Just sold my 85mm f1.4 - when it nailed focus, it was wonderful but the inconsistant focusing really started to annoy me.

I'll get a replacement wide-aperture portrait lens when I'm confident whichever one I'm interested in can deliver the goods. Until then, Canon's 100mm L macro and 70-200 f2.8 II will do.

Now the speculation.
If every pixel is a dual pixel, and thus a phase detect pixel, and if the per pixel phase relationship is recorded with each image, what can be done with this innovative data?

We don't have coherent light here, so I don't think it is correct to talk about "phase" for single light rays and image points. You can of course assign some phase shift value to a single pixel, but only after evaluating all the pixels around it and not with just the values from that pixel.

The phase is relating to the (light+dark) structures in the image. Let's assume we are taking an image of a flat, light pattern on a dark background. When the image is in focus, we get a perfectly sharp image and the partial images from the different parts of the lens have no shift and match perfectly. If the images are out of focus, the pattern in the partial images coming through the different parts of the lens are shifted and this amount of shift can be called "phase shift". Because of the finite lens area going into each partial pixel (actually half the lens each) the shifted partial images will still be blured (although only half as strong as the complete image).
If we have a regular pattern, it will not even be possible to properly determine the phase shift, if the shift is exactly a multiple of the grid spacing in the pattern.

Due to all of this, the final resolution of the "in-focusness" or the distance information generated from the dpRAW will likely be much less than the actual image resolution.

I’ll still be going with a Pro-2000, as I don’t need a crane to get into my house.

A very in-depth review, like the 3 sizes ink tanks improvement. That is indeed very handy.

You can already use shutter button to start/stop recording.

Is it possible this is another Zoom with built in 1.4x extender, given the 560mm long end number? I'm guessing the popularity of the 200-400 would have them contemplating another lens with an extender at some point.

I can definitely see Roger's point, though. The Sigma 150-600 S is the most front heavy lens I've ever used; it makes handholding more difficult even than the weight suggests because you have to support a lot of weight quite far out from your body when the lens is zoomed out.

But yes, it is really solid optically and has a fantastic build. The only other disappointment I had with it is that it doesn't hold aperture values very long (even compared to the other 150-600s) and arrives at f/6.3 earlier than any of the rest.

No Adobe give you a free fully supported program, DNG Convertor, that will enable you to work 1DX MkII RAW files on old software.

I concur. After DNG conversion they load right up in my PS CS5.

It's an extra step but it doesn't take much time to convert. The Adobe DNG converter is updated periodically to address new camera models.

So if a card contains say 2000 raw files what do you do? You convert them all and chose and edit later? And you keep two copies? Doable but not practical.

For goodness sake you have a $6,000 camera and you bitch that the first party free software isn't good enough and you don't like the concept of the new third party software even though they also give you a free fully supported way of not giving them any more money and working with your perpetual license!

1st it wasn't me with the 1DxII. 2nd this is kind of blackmailware... 3rd They could make and SELL a CS7. There are ways. Are you Adobe's sale agent?

Given what they cost, those RRS macro rails are a huge disappointment to me.

There is a huge amount of slop in them, especially problematic when making back and forth adjustments. Something like the MP-E 65 just throws a huge spotlight on the problem.

Henjar Photo has an extremely well made macro rail that is adjusted with a Mitutoyo micrometer. The price is relatively comparable and it's a much better product than the RRS macro rail.

And you can use extension tubes and a close up lens at the same time ;-)

I'm not sure why some expect light-field style post-capture focus adjustment. This requires very specific information, and very specific sensor technology to capture that information (yes, even for small adjustments). Dual Pixel does not help with that

What is the demographic of those who post photos to 500px?

Using that as a measure, only measures the popularity of cameras for those who post to 500px.

If I had to guess, the most popular DSLR are the D3000 series and the Rebel T5/T6 series. Simple economics. They are the lowest cost DSLR's. Entry level for mass consumers. They are also sold at Target, Walmart, and many other stores right there on display. Warehouse stores have pallets full of kits.

Other than a dedicated camera store, the only store where they have anything higher than a D5500 or 80D is Best Buy. My local Best Buy has everything on display except for the pro flagships.

A FF would not be a EOS M. Canon does not keep the same model number and change sensor sizes / lenses.

What we DO NOT need is yet another family of lenses that will have only 1 or less added each year until in 8 years there are 5 or 6 available. Yes, there could be a adapter for you to use for 15 years until a reasonable complement of lenses was available, but then, whats the point of having one?

Its a Quandry. Small sensor cameras are being displaced by cell phone cameras, many US buyers see small cameras as costing too much, why buy that small point and shoot looking FF model for $2,900 when I could get a big professional Canon Rebel for $700? They will go for the Rebel 19 times out of 20.

Serious pent-up demand in the dSLR Canon universe. I've been putting off buying a camera for at least 6-8 months expecting the 5Div. If I'm going to spend over $2K on a FF, it was going to be the right one.

I would suggest a lot of people have been waiting for the 5Div to be at least announced before they pull the trigger on their next camera.

We will see what the tail end of Q3'16 and Q4'16 looks like for camera sales.

It'll depend on the high ISO performance of the 5D4.

If it's stagnant, or a step back from the 5D3, if I truly decide I want more resolution, may as well just go all the way to 50 and grab the 5DS(R). The 5D3 (or 1DX II - still deciding) would remain the go-to cam.
