Taking all bets now for PhotoPlus

Canon made their new product announcements for PhotoPlus already. The C100 Mark II. It will be on display.

Canon makes their new Camera announcements a week or more ahead of a event like PhotoPlus. That announcement was all I'd expect.

Since PhotoPlus started yesterday, there will be no more major announcements.

5D Mark II with selector dial mod

Jim Saunders said:
I found with a battery grip, when hanging on a Carryspeed strap, that it would alter the setting. That is admittedly an odd configuration and I wouldn't carry it like that again even if I still owned it.

Jim
I never figured out why mine would alter the setting and I had the modification done. But it was when I had the grip on and a BR strap. Maybe that was the answer all along.

Should I buy a 1dx

HurtinMinorKey said:
One good thing about Canon's history of modest upgrades is that you can be relatively assured a 1DX mk II won't completely obsolete a mk I. It's one of the reasons Canon bodies have a pretty solid resale value.

According to those pro's who tested it, the 7D2 gives the 1DX a run for the money.
The big drawback on the 1DX is the lack of a good silent shutter at both single shot and higher speeds. Other than the obvious build quality advantage, bigger battery and the fact you can use it in portrait mode more easily I can't see the need to move from the 5D111 unless you want those high fps which is useful on occasion. I think I'd check out the 7D2 first.
If you have invested in lots of SD cards you won't be able to use them in a 1DX either.

missing reviews of 400mm f/4 DO IS II

Don't expect Canon to be passing dozens of these around to reviewers like the 7D MK II which is intended for the general public. Only a few 400mm D) II's will be produced as compared to consumer bodies.

The lens is likely difficult to produce, DO technology still requires a lot of magic. Don't be surprised if the deliveries are delayed a few months.

I think 'Shootit' was right to be pissed off with you people! I also think you guys are more interested in imaginary stuff than real S___! Judging from your 'work' most of you need some serious imaginary cameras to achieve a decent photo!!

HAHAHAHAA!!!!

Salut, stupid CR forum!!

Ps to Shootitalready: don't hang around with these dumb LOOOOOOSERS, mate, they don't know the first thing about photography!!!!!! >:(

Salut, troll! The others were merely pointing out good truths.

One of the reasons I prefer exposure stacking over HDR is that, for me, it looks more natural than HDR

Exposure stacking is HDR.

I think he means stacking multiple identical exposures, which technically speaking does not actually require something like a 32-bit float "HDR" file or anything like that. Exposure stacking, when you have still scenes, can reduce random noise (although it will reinforce non-random noise, which is bad), and improve dynamic range. If you stack a bunch of 16-bit TIFF files converted from 14-bit RAWs, you can gain more dynamic range, for sure, but in general I wouldn't normally call that "HDR"...you don't get a minimum of 20 stops of DR like you usually do with a true blend to 32-bit float.

Lens identity?

Not to worry, there are more important things than checking signatures, and if I hadn't already thought about it your suggestion would have been necessary!

Cheers, Graham.

Hi lintoni.
Thanks for the thought, seller says battery is charged, but I have a 40D so would take a spare in pocket just in case.

Cheers, Graham.

It might be worth asking friends if they have a camera that uses the same battery (BP-511) and borrow a battery, just to check that the camera works, if you do get your offer accepted.
Duh! Should've checked your sig before posting!

EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS Replacement Coming in November [CR2]

Canon Rumors said:
The new design resembles the EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS with a thin focus ring at the base, and a wider zoom ring near the front element. The aperture range for the lens will remain at f/4.5-5.6. Another mentioned feature is in the lens hood for the lens. It sounds like there will be a retractable opening near where a filter would be, so you could turn your circular polarize easily if you needed to.</p>

70-300 is nice compact and sharp zoom. Not up to the 70-200 F2.8 II IS or 200-400 standards but reasonably sharp.

I have wished Canon would extend this lens by 30% on both ends but keep the weight and size down.

Perhaps it will happen - I can only hope.

Is this 70-200 2.8 II worth buying?

I paid $1600 for mine as a Canon refurb about 1-1/2 years back.

Note that on the below price history graph, the price has dropped more and more each year starting around black Friday. You can form your own opinion as to what will happen this year, it depends on inventory and sales, I doubt that even Canon knows how low they will go.

Broncolor Derivative

I recently encountered an old pack/heads system at a camera show that used Broncolor sockets for attaching the heads to the pack. The owner told me that it was made in France a while ago. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer. In my head it starts with "Godo...", but all I can think of is Godox which clearly isn't French and hasn't made Broncolor mount stuff. The pack was black and had red trims where you would normally find light blue on original Broncolor equipment.

Anyone knows what manufacturer I'm talking about?

Thanks

Testing the Sigma 50mm Art lens in my style of photography

Are the AF issues across the board (i.e. with all bodies) or does it only happen with the 61pt AF system bodies?

For example, my Tamron 24-70 VC does not work well with the 5D-III but works fine with my 6D and 1Ds-III. So does the Sigma lens have a compatibility issue with the 61pt AF system or is it just completely unreliable due to some design issue (e.g. excessive slop in AF gearing or field curvature etc...) ???

I can't comment on your question directly because I only have one camera body. However, looking back at the shoots I did while I had this lens I'm noticing something... it only front focused in the low light situations but all of the daytime shots look spot on.

The focus ring on the copy I rented was tightly assembled... stiffer than either of my f2.8 zooms. I know that doesn't necessarily correlate to AF performance, but thought someone might care to know.

7Dii AF performance

According to Roger at Lensrentals the Sigma 120-300 os identifies itself as a Canon 135 f2 when attached to a Canon body. http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/08/canon-illumination-correction-and-third-party-lenses

The 7Dii AF Manual lists the 135 f2 as one of the lenses that can utilize all 65 AF points as well as the centre cross type point (ie: full access to all AF functions). That's encouraging - we'll see if it actually works in November.

You need to get the latest Adobe Reader, that fixed it for me.
I've tried using the af manual but it keeps asking for a password. Any idea what it is?
