The Canon Speedlite EL-1 is in stock at B&H Photo

I think Hitachi designed this system under license for Canon and they are both under contract. Hitachi make flashes fr most major brands, all under licence and due to specific patents owned by different brands, some feeatures or work arounds are required for each brand. Frankly it's a quagmire.
Ever since the RT range, Canon's flashes have become so expensive and overburdened, I think they have completely lost their way.
Canon seem to have really pulled back with their accessories on the R mount cameras. From grips, flashes, covers, clips or even extension tubes. There's a lot of gaps and holes in the range.
I keep hoping for an updated set of macro flashes, for a much lower price than the current ones. I really like my EL-5, I can do most of the settings on the camera and the 'tap shutter twice' to ignite to modelling light is very helpful for focussing in lowlight or doing macro.
But it's missing nice things like a socket for external power and a USB-C socket for charging. It is also expensive for what you'd get compared to Godox.

The new fangled hot-shoe is also under-utilized, we have a mic, an audio box, some flashes and a flash controller. Where is the DJI receiver, like they have for Sony? Where is the powered-by-hot-shoe *** unit? Or the EOS-M style external viewfinder?

Canon 2000d - LCD issue

Hello :)

I'm considering buying a Canon 2000D whose LCD doesn't work, I would like to know if you can give me some advice, the price is €50 but I would like to know if there are cables that could be the problem and need to be replaced and what are their prices? The LCD screen could cost around €30.

Any advice about how fix the issue on that camera ?

CFexpress card reader mounted in new PC build -- possible?

I have the USB4 one, which is really, really fast when used on a USB4/TB port as well as the CFe+SD one, that is 'only' 10gbit/s USB3. Both are the same footprint and have identical magnets. I get around 700MByte/s out of the CFe+SD reader, which is about 3 times faster than the fastest SD card. The USB4 reader is, with the right card, 4 times faster, but that needs a USB4 port and a fast target drive.
I have the CFe+SD one, works very well. I don't need an SD slot, since my MacBook Pro and the Stone Pro dock for it both have SD slots, but I bought it before the USB4 version came out. Honestly, even though I have TB5 ports on my MBP and am writing to internal storage, 1/4 of 4 faster is still...plenty fast enough.

Best birding camera

Well, the point about it is not the camera is very old fashioned now, i can still use 40 years old cameras also, but this will never change the idea that we want new cameras whether it is amazing or not, we always believe new cameras means new technology thus new features or enhanced/improved performance, if i use an old camera 10 years old perfectly, why can't i use new latest camera even much better way?

Now it is now about how great new vs old topic, but which new camera to buy if most of them are almost in same quality, i won't buy 20 cameras to do sports to compare, and i prefer to see pro or high end or nice camera in the hand of pros than seeing same cameras in the hand of amateurs or beginners, i already have old cameras that are producing nice images for sure, but i want to upgrade now, no harmful in that, i don't need to wait 30 years to upgrade anyway, and good that i have new income which can help to increase my budget, but i won't just go with everything most expensive for that, but maybe middle road, so R5II is affordable soon, R3 is affordable later too, while R1 isn't affordable until maybe very late of this year, but is it worth it to wait for it and if i will use it to full potential anyway!!!

Doubt for using/view HDR PQ IMAGES (EOS R7)

Nobody can help me o answer me?.......
Hi people, let's see I have a doubt about the concept and I would like to understand and take advantage of the R7's ability to produce HDR PQ photos... I have 2 options or leave the quality in RAW in settings and activate the HDR PQ function with priority for D or D+ highlight tones ok? And the other option is to put quality only HEIF in settings... (With HDR PQ ACTIVATED)... DO I HAVE TO process that raw in dpp with HDR PQ enabled? I don't have an HDR monitor... but I do have a Samsung QLED 2021 TV that supports HDR 10 plus... can I see those enhanced HEIF or RAW/HEIF photos on the TV? By connecting the camera to the TV??? Or do I have to convert to JPG (HDR PQ) or HEIF (HDR PQ) first and then watch them on the TV??

