Looks like a great idea! I'm already using the Capture One remote capture (which requires a wifi laptop tethered to the camera) so the Canon implementation looks miles better.

I note in the screen grabs that the 7D is mentioned, is this a function that can work with the WFT grip? What about a T3i with Eye-Fi card?

Been looking for a less clumsy way of doing things and this app looks great! Not going to buy a 6D though.

I had version II with the plastic (crap) hood which doesn't really reverse mount properly and scratches if you breathe on it.

The version I was identical in every way except that it had a metal sliding hood constructed into the lens. If I were to consider this lens again I would probably seek out a Mk1 for the hood issue alone...

Either way, optically superlative lens which is joyful to use.

I use a monopod or tripod most of the time, and I would really recommend the tripod mount, although the lens is fairly light for it's type, if you shoot sports the tripod ring makes it really nice handling on a monopod for pans etc.

I'd like to take photos with wireless flash with my 5diii.

I have a 430EX, 4 manual Panasonic flashes and two 350w strobes.

I'll need to use: TTL, HSS, 2nd curtain wirelessly and I need something reliable.


Q1) I'm considering 600ex-rt & st-e3-rt. How could I add my existing flashes to fire with this setup?


Q2) The 600ex-rt & st-e3-rt is a little pricey [$860 @ B&H], so is there a more cost-effective way?

PS 2x 600s and 1x e3 could probably be ideal, but I'm not a professional photographer so I wish to avoid spending so much.

AvTvM: I had tried that several times and the lens does NOT focus in AV mode, for example, pressing shutter down half way. Both with an old 1.x firmware and the latest 2.0.3. In AV mode after "clear all camera settings" the only way to get focus automatically is with the AF-ON button.

Markus: Thank you. For some reason you got through the fog. Please report to Canon HQ to help write their documentation! Even after the reset all settings, it was still sitting in the stage you described, so I needed to make the change.

Now I can perhaps learn the new function and when I forget to press the AF ON button, it is there in shutter as a safety catch for now.

Different uses. The 50 can be used a general walk-about lens on FF; a lot fewer people would use a 85mm on FF for street. In practice, it doesn't really matter because one can use 35/50/85 on a crop or 50/85/135 on FF and they would give roughly the same framing but different DOF. The difficulty is that there is a lack of fast glass on the wide end. The 24 f/1.4 would require a fast 15mm lens, which does not exist...

I think that having 3 WA zooms makes sense because there is a large spread in price. Some may want to use screw on filters while others can't afford a 2k+ lens. Nikon also covers the WA FL range with multiple zooms.

I don't know that. However, I would think Nikon users should have a lot of complain for their high ISO and FPS on D800.
If you like the Canon/Nikon, you should expect they make better products for you. If they cannot, you should be disappointed. Actually that's weird for me if people take whatever Canon/Nikon provide to you without any complain.

I'd check for excessive hot pixels on the sensor, try to "clear" them.

You're going to have a few, thats the way it is. If there's a boatload, then I'd exchange.

A few - I've got one "big red" on my 5d2, and dimmer red, and two dim blues, and one dim green.

I'm waiting until warranty is almost up, then I'll send it in to have them mapped out. Right now, they show up at moderate (800-1600) ISO and long exposure, low ISO and very long exposure, or high iso (3200+) at anything over 1/8 sec or so.

If you get sideline passes to either football or soccer, the 120-300 will be really cool. Just be prepared to move around. If you want head-on end zone shots, bring a shorter length lens or back up and shoot at 120mm.

I have noticed a slight colour change between the RAW file and Large JPG of the same image in camera.. Not sure why it would do it..

Yes, I did write about this issue before and Canon did offer some suggestions and none helpful. Still the problem remains, if you press the joystick down with the need to quickly go to the center sensor, as the manual states, it often does not.
For me it creates a big problem shooting sports.
Since the Olympics just ended I can't help but wonder how Canon photographers used the joystick, and I'm looking for comments before I consider taping over the button. I just covered a soccer game and missed many shots, good thing it wasn't the Olympics. When I am able to control AF position it is fast and responsive.

No idea of the specific numbers, but much of the expense is the glass. In your example, the 17-55 has three aspherical elements, one of which is moulded glass and the other two are replica elements. The 24-70 II doesn't have a block diagram available AFAIK, but the MkI version of the lens had a ground/polished aspherical element at the front (i.e. the biggest, most expensive element). Also, many of the elements in the 24-70 II are larger than the 17-55, because of the larger image circle.

But as mentioned, mostly the price is a function of marketing estimates of what the target market is willing to pay...

Well, looks like I tied the score . Until we see some pics from an unbiased photographer shooting with a 6D, I don't think many would hazard a guess. I certainly would not... The safe answer is 5D2. My answer is save the cash for 5D3. But what do you shoot? What lenses do you have? Is your camera dying?

Does anyone have a BoM and unit price of a FF sensor (and not the loaded numbers that Canon provides) but from an independant source.

I am looking for a wireless remote that will trigger the flash/shutter as well as do non-flash shutter activations including multiple shots and long exposures. Any recommendations and advice would greatly be appreciated.

I don't like many things about Nikon - UI, ergonomics (backward lens mounting, backward zooming, backward focusing, grip, button layout), lack of aperture control in LiveView, possible green LCD tint , customer service, no free image editing software, more expensive higher grade lenses, arrogant fanboys. That may take some getting used to

The reason imho is very, very simple: To put the specs below the 5d3 (22mp) and 5d2 (21mp). The design of the 6d is purely marketing driven (af, x-sync) - if they couldn't get away with simply recycling the 5d2 sensor and didn't want to cannibalize the 5d3 a "new development" was the only option.

I still expect to 6d to have very low banding/ read noise, but this is not only due to sensor design w/ Canon tech but has to do with the rest of the camera electronics. As for dr/iso, I'm curios to see the reviews, but I don't think it'll save the 6d from forgetfulness.
