This week Canon officially announced their first two "V" series cameras globally, the PowerShot V1 and the EOS R50 V. Both are targeted at video creators but are more than capable tools for photographers as well.

I instantly fell in love with that little fellow. It is relatively small for an APS-C f/2.8 zoom lens.
It has a very robust built. And combined with EOS cameras it's AF is really impressing, fast and reliable.

I am a hybrid photographer; I do still images as well as short family films. What is best to go back and forth between video and photo? Does WB set on video effect photo also? I typically use auto WB, but I may want to use Kelvin for video. Just wondering how to do that quickly. Any tips? Thank you

Hey folks. I picked up the R1 recently... and almost immediately started using it with my Speedlite EL-1.
Then... a week later I read the manual... (yeah... should have done that before I hooked up the EL-1 to the R1!)....
... and the manual says I should have used the AD-E1 adapter!

Damn...

I started to look intently at my R1's hot shoe... especially at the 21-pin connector inside the hot shoe. I took some close up pictures of those 21 pins and I can see that one of the pins is (maybe) shorter? Maybe it is bent / damaged? It definitely looks fishy.
On the other hand - I spent some fair amount of time trying to figure out whether my EL-1 could damage the pins... and it seems to me that this is simply impossible. The EL-1 - when mounted on the camera - doesn't even reach the 21 pins on the camera's hot shoe.

So... I am kinda worried that my brand new R1 may have some issues with the hot shoe. Hence a polite request to other R1 owners on this forum: could you please take look at your 21 pins and tell me what you see? A photo would be nice. I can also provide some photos of my R1's hot shoe for a comparison.

Hello all - I'm a long time wildlife photog and I've always planned to get the 600mm f/4 someday, but didn't think it would be for a couple more years at least. However, I'm doing a trip to Svalbard this summer and it would be $1500 to rent the lens so it's feeling like it makes more sense to just go ahead and buy it since it will happen someday, anyway.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows about any upcoming rebates or discounts.

Still selling for launch price here in Norway which is 58984 NOK (5587 USD). Would be easier to stomach a purchase if we at least could get a $300 price reduction like in the US.
Funnily the kit lens combo is an even worse deal, retailing at 75388 NOK (7141 USD) compared to 5099 USD (53828 NOK) in the US. You will save a total of 585 NOK (55 USD) if you purchase the bundle provided you want that lens.. just a lousy 3.5% reduction of the retail price of the lens.
Furthermore the US got a price reduction before we even had any availability to talk about here.

I have the R3 and R6ii, as well as an RF 100-300 F2.8. I previously had the R5.
While I really enjoy the colors and lots light performance of the R3, its 24MP have often limited cropping.
For those of you with the R3 and R5ii and a wildlife photography focus, how do you find the two compare? Is one far better in terms of autofocus/tracking? Do you notice a big low light performance difference? I do a fair amount of shooting in forest cover and dawn/dusk. Battery life?
I prefer smaller body size for travel, even when paired with heavy lenses.
I have longer lenses in the Z system so not looking to get more reach via longer Canon RF lenses.
I only shoot stills, so video is not a factor in my decision.

Next week we're going to see the Canon RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM officially announced, the fourth lens in the VCM series of L prime lenses.

We have been told by a solid source that Canon has advanced plans for 3 more VCM L prime lenses to complete the series of hybrid prime lenses.

Since I started using mirrorless cameras, I've been having long-term issues with the viewfinder glass: it gets unsightly little scratches.

What can be done to prevent this (besides only using the camera in a cleanroom)? What do you do for protection?

Currently, I have the R3s, and as with the Rs, R5s, R6s before, there are already slight scratches present. Can these be somewhat removed with a plastic polish (similar to what is used for watch glasses), or is the surface coated in a way that polishing it will just make it worse by removing the coating in the center?

Or is it easy to just remove and replace the glass? I don't want to pay several hundred euros/dollars to have the entire viewfinder replaced, only for a clean plastic.

Since the new R1 is just being unboxed, what can be done to better protect it in the future? Similar to the screen glass, a glass film or at least a protective film like before? Or does that interfere with the viewfinder? Do you have any experience with that?

There have been rumors about a Fujifilm GFX100RF for a long while now, and it looks like we'll see the camera announced this week, and everything about it has leaked out via retail channels jumping the gun.

Hello fellow rumor members,

I want to ask for some opinions on CPL for the 24-105Z lens. I’m going to travel in the next month to a very sunny seaside town. Which brand and size do you guys use?

I’ve Sigma Protective 82mm on the lens front, and am looking at Kase Revolution Magnetic or Sigma WR CPL 82mm at the moment, but worry it would be vignetted at 24mm stacking them both. That worries me, hope someone who has already stacked filters on the Z could chime in.

Greetings, new here, but have been a Canon fan for decades.
Currently own and still use:
Canon F-1n, EOS A2e, and the 5DMIV
I also have some non Canons that will not be mentioned here ;P

Looking to delve into FF mirrorless - I dusted off my a6000, which I picked up when it was released to delve into the mirrorless world. It’s a fine cropped sensor camera, but never really considered Sony any further - as the interface just felt clunky to me.

Fast forward to 2025. I’m now looking at diving fully into FF mirrorless with the R5 to replace my 5D - but also looking for a fun, light, casual camera body. I’ve narrowed it down to a (dare i say) Sony 7CR. I would really love for Canon to have something similar but I just don’t see anything.

I figured I’d post this here in the event that there may be some knowledge regarding Canon exploring a FF system like this. I looked at the RP, but it was still a little too large for pocketing, and am hesitant to use as a travel camera from reviews on poor battery life.

Photography would be the main use for me, video is bonus.

As primarily a landscape photographer, the R5 is an excellent body. Any idea if a higher resolution R5 will ever be created for landscape photographers? Or is there just not enough demand? Thanks for your thoughts.
