Canon officially announces the C700 Full Frame

I had considered adding an FS7 at one point due to it's high frame rate capabilities. However, as with many things Sony, the specs seemed to be a little bit "aspirational". I couldn't find anybody who seemed to be having much success using it above 120 FPS. Once I had the 1DX II, which also shoots (admittedly soft) 1080P 120fps, there didn't seem to be much point. By all accounts the FS7 is an excellent camera but if I had to choose between DPAF on the Canon C300 II and 60P on the FS7 I'd go with the DPAF every time.

Canon announces the CN-E20mm T1.5 L F lens

I may very well add this when it's released. At times we definitely need something wider than 24, but not as wide as 14. But what I'd really like to see is a 100mm macro cine, like what Tokina has. Well, that and a 70-200 T2.8 or 2.9 cine zoom and a user swappable mount system for their primes to go from EF to PL with full data. Duclos does a mount conversion on the primes, but it's expensive and they have to be sent off to be converted. It's really convenient and useful being able to convert my 17-120 from PL to EF and back at will and retain full data, power and communication with both mounts.

Canon applies for WiFi certification for a number of cameras

@jolyon - I'm glad your adapted lens combo is something you're happy with. Personally, the autofocus would drive me nuts on a lens that wasn't very casual use.

I know it's not perfect, yet, but there's absolutely no technical reason why it couldn't be perfect. Autofocus is simply a matter of controlling the motors in the lens to adjust the lens based on focusing information from the camera.

Assuming you know the protocols for the EF lenses (which are pretty well understood now) and for the Sony mount (likewise) it's simply a software issue to adapt one to the other. The only remaining issue is whether the body can focus fast enough.

And generally I only use primes with the A7RII so I'm not really missing the 24-70 much.

There ARE plausible reasons why the autofocus might not be perfect that isn't the fault of the adapters, such as the timing of communications protocols. It may be the case that the adapted lens is fixed to sending X signals at Y interval, but the camera body wants it at Z interval, without the possibility of change on either end. Then, the adapter has to make some electronics decisions, like throw some information out, perhaps resend some old buffered information, etc.

For example, if system #1 wants information at 0.07 seconds and #2 supplies information at 0.06 or 0.08 seconds, you can't square that. Even if it's faster, it is likely impossible for #2 to provide information at 0.06s, pause for 0.01s, and send another piece of information.

Obviously, it should be possible for the camera body manufacturer to fix that by making their body 100% compatible with another system in an emulation mode, but I can't really imagine that this is a priority for Sony.

Focusing motor broken on EF 28mm f/1.8?

Thanks for your support.

The screws swapped is an option, I'll check them again. There's also a copper plate inside, I don't know whether the position is important or not. I think it's just a heat protection for the plastic as it was not even tight before.

I think what you did wrong was take the lens apart without knowing exactly what you're doing.
those that know exactly what they're doing are the one that at least tried once without knowing. I took the risk, hopefully, it will be successfull..

Have a good day, thank you.

Review: Canon TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Tilt-Shift Macro by TDP

Yes, I demand a high IQ quality (of course!).
I tested the 24 TSE with 1,4 TC III against 2,8/ 24-70 II at 35 mm.
Sharpness and CR were really better with the 24-70mm.
I can live with it but would really like to have a native 35 mm TSE lens (and know of quite a few colleagues who would immediately order it as well!)

However thank you for your experience, perhaps I repeat my test (hoping for better results).

But (owning and loving the TSE 17+24) I am still waiting for a TSE 35mm!!
For architecture 35 is much more needed than 50mm.

Stop waiting. TS-E 24 f/3.5L II + EF 1.4x III Extender = TS-E 34mm f/5L with excellent IQ.

Tried this combination, of course. I am not quite convinced of the IQ.
Then you are demanding an unusually high output and should be shooting medium format or even large format with a scanning back. I have seen the highest end hotel and resort campaigns shot with the 24 + 1.4TC and the resultant large prints were stunning.

Mirror lock or live view for stills ?

bitm2007 said:
I have been using the mirror lockup feature to reduce vibrations when shooting landscapes with my Canon 5D Mk IV, it has been suggested to me that triggering the cameras shutter when in live view mode would be a better option for stills. It would mean one less shutter press (via remote cord) per image, which would be an advantage when capturing landscapes with moving elements like waves. Are there any disadvantages in using this method other than obviously not being able to see through the viewfinder and increased battery usage ?

With live view, you never get a "blackout" where you can't see the subject.

Maybe Canon should make a 50 1.4 IS (Ring or Nano USM)

Just an idea.

I don't know that anyone would even want one.

Just a thought.

;)

I might if someone could come up with some graphics and charts to compel me.

Or start a new thread to convince you?

Oh that was good.

Backup camera

When I travel on a major trip I always have a backup. You can have the primary camera w/ a grip and the backup without one. Then again will you use both or just keep the backup in the bag?

Depending upon our financial position, you might consider a 2nd 5D M4. I find it annoying to have different cameras with different controls.
