Lack of 5D4 Info

With this camera supposedly being announced next month, and also supposedly being in the hands of dozens of testers in the field - there is a surprisingly low amount of leakage and information. What is going on? I don't think I've seen such a tight lipped release for such a highly anticipated camera before.

We only have regurgitation of some of the earliest rumors and specs, all of which could plausibly be logical predictions. One would think that the sensor MP count would be determined.

Which adapter for C/Y lenses on 5DsR? using Zeiss C/Y 16 mm F-Distagon

i have a Zeiss F-Distagon 16 mm with a Haoda CTX-EOS adapter that works well with my 5D2. However, on my 5DsR, the camera gives me a lens communication error (error 20), but only if I fully engage the lens with adapter (clicking sound when mounting the lens). When I unmount the lens by just a bit away from the click stop, the camera takes pictures with that lens; took a while to figure that one out. The error even occurs in Manual mode.

Is there a C/Y to EOS adapter that works well on 5DsR?

UPDATE:

it is a compound problem. At infinity focus the rear lens baffle interferes with the mirror on the 5DsR. Solution. Mount lens set to close focus, engage live view, re-set focus to infinity (or wherever needed), shoot in live view. When turning live view/camera off, first put lens to close focus again.

Safari lens dilemma

Hello everyone,

I am going to South Africa this summer for a safari.

This is what I plan to take from what I already own:

7DII + 100-400II
70D + 15-85
Fuji X100S
10-18

I am debating whether or not to add a 70-200 2.8 IS II to my bag. I am thinking about it because of the difference in aperture with my 100-400 which could be useful for early mornings and late evenings.

If decide on it, I will keep the 100-400 on my 7d, and put the 70-200 on my 70D. I will borrow a T5i from a family member for the wider lenses.

Do you think this is overkill or will I benefit significantly from the faster lens during the drives?

Thanks :)

A.

DxO comparison: Sony 24-70/2.8GM vs. Canon 24-70/2.8LII

All hail the mighty G Master! All hail the mighty G Master!

http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Sony/Sony-FE-24-70mm-F28-GM-WEB

Oh wait ... on the 36mp A7R the G Master is almost as sharp as the Canon 24-70/2.8 on a 22mp 5DIII? Hmmm. And with the Canon lens on a 50mp 5DSR, it's not even close: 17 P-Mpix for sharpness vs. 32 P-Mpix for sharpness.

And the Canon zoom is cheaper, and smaller, and 80 grams lighter, and is not focus by wire.

Question re: 17-40L Flare

Hello CanonRumors folks,

I recently picked up a 17-40L from the Canon Refurbished store. So far I'm enjoying it, though I have noticed that it seems to flare more than I expected, particularly red and green blotches/reflections. Admittedly, this has generally been in situations where the sun is directly in the scene, but it is still more than I expected and more than I had seen with other lenses I have had when trying to get similar shots.

So, I was curious to hear from current and former owners of the 17-40L if this kind of flare is par for the course or if there might be reason for me to contact the Canon refurb store for an exchange. I've attached a photo as an example (the flare in question being in the right side of the image).

Thanks for any advice!

Dirt inside viewfinder prism box.

Hey everyone, so all 3 of my cameras ( 2 1dx and 5ds) have managed to get dirt inside the viewfinder box, and I i've brought it to CPS but was told they would need to take apart the entire camera and was wondering if it's common to get this problem? I owned two 5d mark 3's before this and never had this problem, and I used to switch lenses ALOT back then compared to now where I barely take off my 24mm 1.4 ii prime off the 5ds etc..

I know the 1DX is supposed to have problems with sensor dirt but I never heard of dirt/dust problems inside the viewfinder.

Does anyone else get dirt/dust in their camera viewfinders?

Should I buy a used 1DX?

Currently, I have the 5Ds and 7DII. After I got the 5Ds, the reason for having an APS-C camera for reach is gone. All the lenses I have are for full frame, and I really do prefer using my lenses at their intended effective focal lenght. Although I am very happy with my 7DII, and I dont have an issue with focusing or sharpness, I am considering changing my 7DII for a second FF body.

I don´t shoot professionally, and I don´t need two bodies, but I often prefer carrying to bodies, rather than changing lenses. I would usually have a wide or standard lens on one body, and a tele lens on the other when hiking, or a 35+85 combo on social events. I dont shoot video.

The 5Ds will probably be my go to camera.

A 5DIII would be an obvious choice as a back up body, and used prices are getting reasonable these days. My biggest issue with the 5DIII, is that it will be too similar to my 5Ds. It wouldn't really have many features I need over the 5Ds, and therefore I don´t think it would make me that excited.

The 1DX has features that I think will supplement the 5Ds very well - speed, low light, weather sealing and responsiveness. One thing I love about my 7DII is it´s responsiveness, and I expect the 1DX to be more responsive. The cons about the 1DX are the size and weight. The 1DX wouldn´t fit very well in my favorite backpack, the Mindshift rotation 180 Panorama.

Waiting for the 5DIV has been my main plan, but seeing the reasonable prices for used 1DX cameras has made me reconsider. I could always buy the 1DX now, and sell it if the 5DIV turns out to be the camera of my dreams.

What would you choose, and why - a used 1DX or a 5DIV? Thank you!

DXO claim 1DX2 new class leader

http://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-1D-X-Mark-II-sensor-review-New-class-leader

"The Canon performs exceptionally well. Not only does it have a wider useful dynamic range at base and low ISOs than the Nikon, it’s not far behind the Sony, and that small difference won’t be noticed in use. The Canon sensor continues to offer a wide dynamic range at every ISO setting, improving on the Sony from ISO800 onwards, and falling only slightly behind the Nikon’s strong performance from ISO6400 onwards. Indeed, the difference at most is around +0.6EV. Canon cameras are known for high ISO noise performance, and the Mark II surpasses both the Nikon and Sony by nearly +0.5EV.
Conclusion

This is a well-deserved result for Canon, and this versatile sensor should prove attractive to a wide range of photographers, including those that work in multiple disciplines. The wide dynamic range at low ISOs should appeal to all photographers, but especially those using it for landscapes, and the low noise at high ISOs will also appeal to action and sports photographers. Although the new model is aimed primarily at that market, the increase in pixel count over its predecessor now matches that of the earlier EOS-1Ds Mk III, a model that’s still highly regarded for editorial and commercial work. It is not too much of a stretch to view the new EOS-1D X Mk II as the natural successor to that camera, and its wide range of capabilities, including DCI 4K video, make it look highly tempting. Sure, it would have been great to see a higher pixel count, but overall, the sensor performance offers photographers the versatility to tackle a wide range of assignments with just one camera.

1DX2 battery issues

A word of warning to anyone who buys a 1DX2. You can't use a third party battery with one. My Hahnel worked perfectly with the 1D4, gave a communication error message with the 1DX but worked other than giving a charge status level but it just won't even switch on the 1DX2.
I have tried another third party battery belonging to a friend and that turns on the camera and warns the battery is counterfeit. Proceeding further could cause serious problems. I did and it didn't, well other than turning the camera off.
It will of course use the previous Canon batteries that fit

Does the Hoya Pro ND 1000 really have a sharpness issue ?

A 10 stop group test by Bryan at The Digital Picture revealed that the Hoya ND Pro 1000 has a sharpness/ghosting issue, when the viewfinder is left uncovered. Have any of you used this filter with the viewfinder covered/block, was the sharpness/ghosting issue, still apparent ?