Thanks
Seriously?? Nobody in the world can help me?? So hard question is?? Really??.............

Is a Canon RF 200-500mm f/5.6L IS USM a possibility?

This conversation is a good example of why photography clubs can't attract anyone under 60 these days
(y) (And also perhaps, maybe a bit because the term "camera" has changed to mean "iPhone", and "a photograph" now just means "a snapshot with a filter" for Instagram posts, and "photography" is being usurped by "videography" and "vlogging" on TikTok and SnapChat... Different audience there... not a good thing and not a bad thing... just a transition thing... still, it's in line with your point...)

Chinese Lens Makers May Bring the First Third-Party Full-Frame RF Lenses

Unless there has been a strategy change within Canon I don't see this happening. 7 years of the RF mount and not a single FF AF lens from a 3rd party has been licensed to date. Canon appear to want a largely closed system for FF, time will tell if remains that way or not. May be good for Canon's profit margins but many Canon users are missing out big time on what's available. Recently picked up the Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 Art and its a great one lens solution for studio portraits.

Is my RF 28-70 broken?

Hey there,

recently I go the 28-70 f2 for my R5 and I‘ve been really happy with it - so far.

Suddenly it seems to have real trouble focusing, mostly when it‘s close to or at 70mm. It makes a sound as if the motors were stuck. It‘s two months old, never dropped it or anything. Did anyone experience similar issues?
Mine just started doing this over the holidays. But unfortunately mine is about 3+ Years old. I wonder how much service will be?

R6 froze on me twice today!

Happy New Year, Adam! the issue might be related to the BG-R10 grip in colder temperatures, possibly affecting power delivery or connections. Ensure the grip and battery contacts are clean and secure. Also, check for firmware updates for both the R6 and grip. The R3 should indeed perform better in extreme conditions, but hopefully, this resolves the R6 issue for now! During my final year of university, essay writing became increasingly stressful due to the number of assignments I had. A friend recommended https://ukwritemyessay.com/ and I’m so glad I tried them. The service was easy to use, and the writer assigned to my essay did a fantastic job. The content was original, insightful, and properly formatted. Thanks to their help, I managed to submit my paper on time and received excellent marks.

Younger Generation Fuels Growth in Compact Camera Sales, are Camera Makers Paying Attention?

The younger of my two teenage daughters just asked, “Dad, do you remember those little cameras we used to have? Not the nice ones with the lenses that we used in Italy [meaning an M6 and an M6II], but the little ones we used a long time ago [meaning five years ago :mad:].”

I asked her why (knowing what her answer would be), and she said that ‘All her friends’ are getting or using little cameras like that.

She was referring to a pair of Panasonic TS-30’s (their equivalent to the Oly/OM Tough series) that I bought in 2019. One of the batteries is charging now.

Canon Officially Announces 4 new RF Lenses

After two days of shooting with the RF 50mm f1.4L VCM I slightly agree with Koenkooi that if it has a weakness it’s the lateral CAs. Also shooting directly into bright lights will give a strong green ring type of flare.
Overall it’s a super sharp lens corner to corner, has great transitional bokeh albeit not as smooth as the f1.2L but it certainly has character. It focuses fast, quiet and accurately and is much lighter in use than the f1.2L lens. I cannot say that the “clunk” when powered off bothers me it’s more noticeable than the RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM but not especially bad.
Overall it’s a great addition to the RF lineup and will sell like hotcakes and is a permanent addition to my R5 setup for portraiture.

Sigma updates Firmware for Canon RF Lenses

And you update the lens firmware via memorycard in your camera.
No Sigma Dock need.
Thanks for pointing that out.
That kind of cooperation between Sigma and Canon makes those lenses even more interesting to me.

For those wanting to check the update procedure, read here:
