The RP body is A$1751 (USD 1,222) on sale here in Australia now (no lenses no adapter). If you’re guessing USD above, that’s a massive A$2890+

My 2006 Mac Pro is still a good machine. It still sits under my desk, and I crank it up from time to time and use some of its features while I do something else with my iMac, and then finish audio editing and such on the iMac, though I'd be OK with doing more on the Pro, but I just don't need to. The only problem with it is that it won't run recent versions of the OS, and therefore won't run latest versions of some software. And, OK, I admit that on the most intensive uses it suffers in terms of speed. I used to edit video and then send it to Compressor and go to bed. Now it is more like I head to the fridge for a snack and/or I take a bathroom break.

My iMac is a 5K model from 2014, pretty well maxed out. I don't feel a need to replace it any time soon. It wasn't cheap, but splurging a bit then has paid off for me in its longevity. I was looking at getting a trash can Mac Pro even then, and realized, especially given the monitor situation, that this was a much better fit for me. The iMac Pro starts at $5,000, and is more computer than I'm ever likely to need. That doesn't say I won't ever get one some day. The new Mac Pro is a lot more serious machine. If you need one, you likely know who you are and will budget accordingly. It looks like they took the cheese grater theme and ran with it.

I know its been 2 years since post. but my 7D II started getting this error. I am prepping to send back for exam via CPS program. I have beat a lot of photographs out of my 7d II (A lot of Sports) already had shutter replaced. With the 7D being put to rest what should I switch too. or Limp along unti something new arrives?

the 2.8 version is for crop sensors only
i believe the topic is about the XP 10mm 3.5 for full frame

Without the extender and using a 'heavy' lens like the 24-105 or RF50 the RP will rub at the base of my ring finger leaving a red spot that takes about a day to go away. With the extender I can shoot it all day, every day. I have medium sized hands for my 6 ft length.

Nowadays I'm using the RP+EG-E1 mostly with the MP-E65 + MT24-EX. No problem with the weight or grip: Masked bee

This is a pretty cool concept. Any timeline on this lens?

I wouldn't think so. I did not expect anyone to use it to buy a submarine camera. Those who need them, I expect, likely have them.

I’d go for accessories - second battery, grip, etc.

The problem is that they can't afford to stock any of the higher end model equipment, just entry level, or occasionally a trade-in. They do order it and get it promptly. They have managed to get new models for me that no one else could get.

The true benefit of the new mount is that Canon, one way or another, is going to find a way to get RF mount users to buy "improved" versions of all their existing EF lenses. Regardless of whether they're any better.

Another consideration is that with so many ef lenses available on the second hand market, canon is positioning to make them obsolete and force cash flow back to them directly. Once you have an r mount camera, will you consider purchasing more ef lenses?

It looks to me as though Canon has settled on 24-105 as the market sweet spot for focal range for a normal walk around FF zoom, and they already have several out there. Unless something shorter and less expensive might capitalize on the small size of the RP. Some patents along those lines have shown up

Why can’t Canon come with a cheaper 500mm f5.6 lens!

I wasn't aware that this would be called "fixed length" or even "internal zoom".

So then the RF 15-35 would/could have a constant barrel with about 115 mm length.

The length changes as you zoom the lens. In the case of the 15-35, the front element will move slightly behind the plane of the filter threads, as current UWA zooms do.

IMHO Canon made a disservice to itself with the show. So eager to promote the R system it gave photographers just an R camera and the only two of the very few lenses available when the show was shot last Winter - the 24-105/4 and 50/1.2 (not the 28-70/2) No adapter and EF lenses.

Just, the first assignment was "archeological landscape" (at Ostia Antica site) - and the R system looked quite "poor" on the screen, as all the mirrorless advantages could not be shown.

Evidently they wanted to advertise the R system to a generic public, but I would have throw in a couple of TS lenses to show what Canon can deliver - I don't believe it's a matter of price if you show the 50/1.2

Had an F2 135 for years.

First shot with my trusty crusty 24-70 f2.8 in the dark with the R. Felt like my lens got an upgrade with af off the sensor and focused in areas in the dark where my 5d3 couldn’t.

Then shot with F135 and despite being an f2, had less of a hit ratio in same location.

Apparently so. Just a guess, but Canon is probably looking for the sweet spot in size between the M series (uncomfortably small for perhaps half the world market, but near perfect for the home market), and their DSLRs (uncomfortably large for the home market, but acceptable for US/Europe). Yes, for decades we have all adjusted to whatever size was available because we had no choice (anyone remember the Olympus OM-1 making quite the splash in the 1970's because the body was a good bit smaller than the other 35mm bodies of the era), but now that there is opportunity to optimize the size of the body for the largest percentage of the population, it makes sense to do so to maximize market share overall.

Which is the overarching goal. Crush the competition, take their market share, maximize sales and profits, please the shareholders.

That they can do amazing things with the shorter BF distance might very well have been a nice benefit, even if perhaps it wasn't the initial goal.

Those must have been really interesting design meetings.
