After the EOS R3, Canon will introduce new “affordable” RF mount cameras [CR1]

Hey Canon, I sold my M6 and the EF-S / EF-M lenses I owned. I am waiting for a first / second / backup body and I would like to have more options.

It seems like you may have sold a bit too soon, given the current supply chain shortages of integrated circuits.

You should write Canon if you want Canon to be aware of your predicament.

Never mind, Canon. I ordered a R6, so my second / backup body will be the R.

In which country is the Canon EOS R3 the cheapest, and most expensive?

You may be better at dickering than I am but I was astonished how hard it was to get the HK retailers down to even B&H prices, both for laptops and for cameras.

Best deals I was getting was a shop on Nathan Rd on the east side, I think across from the park.

Do you have a vendor you recommend there? Do you have tips for haggling?

I lived there around 2010-2012 so maybe things are different now.
I lived in China 2012-2014, so sounds like we had a small overlap.

Honestly, I didn't haggle much, but checked out the vendors in TST along Nathan Rd.

I bought the 300/2.8 from a vendor I no longer remember the name of, up near Mong Kok or maybe Sham Shui Po (found then on price.com.hk). They were up several floors in a building, you needed to buzz the door and take an elevator. They apparently were shipping a lot of lenses abroad.

IN SEARCH OF COLOR - Short film shot on the Canon EOS R6!

Great work, really good work at telling the story with the shots, angles, and nice background music as well. Were the drone shots shot on the R6 as well?
Thank you! There were two drone shots in the film if I am recalling correctly but those were done with my Autel Evo 1, which has a log profile of its own, so I was able to match the color from it to my R6 in CLOG-3.

Canon registered two new ILC bodies

Canon left the 5D s in the lineup long after they dropped the 5DIII (which is the body they used). Was that because it took them that long to recover the costs and make a profit?

The 5Ds and 5Ds R weren't just a high resolution sensor put into a 5D Mark III body. They had some things that the 5D Mark III did not which then showed up in the 5D Mark IV.

Flicker reduction, for example. Also DiG!C 6 (mark III had DiG!C 5).

New Canon CR-X300 4K Outdoor PTZ Camera Provides Connectivity, Flexibility, and Protection from the Elements

Years ago, Canon bought a major security camera company, AXIS Communications. "It is fully owned by Canon Inc., although operates as an independent company within the Canon Group."
Axis cameras are (for the most part) an order of magnitude less expensive than this model. Canon has an entire security business unit with Axis, Milestone, and a few other vendors. I can't see this camera playing in that space.

Canon U.S.A. Inc., to Provide 120 EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lenses for Expansion of the Dragonfly Telephoto Array Project

I wonder what the advantage of using camera lenses over telescopes is for astronomy. 6" aperture telescopes can be had pretty inexpensively.
The formal rationale is very low lens flare of these particular lenses. Dragonfly studies galactic halos, they need optics with very low scatter.

Venus Optics announces the Laowa 85mm f/5.6 2x Ultra Macro APO, the world’s smallest 2x macro lens

A very nice lens. I had it here for several weeks to try on my RP

I've far more pictures than I've included in the reviews, so if anyone has any specific questions let me know?

A note for some - I'm an commercial/industrial photographer, so for macro I don't tend to shoot living stuff and definitely not outdoors if I can help it :-)

More images and detail are in the written article though

Here is the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM

This comment and even the answers you got assume that you are familiar with the construction of the Canon Big White lenses. The hood attaches with a clamp that is tightened by a knob that can be placed most anywhere around the lens. See the other answers and you can put the picture together.
Thanks, yes I got the drift. But it gives me an idea I can try to apply to other lenses - to 'sight' the object externally first.

Any chance of a final pentaprism 1Ds, before it all goes mirrorless....?

I would expect the 1D series DSLR to go the way of the dodo bird. Canon has discontinued several EF lenses so I do not see them allocating R&D budget into another 1D DSLR. With that said, I could see Canon selling the 1D Mk 3 for several years beyond the typical four year cycle.
That, and I bet we'll see updates to the Rebel/xxxD/xxxxD line of DSLRs. The EOS 1v was sold for a long time after 1-series DSLRs came out.

RF Wide Options...........

I don't do much astro but when I do, the RF 15-35 is wide enough for me. The only drawback is when the camera powers down between shots, the focus "resets" and then I need to refocus (not always easy in the dark) due, I think, to focus by wire even in manual mode. Sometimes makes me wish I'd kept the EF 14mm/2.8 because I could gaffer the the focus ring once I had the composition set up before dark.

No touch and drag autofocus on R3?

To me, this doesn’t seem like a differentiation play. More like Canon decided users would not need it because of the smart controller.
Could be. Honestly, I've never found either the Touch and Drag or the Smart Controller of much use when shooting sports and since this is a sports-centric camera they may have gotten similar feedback from others. For events, people, etc., the Touch and Drag is very handy, but I think the Smart Controller may work for that as well, with the less responsive setting.

Rolling shutter for stills Sony A1/Nikon Z9/Canon R5 & R3

Picked up my R3 on Friday in Melbourne, shot a game of football/soccer on Friday night! Went in after only a quick setup, but came away amazed with the camera. I didn't really notice any rolling shutter, which for me was a deal breaker with this camera. I have done tests and can notice it, but in my first real world job I didn't have any unusable frames (unlike the R5 when I first took that for a spin on electronic shutter).

Thought I would post in here as an update, as I was the one questioning the rolling shutter.
