AF issues with 600 and 400 MK III

Please tell me what am I doing wrong.
I just upgraded from the MK II versions of these (600F4 and 400 F2.8)
Both the lenses on 1DxMKII will not AF at all when changing focusing from a near to a far point. e.g. If I am focused at 20 ft-trying to focus at 200 ft or at infinity does not work- the camera will simply not focus. Even rotating the barrel manually does not do any good.
OTOH- if I go from, say, 20-50-100-200 ft to infinity - it will focus but that too is inconsistent. sometimes no matter what I do- nothing , I repeat, nothing at any distance will be in focus.
I keep the AF-ON or the shutter half pushed. Makes no difference.
Even on manual focus- rotating the focusing barrel does not change focus promptly- it rotates on and on- reminds me of 85 mm 1.2L

Never had these issues with the old lenses.
Called Canon - could not give me a solution. Tried their recommendations- no result.
I am sure the fault lies with me. What am I doing wrong- what am I expecting wrong?

Please help. Thanks.

Canon working on another f/2 zoom lens for the RF mount [CR1]

We have been told that Canon is hard at work on another f/2 zoom for the RF mount. This would go with the already available and incredible Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM.
The focal length of this zoom lens is unknown at the time of writing this. However, the source did say this could end up being a “second holy trinity” of lenses for the RF mount. The current “holy trinity” is generally accepted to be the RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS and RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.
More to come…

Patent: Canon to have three image stabilization systems working together

Canon continues to work on sensor-based image stabilization, which is a feature we expect to see in the next major EOS R camera body release. Canon has been working on getting the in-body stabilization to work with its in-lens stabilization technology.
This USPTO patent takes things one step further, as Canon appears to be working to get three stabilization systems working together.
These three systems would be:

In-body or image sensor stabilization
In-lens image stabilization
Electronic image stabilization

Canon News breaks down what this patent likely means:
So what’s the goal of all this? The gist is they want to improve image stabilization when the various parts of the camera system are working together to stabilize video recording. What Canon is stating (I believe) is that as the shutter speed increases, the amount of shake that...

A Canon RF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM is on the way [CR2]

We’ve previously reported that Canon will be introducing an RF 500mm f/4L IS USM as their first super telephoto lens for the RF mount.
Now we’re hearing that an RF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM will also be launching sometime in 2020, and the source has claimed that this lens will come with a “new and unique” feature for super telephoto lenses, unfortunately, no details about this were given.
I think we’re going to see a lot more professional lens announcements in 2020 for the RF mount.
The source did clarify that new versions of the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II and EF 500mm f/4L IS II aren’t in the plans for Canon.

RF lens hoods, where's the felt?

I finally pulled the trigger on the RF 50mm 1.2. Liking the lens, but it's too bad Canon decided to ditch the black felt that used to line their factory lens hoods. Always made them feel just a little classier than the alternatives. ;)

Oh well, I'm sure the actual difference a felt lined surface made to the ridged black plastic that everyone else (and now Canon) seems to be using is just about zero. And that felt always attracted debris.

Canon’s EOS-1D X Mark II equivalent mirrorless is coming sooner than originally thought [CR1]

We have been told that Canon has “accelerated” development of the “pro” level EOS R camera, and we’re not talking about the high-resolution model that we expect to see in late 2019 or early 2020.
This new camera will be along the lines of a mirrorless version of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II (or III).
The source also mentioned that it is possible this camera could be announced alongside the EOS-1D X Mark III in the first or second quarter of 2020. Though the date of the announcement is a long way from being decided.
Announcing these two cameras together would be a unique move for Canon, and while I think it’s possible, I suspect we’ll see a development announcement for the EOS-1R X (as I feel like calling it) well before the actual camera ships.
An EOS R professional body with some new...

All quiet on the western front!!

It really does seem to be very quiet here atm doesn't it? A possible/probable all in o e replacement for the 80d and 7d2 and that is it? No real hints on the next r body timing. No further mentions of the upcoming rf lenses(especially the 24-240 non L). I am starting to wonder if canon have gone into secret mode in preparation for a big few months. They do seem good at not letting info get out untill the last minute.

EOS R buying decision

Good morning!
The EOS R is getting more and more interesting for me. As an addition to the 5D MK4.
I own just EF lenses. I do mostly birding and landscape.
Can you tell me, how fast the autofocus of the EOS R is, compared to the MK4, when mounted on the 600mm MK2 or the 100-400mm MKII? I read a lot where reviewers say, the autofocus speed is increased on EOS RF lenses, but on EF lenses?

The next interesting feature are the adapters. Is the ND version adapter optically in an high league? I had an expensive variable ND filter, who produced inverse-vigentted-patterns, where the edges were lighter than the center. Can I use the filter of the 600mm MKII in the adapter, when I use another lens?

Patent: Switchable 1.4x & 2.0x teleconverter

A patent showing a new style of teleconverter from Canon has appeared at the Japanese Patent Office this week and translated by Canon News.
Canon is showing off a teleconverter that can switch between 1.4x and 2.0x, which would be a great way to increase the usability, flexibility and efficiency of using teleconverters.
If you’re on location with both Canon teleconverters, it adds to the risk of dust getting inside the camera body. If you’re switching between 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, you may also miss the shot.
Adding teleconverters to big lenses increases the size, weight and bulk of lenses as well, so simply putting built-in teleconverters into every super telephoto lens probably isn’t the answer either. Canon has been working very hard to reduce the...
