5DIV: Very high Battery consumption when using GPS

I use the 5DIV wth two original Canon E6N batteries, but when I activate the GPS, both battieres are empty after 2-3 hours (even if I do not take an photo in this time). When shooting with activated GPS (Gps signal is always just blinking in the top monitor), after 1 hour the batteries are empty.

In the GPS menu, the GPS-Information menu can not be displayed. Changing the GPS update interval does not influence battery draining. Also no influence when changing the Modus. Activated GPS means empty batteries in 2-3h

Can you help me please? Canon support did not know how to deal with this, as the main serviceman who is able to handle the 5DIV is on holiday....

Appreciated Simple Request from 5DIV Owners

Could any 5D4 please kindly post frame grabes
from the camera's video mode?

Watching comppressed YT is not acceptable for me.

The frame grabs should be as following:

-A wide lens (11 to 35mm) at infinity or near
infinity from your window. Not looking for a
pretty image here! Follow the following list please to give us the best
quality:

-Set camera to 1080p 24p ALL-I

-Highlight tone priority OFF

-Shadow optimizer OFF

-Picture style:

Neutral,

Sharpness -4 Contrast -4 Saturation(yes) -4 Color tone at middle

-exposed to the highlights, as in no clipped
highlights. Up your shutter as wanted to get to
the point juuuuust after clipping is gone and
shoot a second.

Export as JPEG frame and upload Here/Imgur/flickr (imgur preferred)

(don't worry about JPEG being compressed, video
is WAY more compressed so it's actualy an
upscale in format quality:D)

These settings just insure best quality.

It sounds like a lot to ask but it's really just shoot a second off your window and upload a frame.

If you have the time and are kind enough. Do at
the same time 1080p 60p, 720p 120p, 4K 24p.

That would be HUGELY helping for me on
deciding.

to buy the camera. Thanks, Josh,

Sharing experience of DIY repair (5D classic)

I have the opportunity to pick up an original Canon 5D (mark 1 or classic) recently. The price was so so low and the camera was cosmetically very nice and it was working well. It even came with a Canon battery grip and 2 original batteries (seem holding charge quite okay) and the box and accessories. Everything was for only Cad 350. (equivalent US$270)

The camera has one problem- this old camera has no live view feature. The only way to view the target of the shooting is to look through the eyepiece. My eye sight is deteriorating badly due to age. When I checked before I bought, I did not realize that the eyepiece was very dirty inside with smudge/fungus/dust etc. I could see the view through it and it was slightly blurry. I thought it was my bad eye or the diopter needed adjusting.

When I took it out the day after, I discovered the thing and I used a flashlight to look into the eyepiece and found the disgusting smudge and it was disturbing because I have to face it every time I use it in the future. I then decided to proceed with my DIY repair attempt.

I have before opened up the same model camera to fix the weird polarized display of the rear LCD. So, I was not too worried about opening a DSLR. I found a 5D repair manual online and I followed the steps to disassemble the camera to the point that I can reach the eyepiece. Things went quite well. I was able to take out the eyepiece after
removing the back, side, front and top panels. Nothing stressful at all in the whole opening up procedure. I only have to be careful when removing the 2 flex cables to detach the rear panel from the PCB. (actually it's easy, just don't break the clips of the connectors)

I used a cotton swap and alcohol to clean the eyepiece and the glass inside but it didn't work. I then mixed some ammonia and hydrogen peroxide (mixture solution for removing fungus in vintage lenses) and the smudge/fungus/dirt or whatever was gone after some rubbing. I allowed it to dry and then put everything back. The old camera was back to life with a crystal clear view through the eye piece.

A few pictures are taken during repair for sharing. If you have an old camera in your basement and have similar problem. Canon repair will not repair some older models and you don't want to spend a few hundred to recover it's life. Why not take it out and have fun DIY repair.

Thanks for viewing. Please share your DIY repair projects or experience.

Recreating Top Gun Canopy to Canopy Photo

If you haven't seen this, a photographer enlisted the Patriots Jet Team to try to recreate the Top Gun Canopy to Canopy photo. Definitely worth checking out.

https://vimeo.com/182458876

I don't think they were 100% accurate as Maverick states that they were inverted above the MiG while pulling a 4g negative dive. In this video it doesn't seem like they were diving at all, but the spirit of Top Gun was still there.

RX1R II price *increase*? All 42 MP Sony sensored cameras are on backorder?

