Hopefully it won't overheat. Since the sensor is smaller, might be a possibility. But then again, the hammer seems to never go away...

You have to use the AF tracking mode. There's a setting for "Initial Servo AF point for tracking" which lets you set it to the same AF point selected for single point modes.

I have my control ring set to change AF mode between single-point and tracking, so I can easily use single-point when I need a generic focus mode for one-shot or difficult servo situations, and then roll the ring to the left to switch to AF tracking mode. With the setting set to the same AF mode as single point, this makes it super easy to choose whether I want that single point to follow and track, or to act like a normal single-point.

I was considering buying a Canon EOS R5 but after much research I decided to go with a C200B for basically the same amount of money ($100 more). I don't have any photography needs, so the C200B fits my YouTube channel needs. Following Rubidium's 10bit workflow was a big selling point for me (watch 'Canon C200: 422 10 bit Workflow').

As usual, lots of throwing around of 'marketing' without any basis in facts.

VHS vs BETA: Beta was more expensive for both the players and tapes, it's video and audio quality improvements were minor and not able to be discerned except on the highest end home theater setups, and most importantly, it's recording times were half of VHS which was a huge issue given the price of the tapes was also higher. It lost on price and features, not due to 'marketing'.

As for Tucker, starting a car company was hard and they engaged in some shady business practices which resulted in an SEC investigation. The demise of that company is again much more complicated than 'marketing' and they were actually innovative at that aspect for their time.

Before I sold my 5D4 I was on the verge of trying out EOSmsg. Never did though, but it's the only Windows app I know of. EOS R is listed as supported it seems.

RF has an 85 with another on the way, a 50 and a 35. Surely the next needs to be a 24mm. Either a 1.2 or a 1.4L or a 1.8 or a 2.0 IS. A 24mm something and the 70-200 f/4L IS are on my short list. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that the only fast wide I've ever had is the 28 f/1.8 I picked up very early on before I learned about lens reviews...

Yeah, saw the one with the 28-70 f2 + R6.... was hoping to get an updated one w/ the R5.

I am still using the 24-105 f4 kit lens for that range, and am seriously debating replacing it with the 28-70 f2 vs 24-70 f2.8. With the R, the f2 wasn't really on my radar... but with IBIS, it looks way more attractive. The only thing that would prevent me from getting the f2 is size and weight... but not entirely sure that would really stop me. Always wanted to take up weight lifting again .

That really sucks, sorry this has happened to you. But now, we should see at least one R5 in the refurbished stock.

Andrew Reid bought a 1DXIII and returned it due to a malfunctioning scroll wheel, hard to believe given that its an EOS-1.

Ok I did another comparison, this time with something that wouldn't have a chance of moving. Both 10 second exposures at f16 this time, first one with IBIS on, second one with IBIS off. I also used the exact same focus for each. In the last one, I autofocused before each one, so that might have thrown off the results.

I really don't see a difference in this one.

Looks a little soft to be honest, which is why I boosted the sharpness/clarity to begin with. It was at f2.8 on the EF 70-200 2.8 ii.

If I buy an R6 there are ZERO 4K modes where it doesn’t overheat and on the R5, I have to be careful to put it in the correct 4K mode or I’ll have the same problem.
In these Run and Gun wedding situations sometimes minor Errors can happen that can become huge problems. With the EOS R I have ZERO worries that my video will be ruined by overheating.
In short: I’m disappointed in the new cameras since they don’t fit my specific needs. I came home late and made this lame thread and didn’t realize I clicked “SUBMIT” until I came back to this site. Thanks again everyone for your replies and insight.

The R5 and R6 are 100% reliable and considerably more capable at higher quality than your R.

To say you are disappointed by the product you are offered because you might set a setting wrong is laughable when you consider the multitude of other things that you could do wrong. But even given that just set your preferred video settings to a C mode and you are done it will never overheat, see, it does fit your specific need.

I think newer tech working better is unlikely as it would be a newer standard that isn't implementable retroactively, like SD and SD UHS-II. I understand some people need more than the R5 can do but for them I'd just say move on and get a camera that does do what you need. The R5 does do what Canon says it does and you should plan any purchasing decision on that, and by most reasonable accounts and examples I have seen the standard 4k is extremely close to the 4kHQ and that is unlimited. I have also seen accounts of people shooting entire weddings with an R5 in one of the HQ modes using it smartly with the published design limitations in mind.

There will be people making a noise and EOSHD seem to have staked their claim as being the most ridiculously mistreated by Canon for daring to sell such a POS camera. Others are using it for what it was designed for and within its stated limits and are loving it.

If I’m honest, I think a red tint is easier to deal with on skin than a green one. Red can be worked with, but green just looks....unnatural. IMO. That’s a change I lamented going from the 5D3 to the 5D4. Of course, no color cast at all would be ideal, but if one had to be picked...

It’s the blandness that I dislike though, not so much the tint. It seems to be challenging at best to replicate older colors, at least in DPP.
