I sent it to Canon they said there was nothing wrong. The second time I sent it they replaced the logic board. It has now done it again after only a few shots with the new logic board. It’s heading back again tomorrow. I hope they give me a new body. I also had focusing issues until they replaced the board.

The Canon EOS R8 will be announced at CP+ in February

The fact that Canon is abandoning customers with EF-format cameras in favor of RF-format and ceasing to offer new EF lenses and bodies makes me regret trusting them and buying an EOS 5D Mark III.

I don't like the RF series LCD viewfinders which are bad for the eyes. I will not change either my equipment which cost me a fortune to adopt the range without RF mirror. I will abandon Canon, as they sadly abandoned me. And for this reason I will certainly never buy the Canon brand, which from my point of view abused the trust I had in them ;-(
I hear you-- I have a 5DS and the body handling and feel is fantastic. Many of the EF lenses that I own were good for my 6D but looked terrible on the 5DS. You should maybe sit tight and grab cheap EF lenses used. There are a lot of good copies that will become available. I went to a R5 and have kept my EF 2.8 24-70 and 100-400 in use. Just have added the RF 14-35 and 70-200 but went F4 for price (hobby not a profession) I have used Canon since the early 80s and could make a mini museum, but cannot recommend to friends asking advise until the mount is opened to 3rd parties. Insanely love my R5 by the way.