Fascinating...

http://photorumors.com/2016/09/15/the-sony-rx1r-ii-camera-now-costs-600-more-all-42mp-sony-cameras-are-out-of-stock/

Out of stock notices could mean good (sales are up) and bad (the earthquake, issue with components, supply chain problem) things, but hiking prices so dramatically implies the product is in demand or there was a very big currency course correction. Curious to see how they spin this.

- A

5DsR view finder blurry without batteries ?!?

Just noticed something weird. On my 5DsR, the viewfinder goes blurry (looks like it focuses to <1 inch, so way beyond diopter adjustments) when I take out the batteries from the grip. I took out batteries from the gripped 5D2, and no change there. It happens even with MF lenses (!), both Zeiss (100 MP) as well as Canon (TSE-17). I have a matt focusing screen. Can someone explain what is happening?

The view finder is also getting darker, and I assume the default f-stop setting is kicking in. That's OK. But the blurry image is odd on an optical viewfinder with a MF lens.

Is this happening on other 5Ds/R bodies? 5D3? 5D4? Is there something wrong with my body?

Canon 5dmk4 pricing

OK so after a long wait and all the speculation a camera I have been waiting to get my hands on arrives. Quite ready to splash the cash as I make my living from it and then comes the price ... $3499 ok i think so around £2700 gbp a bit higher than the previous model and its not a massive evolution but a couple of bits worth a little more wifi etc. But no £3499 .... what on earth ? Thats really £1000 over where it should be at and I really see no worth in that purchase price at all. Why is this - another Brexcuse ? other ideas ? is it going to plummet down £500 in the next few months , its a strange departure from previous versions.

My second option was to wait for the 5d3 price to drop and get another one of those to replace my older backup but thats also stayed the same price ?

Seems a total con.

Some help needed - 1dx mkII or 5dMkIV

Hello

I am going to buy a new camera and my question is...wich one to buy! It is a really good doubt to have between these 2 amaizng bodys, but i really have it!

So the thing is...i am a wildlife photographer, and i also make nature documentaries in video although the main jobs are in photography. At this moment i have a 5d markIII and a 7d markII. For photography the 5d markIII i love it, but 7dmkII never liked, i didn´t fit with the camera (not going to explain, that´s another subject of discussion). But for video, 5dmkIII not good, never liked the 1080HD look and 7D is better in focusing andd overall image.

So, i am going to have big jobs on hand for 2017, either in photography and video, and it´s imperative to improve my video image quality.

Here are my doubts:

- Everybody nows that 1dxmkII is a beast, and of course it is also my first choice. But......Choosing 1dxmkII (cons):

- i will loose all the batteries i have LPE6 (5 at total) and need to replace for at least one of the expensive 1Dx bateries...and even so i will have less "power" storage
- I will have to replace all my SD cards (4 32GB at total) and need to buy at least 2 Cfast cards. However still can use the CF cards i have.

So in 1dx mkII choice i will have more expensive problems to deal, not only the more expensive body...

The pros in getting that body are in a good number.

Then, the 5dMKIV got out and mixed my thoughts.....

- If i choose 1dX mkII, in photo matters, all my problems are solved! :)
- If i choose 5d4, i will continue with the problems of buffer limitation and limited FPS witch is not really good.

For video is where i need the big help:

- The differences between 5d4 and 1dx2 are no enormous, in fact, seems to me that are pretty the same in overall image quality...but there are some differences:

- crop factor in 4k is not the same, is bigger in 5d4
- 4k60fps wich i reaaally want for nature docs....
- 1080HD for 120FPS wich is reaallyy good for nature docs (and other videos)

in 5d4 i only get:

- 4k 30fps
-720HD 120FPS

But i do get:
- HDR video feature.

SO.....the big question is....Does it really justify the difference of price regarding to video choices, buying the 1dx2? I know in some way i realy answered to that by telling that i want 60fps 4k and 1080HD 120fps.....But could you give me some of your thoughts regarding to this cameras? Especially if you do have experience with one of them (5d4 would be more dificult, but she´s out there!!! :D )

Thanks in advance

Canon Introduces the EOS M5 Digital Camera and its First EF-M High Power Zoom Lens

