LOL! Usually market share data are brought up when somebody says, "Canon is doomed." The same folks who say Sony is eating everyone's lunch. Market share figures aren't brought out as shields from the truth, but rather as Sony Fanboi Prophylactics.

I continue test my lens. I've read https://www.canonrumors.com/tech-articles/how-to-test-a-lens/ article about testing. I've never tested lenses before in this way. I haven't any good printed charts for it, but i've used infinity object to test. I have attached the results. As i can see on pictures left bottom edge more softly then others.




I've create more than 20 different test: infinity object, siemens stars on the wall, led test, brick walls.
I think i have problem in left side of lens.
Other interesting thing. I test the lens on 5DM4. Also I test lens on 650D, from same distance. And on crop camera image more sharp than on full frame. Note: on full frame F4.5, on crop 2.8:



What do you think about my results?

A pretty good thread until individuals of a certain ilk persist in the usual. Time to un-watch and not gives these individuals any audience.

Since I last posted I sold this lens because the corners are soft. I got the 16-35f4L instead which is sharp edge to edge. It's not that much more money and IMO is definitely worth it.

I'd like to know how that building looked like w/o those smearings.

I tried with a 135mm yesterday and to my initial surprise I learned that eye af isn’t subject distance dependent, but how large the face is in the VF, so with the 135 I had eye AF at several meters away

I'm fighting the trend to think the same regarding wanting a second one. I try to not duplicate bodies.... so I think by the time the "next R" comes along, the 5D3 will have served its last... but who knows... might just want to keep a mirror body around too.

Thanks for posting back an update FTb-n. I assume that the adjustments have made a noticeable difference? Are the two now similar colours?

Actually it is a new software available only for the imagePROGRAF printers, and should offer more advanced functionalities. It's a version 1.0, it could still need some polishing.

But what are you exactly trying to achieve? Still trying to print the thin strip? It's difficult anyway to understand what is going wrong without knowing all the parameters involved.

Trying to guess, if you want to print a thing strip over and over without much space, i.e.

testing the printer
testing the printer
testing the printer
testing the printer

You will need to create a custom print size about the size of the text (with some space for the borders), select it in Photoshop, align your image as you need inside the print (in Photoshop), and then lay it out on the roll paper as needed (in the printer driver). There's also an option to minimize the space between prints, or the printer will add some to ease cutting.

If you select, say, Letter in Photoshop, center the thin strip inside it, and then print, the printer will lay out a full Letter print on the roll, and the next print will of course be printed after the "Letter" borders, even if it's just blank space. It won't act as a "line printer" where the next line is just below the previous.

Maybe it's easier to learn printing images than text.

I wouldn't use it in the rain without a cover. Didn't LensRentals do a teardown to show that the R has similar build to the 6D2? Weren't most of the joints overlapped but not all of them had rubber gaskets.

Sigma already makes a 14mm f/1.8 for EF mount. It got good good reviews, including for astro, and is only 75% the price of Canon's EF 14mm f/2.8

If I wanted to buy a 14mm prime, I'd buy either the Samyang SP 14mm f/2.4 or Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art, the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L wouldn't even be on the list. Which is why I think Canon might (not will, just might) turn this patent into a fast ultra wide lens.

I'd think that in a security product in particular, it is a matter of high ISO noise.

I had a chance to use E-M1X along with my old 1D X for indoors sports shooting - ATP 250 tennis.
1D X with even older Sigma 300 2.8 gave me a better overall performance and image quality. The price of the combo second hand was about the price of the E-M1X body only. With 1D X II and newer Canon lenses E-M1X would be far away from killing

Olympus E-M1X is a great professional camera, which gives you many opportunities for settings and personalization. Amazing image stabilization. Pleasant user interface and controls.
Disadvantage found during indoor sports shooting – there is a need for more predefined tracking focus algorithm for different sports.
If they really wanna show their best – we need some telephoto lenses like 120 2.0, 180 2.0 and 250 2.8. I did not invent those by myself – Olympus had such 180 and 250mm bright lenses а few decades ago.

Waiting is a very subjective concept. Not so much if there is a "real" need. I'm certainly not sorry I didn't wait relative to the 11-24 and now with the purchase of the R I finally got my desired ND filter. Unfortunately, my daughter liked the R so much that she bought it after our Costa Rica trip so here I sit with two EF to R adapters and no R.

I suspected this would happen so now I await another R type camera. I was quite impressed with the R but it was actually not in my hands very much. The control ring adapter used with an EF lens gives a very handy way to shoot true manual with accuracy, having ISO on the ring, which gets controlled with a right hand finger, the result being evidenced in the viewfinder.

Once again, I'm inclined to think Canon has produced a Camera that will sell in spite of all the usual negative press. BTW I waited out the 6D2 after selling my 6D and certainly don't regret that.

Thanks for the answers everybody. For work I take a lot of sports photos in dismally dark high school gym while I take wildlife photos in full sun for fun. That's what made me think about this question. Well that and the price difference between f/2.8 and f/4 zooms. (I use the Tammy 150-600 for birding, f/5-6.3 too)

For this sort of money Zeiss better make it the best money can buy (at least in 35mm format lenses). I hope Lens Rental doesn't find that the MTF plots of the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 are already better than those of the Otus 1.4/100. If so then the Otus is dead on arrival. Sadly, there is good reason to fear just that because the new Otus takes an 86mm filter whereas the Sigma takes a 105mm filter size.
