Got me a ride in one of these...

Any one had a ride in unusual transport?

On a recent holiday we had a rise in a Grumman Goose (Pacific Coastal Airlines, BC). We took off from tarmac and landed on a fjord - quite a different experience to other seaplanes we have been on. As you will see, the wing pontoon lifts up to enable it to get to the dock.

Buying my first MACRO lens

Hey everyone. So I'm planning on buying my first MACRO lens for my canon 600D/T3i.
Which one should I get?
Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 AF APO EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Fixed Lens
Tamron AFF017C700 SP 90mm F/2.8 Di VC USD 1:1 Macro Lens

I've only tried the Canon 100mm f/2.8L and fell in love with it. Budget won't be a problem. Then again I'm not gonna change my camera any time soon. I'd like to photograph insects and flowers mostly.

Canon C100II and useless power adapter

I recently bought Canon C100II camera to replace my old Canon XF100 workhorse. Everything is working great, except I can't use a power adapter CA-941 that came with the camera. Cable in the adapter is not long enough!

The power adapter has only 100cm (40') long cable. I can't use it when I’m filming with a tripod. It's not long enough to reach from a ground to the camera. And hanging it by the power plug would definitely damage the camera on the long run. In example Canon XF100 has power adapter CA-930 with 170cm (65') long cable that I can use with a tripod.
Any suggestions how to fix this problem?

SanDisk Launches World's First 1TB SD Card

HTML:
<strong>PHOTOKINA, COLOGNE, GERMANY, Sept. 20, 2016</strong> – Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: WDC), a global storage technology and solutions leader, today unveiled its SanDisk® 1TB terabyte (TB) SDXC™ card prototype at the world’s leading trade fair for photo and video professionals. With increasing demand for high resolution content, such as 4K and 8K, the company continues to push the boundaries of technology with solutions that support the exponential growth of data-intensive production demands.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>“Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us,” said Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product management, Content Solutions Business Unit, Western Digital. “Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD™ card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.”</p>
<p>Since the introduction of the record-breaking <a href="https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-cards/sd-cards/extremepro-sd-uhs-i">512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO® SDXC UHS-I Memory Card</a> at Photokina 2014, Western Digital has proven it can nearly double the capacity in the same SD card form factor using proprietary technology. Higher capacity cards expand the possibilities for professional videographers and photographers, giving them even greater ability to create more of the highest quality content, without the interruption of changing cards.</p>
<p>“Just a few short years ago the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic – it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality. With the growing demand for applications like VR, we can certainly use 1TB when we’re out shooting continuous high-quality video. High-capacity cards allow us to capture more without interruption, streamlining our workflow, and eliminating the worry that we may miss a moment because we have to stop to swap out cards,” said <a href="https://www.sandisk.com/home/extreme-team/sam-nicholson">Sam Nicholson</a>, CEO of Stargate Studios and member of the American Society of Cinematographers.</p>
<p>Western Digital will be demonstrating the SanDisk 1TB SDXC card prototype and showcasing its newest offerings at Photokina, Hall 02.1 Stand A014.</p>

<p>Fujifilm claims the camera and a standard prime will come in at under $10,000 USD.</p>

Seawater Damage

Hi all,
I had a little accident when I was hit by a wave and my camera 5D3 went for a temporary swim. I dried it off quickly and took the battery out. I left it dry with desiccant for a few days. I put a battery in and I got Error 70 without turning the on switch. At the moment it's not switching on at all. No response at all.
Any experienced people here? What are the odds it's dead dead.
Saltwater I know is not good for electronics.
The only upside is I got a very good photo just before I got hit.
I wasn't over impressed with the 5DIV but maybe now is the excuse.
(Divide the price by 10 and tell my good wife how much it's costs :D)

Panasonic GH5, LX10 and G85

Panasonic has just announced three very impressive sounding cameras and one of them shoots 6k!

Panasonic GH5, LX10 and G85.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/photography/panasonic-post-focus-photkina-2016/

Must say that LX10 looks very nice and is supposed to fit in most jean pockets, similar to the RX100 Mark IV.

The flagship model (GH5), set to arrive in mid-2017, ups the video capture capability to 6K at 30fps and brings 10-bit, 60fps shooting at 4K.

Interesting times.