HTML:
<em>EOS M5 Camera Provides The Fastest Autofocus (AF) speed of EOS M-Series and a built-in Electronic Viewfinder</em></p>
<p><strong>MELVILLE, N.Y., September 15, 2016</strong> – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the latest additions to its EOS M series system – the new Canon EOS M5 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera and compact EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. The EOS M5 camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor, DIGIC 7 Image Processor and the fastest AF speed in the EOS M-seriesi, enabling photographers to capture clear, sharp, high-resolution images and Full HD videos. It is also the first in the EOS camera line to include the low energy Bluetooth® Smartii feature that can maintain a constant connectioniii with your compatible smartphone or tablet when you use the Canon camera connect application and both applications are active. The versatile EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is compatible with all Canon EOS M series digital cameras, and is a great option for photographers looking to capture scenic landscapes while traveling to close-up shots from afar.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>“The new capabilities found in the Canon EOS M5 Camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens set a new standard for our EOS M series of cameras and lenses, showing that Canon is constantly incorporating performance enhancements desired by our customers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “When paired together, the new EOS M5 camera and EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens provide image-makers of all levels with powerful tools that enable them to capture a variety of remarkable images and videos.”</p>
<p>In addition, advanced photographers will appreciate the improved operability of the EOS M5 camera. It has a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) and Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF for capturing stills and shooting video with smooth and precise autofocus. This allows for Touch and Drag AF so users can easily switch the subject of their focus by dragging the AF frame directly on the LCD panel, even while looking through the camera’s EVF. Focus peaking allows users to highlight the area of the image that is in focus from within the EVF or LCD monitor. In addition to its touchscreen operability, the EOS M5 camera also has easily accessible dials that allow you to quickly adjust your settings on-the-go.</p>
<p><b>Key Features of the Canon EOS M5 Camera Include:</b></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, ISO 100–25600.</li>
<li>Fast and smooth Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps you capture stills and shoot video with quick and precise autofocus.</li>
<li>High-speed continuous shooting at up to 7.0 fps (up to 9.0 fps with AF Lock) and new DIGIC 7 Image Processor with improved AF tracking performance.</li>
<li>Full HD 60p helps capture fast-moving subjects and brilliant results in MP4 format.</li>
<li>Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilization<a name="_Ref461616136"></a>ivwhen shooting movies plus increased image stabilization with both lens optical IS and in-camera digital IS when shooting with an IS lens.</li>
<li>Built-in high-resolution EVF (approx. 2,360,000 dots)<b> </b>with new Touch and Drag AF lets you manually move the AF frame displayed for more precise focusing in different shooting situations.</li>
<li>Intuitive touch screen 3.2 tilt-type (85° up/180° down) LCD monitor<b> </b>(approx. 1,620,000 dots) enables flexible positioning and clear viewing.</li>
<li>Easily customize functions while shooting using the Main Dial, Quick Control Dial, Dial Function Button and Exposure Compensation Dial.</li>
<li>Built-in Wi-Fi®v and NFCvi allows for easy sharing and transferring of images and videos.</li>
<li>Equipped with Bluetooth®iii Smart for smooth pairing with a compatible smartphone by powering on both devices for easy photo sharing and remote control possibilities.</li>
<li>Shorter camera startup timevii and interval time between each image capture for a more efficient shooting experience.</li>
<li>Compatible with EF-M lenses as well as the full line of EF<a name="_Ref461616065"></a>viii and EF-Sviii lenses and Speedlites for expanded creativity.</li>
</ul>
<p>The Canon EOS M5 also features Combination IS with in-camera 5-axis image stabilization, while capturing video, a first in the Canon EOS series. With a compatible lens attachediv, Combination IS leverages optical IS and in-camera digital IS to help create tremendously smooth videos. The DIGIC 7 Image Processor makes the 5-axis IS possible even with lenses that do not contain IS, because the in-camera image stabilization functions independently to help reduce camera shake when shooting videos.</p>
<p>Additionally, the EOS M5 camera shoots impressive time-lapse videos. The EOS M5 camera also allows for easy panning by setting the optimal shutter speed after analyzing the camera’s panning speed and how fast the subject is moving.</p>

fungus in the IS component of my 70-200 lens

I dropped off my 70-200 2.8 mark 1 for servicing at Canon NJ and have been told there is fungus in the IS component which will need to be replaced at a cost of $465 ( with cps discount )

They say it's minimally affecting the elements but could get worse ( as fungus tends to do )

has anyone ever heard of this happening?

would you say it's worth repairing or should i use the money to buy a new one?

anythng else i'm not asking that i should be?

btw..i shoot professionally. Up until now..i have found this to be one of my sharpest lens, keeping me from wanting to upgrade to a mark II

Thanks...Arnie
