Sorry to hear you are having an issue. If the display goes blank when rotated (vari-angle), then yes, there is a problem with the LCD. It doesn't matter what happens when you close it screen facing out. The behavior indicates a problem in the connection shaft .

I would imagine that a larger viewfinder will make things more accurate for tracking the eye (more room to place sensors). Would be nice if we had the option to get eyecups big enough to fit around glasses so little to no stray light enters when looking through the EVF.

Having a 20-240 IS L (or non-L but like the 200-800) would be great. 3 lens set would cover you from 10-800 for a crazy 80x zoom range with very good image quality!

That would cause either a blackout or duplicate frame in the EVF, not something you want if you are trying to track something.

I suspect it's just an oversight and they left it at 30fps that the R3/R7 firmwares have. The supported lenses should be fast enough to move with those tiny steps at a gazillion fps!

A RF 10mm f3.5 (full frame) would be a nice occasional wide lens to take on holidays and walkabouts, assuming that it's small, cheap and light. . If you are using a R5, the APS-C crop mode gives you a nice 16mm option.

seriously, I think I got that status since the 5D mk III, which I kept till this day, the only desire for me to get a R5II or R6II is the 5D is showing it's age and shutter count, I am getting aware that it can fail anytime so need a backup camera on hand for the day to come.

The R5 MKII however is the volume prosumer camera and if it comes in summer or autumn (fall) it will sell out like the original did.

You might see some L primes announced in mid-February so only another few weeks.

Yes, the R8! For indoor family shots it is much better than the R5, the HF anti flicker works well with the LEDs in the house and the AF does a much better job at detecting my kids eyes.
But I do miss the 45MP, buffer and CFe speed of the R5, especially after discovering a kingfisher and a pair of harriers living within half a mile of where I live.

A belated Thanks for this! It looks like the RF 35/1.8 coma and astigmatism problems go away between f/2.8 and f/3.5. Behaviour not unlike the 24/1.8.

Means that on zoom lenses, while you manually zoom, the lens itself moves the focus motor to compensate the change in magnification and keeping the subject in focus without any re-focus action (manual of via AF) from the operator. Cine zooms are usually done to be optically parfocal, while for photo lenses is less important; so some new photo lenses can be made electronically parfocal without messing with optical scheme design as you would do for a cine lens.

Wouldn't hurt to try something newer. You seem familiar with your gear. I am sorry to hear that your batteries leaked and destroyed your Canon flash.

There is a responsive user group on facebook for Godox lights of all kinds. The R5 is a popular camera, and many users discuss using it with flash and strobe. It is called "Godox User Group." Private, but I was able to join within 24 hours.

If it were a high quality lens, I think so. I can imagine a third party company getting it almost down to 1000 g, but most people would stop it down to 6.3 to get a good image.

It will. You can even use it with a lens with no electronics. The only difference is the camera wont display distance (but you'll probably have it on older lenses anyway) and the red arrows that become green when in focus also won't display. More useful than peaking, to me is the magnification feature.

I get what you mean about Auto ISO in low light; it can be a pain. Mapping the control ring to ISO is a smart move to stay in control. And yeah, sometimes you gotta shoot fast in changing conditions.