Panasonic Developing GH5 With 4K 60p/50p Video Recording

HTML:
<em>Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera [DSLM] LUMIX GH5 Featuring ‘6K PHOTO</em></p>
<p><strong>Cologne, Germany (September 19, 2016)</strong> – Panasonic today announced that it is in development of a new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) Camera LUMIX GH5 that is capable of recording smooth, high-precision 4K 60p/50p and faithful 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video for the first time in the world. It also features ‘6K PHOTO’<span style="font-size: 13.3333px;"> </span>which extracts approx 18-megapixel still images from ultra-high-quality video with approx. 9 times the pixel count of Full-HD. The new LUMIX GH5 is scheduled for commercialization and introduction to the global market in early 2017.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>Panasonic has been committed to the development of innovative digital cameras under the theme “Create a New Photo Culture in the Digital Era.” The world’s first Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera LUMIX DMC-G1 was introduced in 2008*4 and the subsequent DMC-GH1 achieved the world’s first Full HD video recording in 2009.</p>
<p>In 2014, Panasonic introduced the DMC-GH4, which realized 4K 30p/25p video recording for the first time in the industry*6. At the same time, Panasonic proposed a new and unique method of photography called ‘4K PHOTO’ which allows users to capture fleeting photographic moments that even the eyes cannot catch, by using super-fast 4K resolution video frames at 30 fps that can be saved as high-quality photos. As a result, the DMC-GH4 is highly acclaimed for its exceptional hybrid performance in both photography and videography by a wide range of professional users worldwide – not only photographers but also cinematographers in the film production field, as well as emerging photo/video-hybrid creators.</p>
<p>By advancing Panasonic technologies, such as digital signal processing and heat dissipation, and packing them into the compact, lightweight body of a Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera, the LUMIX GH5 enables 4K 60p/50p and 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video recording, which has never before been achieved *1. With this unprecedented video recording performance, Panasonic aims to further capitalize on the strength that it has achieved in the film production industry.</p>
<p>In the LUMIX GH5, the conventional ‘4K PHOTO’ function is dramatically advanced to form ‘6K PHOTO’ which lets the user cut a still image out of ultra-high-quality approx.18-megapixel video with approx. 9 times the pixel count than Full-HD. Taking advantage of its high-speed, long-time burst shooting capability, spur-of-the-moment shots can be saved in beautiful photos with higher resolution that complies with larger-sized printing by substantially increasing the resolution from approx.8-megapixel (4K PHOTO) to approx.18-megapixel (6K PHOTO). Furthermore, approx.8-megapixel 4K Photo images can be captured at a super-fast 60 fps.</p>

5D Mark III AF Expectations (Or any other camera)

I wrestled and wrestled. So now I'm going to ask the question I should have asked a year or two ago.

If I have an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II, or a 400mm f/5.6L (I used to have the 400mm) and I am standing 20-30 yards from the subject should I expect crispness on details at 100% crop on stationary subjects like walls or mailboxes or people? Or should a little fuzziness be expected when zooming in that far in post?

I've thrown away a lot of photos in the past that looked good straight out of the camera focus wise, but looked a little fuzzy in Lightroom or Photoshop when I magnify to 100% even after FoCal AFMA.

I am an obsessive compulsive (diagnosed, among other things) and I am wondering if I am going overboard looking at sharpness at that level.

Obviously, when I see a bird photo taken with a 600mm lens and every feather and detail is perfect I should probably realize the photo was taken in at least some decent proximity to the subject rather than towards the limits of the focal length. The bird must be filling a significant portion of the frame.

Am I correct? Should I not expect crispness when the subject takes up only 2 or 3% of the frame?

I am asking this in all seriousness because it really does bother me.

For instance, at what distance from the subject (human) at 200mm should I expect to see crisp details in the iris of the eye. maybe it should better be put: How much of the frame should be filled to expect sharp details in the eyes?

I shot a soccer game my niece played in. As far as I am concerned every photo was a throw away because zooming to 100% in post wasn't crisp. Otherwise, everything looks good.

My conclusion is that 200mm is probably far too short a focal length for a soccer game or even small birds from 50 feet. The field is huge. A 600mm or 800mm lens is obviously better suited... but would the details be crisp at 100%? Maybe crisper because more of the frame would be filled and the crop smaller?

One might say I have answered my own question, but I seriously need somebody else to tell me whether I am or am not expecting too much of myself and my equipment. I honestly do not trust myself to do so.

Most of the time in photos people don't post how far they were from the subject to get such spectacular results.

Sorry if I have rolled some eyes. I am as serious as can be with this question.

Thank you,
Charles

5DIV: Higher Resolution and Haze

With the 5DIV's higher resolution, will haze from mist, salt-spray, light fog, dust, or whatever might be dispersed in the outdoor air be harder or easier to deal with than on the 5DIII?

In our area we run into one or more of the above haze conditions many days of the year. After reading the Digital Pictures "review" (overview) of the new 5DIV, and the discussion of higher res effects on shutter speeds and f/stop (diffraction), I wondered about the haze.

Perhaps 5Ds/r owners have insights?

Thanks.
