We’re told that Canon will definitely release an RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS in 2019. We don’t think that is a big secret as Canon has mentioned there are a few f/2.8 zoom lenses coming next year. We also suspect a wide angle f/2.8L zoom is coming as well as an RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.
The same source says Canon will likely release an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS sometime in 2019, possibly as early as May 2019.
There were no details given as to when we could expect an RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS, but suspect it’ll be in the 2nd half of next year.

This past week we saw an updated list of new and unreleased Canon gear that has appeared for certifications with various agencies around the globe. As always, the gear in question uses code names and not the regular naming conventions Canon uses. We spoke with some people over the weekend and think we know what most of the new gear is going to be.
Canon DSLRs
The DSLRs are the hardest to figure out at the moment, as there is going to be some changes in how the lineup looks in 2019. While we hope to see a Canon EOS 7D Mark III, we haven’t heard anything that we’d consider reliable. If we go by the certification list below, there is a 32mp DSLR coming that we think is the Canon EOS 80D replacement and not the Canon EOS 7D Mark III. We think that a 32mp sensor would be too much for the speedy APS-C line of cameras. We could be wrong, but the EOS 7D was 18mp and the EOS 7D Mark II...
Imaging resource had a chance to sit down with Canon engineers to discuss the development of the brand new Canon EOS system.
We cherry-picked a couple of our favourite questions and answers from the interview.
Does AF coverage change with EF-mount lenses?
Since EF-mount lenses used via the adapter are so much further from the sensor surface, it seems likely that they wouldn’t be able to support as large an AF area as native RF-mount ones. I asked, and it turns out this is true. It will vary some based on the specific lens design, but some EF-mount lenses won’t have quite as wide AF coverage as the native ones. Native RF-mount coverage is 100% vertically and 88% horizontally, but some EF-mount lenses will only have 80% horizontal coverage (again, depending on the specific lens design).
Why so many electrical contacts? (In regards to the RF mount)
The engineers didn’t go...
