Canon Canada Price Increases Confirmed

HTML:
We <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/the-canada-gravy-train-on-lenses-about-to-end/">posted a few weeks ago</a> that Canon Canada would be increasing prices in Canada in the next little while, we now have confirmation of the increase.</p>
<p>It looks like the price adjustment will happen officially on April 1, 2016. There’s no mention of how much of an increase we’ll see, we were told that some items could see as much as a 20% increase.</p>
<p>We suspect new items like the EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS 80D will already be price adjusted, and that older items will see the largest price increases.</p>
<p>This is a big deal to some American buyers, as some big ticket items have been a lot cheaper to purchase from Canada than within the MAP environment in the United States. Big white lenses have likely been the most popular items Americans have been purchasing from Canadian retailers, which don’t have to follow MAP for lenses.</p>

Production of the EOS 5D Mark III Finished? [CR2]

HTML:
We’re told that some retailers are seeing “ETL” (End of the line) warnings on ordering systems in various parts of the world. In a few places, the estimated arrival time of new Canon EOS 5D Mark III retailer orders has gone from 2 to 5 days and at least one retailer has seen “unknown” for arrival time. Stock levels for the camera have been fine for years, so this change is noticeable.</p>
<p>These sorts of things generally start happening a couple of months ahead of a replacement product announcement, as one of the same sources has said this happened recently with the EOS-1D X, as they started seeing stock availability changes in December.</p>
<p>The time frame in this case puts an announcement coming after NAB 2016 which runs from April 16 – April 21.</p>

Canon 11-24mm or not?

I've heard lot of good about the 11-24mm lens, but it's bit pricey, especially since I don't shoot too often at that range. And I already have Rokinon 14/2.8 and Canon 15mm fish-eye.

If I sold those two and got the 11-24mm, would I miss anything? I don't really like the FE effect itself. Is the 11mm much wider that 15FE? (can't find actual comparison on those two, and for fact I know the 15FE is much wider than my Rokinon 14mm)

Any reasons why I should switch? Any reasons why I shouldn't?

Anything regarding Profoto B1/B2

Hi guys!

Just today tried my B1 with ND filter instead of HSS, as I wanted more power. But, with a ND8 at syncspeed, I hit full power in the sun anyway. I haven't tested the output with stopping down(or ND) vs hss, but to me it seems to be little to no difference. And that's quite the opposite of what I suspected and what I have read about it and hss in general..

Anyone else have experiences regarding this?

One from todays outing, iso 50, f1.4+ND8, 1/250s. Shot in TTL as a first shot, but ended up being the one I liked, so didn't notice power.

Adorama "open box" deals, anyone had issues in past with this?

Reason I ask is I was looking at the 6D as a second body with the 24-105mm, and I wonder if anyone has bought 'open box' from Adorama recently and had equipment been used when it's not supposed to be, damaged, scratched
etc. As I read it from them, the open box is supposed to be equipment that is basically new, worn packaging maybe, or been shown in store, not ever sold and returned.....or am I getting this wrong? Any inside help would be helpful, thanks.

Russkiy ob'yektiv kamery...who knows Jupiter3 ?

Hello,

A friend of mine is in love with all kinds of exotic lenses from faraway countries and from yesteryear.
He was very proud presenting me a picture he had taken with his Sony A6000 using an off-center Jupiter 50mm lens. While it is true that the girl was (still is) pretty, I really had a hard time to understand why he would knowingly spoil his pictures right from the start, foobar-style.

If you want to spoil your picture, you can very well do it using various post-processing plugs and apps while still having the usable original in case you might need it later on.

On eBay there are numerous sellers from Belarussiya, Ukraine and Russian federation who have fixed adapters on these lenses. Of course you do not get autofocus or full aperture AE but you get something...for like 150 dollars.
I found from Germany Voigtländer Color Skopar and Zeiss Tessar from the fifties equipped with Sony E mounts.
Digging a bit deeper, there were people having converted the Canon FD 55 f/1.2 to EF –to be used with the mirror locked up with Live View as the mirror hit the protruding back element of the lens if focused further than 7 metres.

Is anyone doing something of this kind here and what kind of results you get to justiify such madness?

No, I did not order the Jupiter 3. I do not think I will.

Interview With Canon at CP+

HTML:
DPReview had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Go Tokura, Group Executive ICP Group 2, Image Communications Products Operations, Canon Inc. and talk all things Canon imaging.</p>
<p>I’ve highlighted a couple of questions from the interview that I think are of the most importance:</p>
<p><strong>What is your strategy for growth in this changed market? What do you need to do to differentiate?</strong></p>
<p><em>“One of the differences between us and our competition is the EF lens lineup. We have a very broad base of EF lens users and we don’t want to do anything that would sacrifice their loyalty, so it’s a very high priority for us to satisfy their needs and meet their demands. </em></p>
<p><em>With regard to the overall market, maybe there’s a lack of vigor and it could be viewed as shrinking. Looking at the compact camera market, the bottom end is dropping considerably and the competition is smartphones. Smartphones offer a very easy, convenient way of taking photos. However in the high-end compact segment, at the high end there are cameras that offer functions and performance that smartphones cannot compete with and here we’re seeing growth. So in the compact market, offering features that smartphones cannot compete with is a way of differentiating and invigorating the market. “</em></p>
<p><strong>If we assume that at some point in the future Canon will create an enthusiast or professional mirrorless camera, what are your benchmarks?</strong></p>
<p><em>“This is just my personal opinion. In my view there are two key features that have to be addressed. The first is autofocus, particularly tracking of moving subjects. The other is the viewfinder. The electronic viewfinder would have to offer a certain standard. If those two functions were to match the performance of EOS DSLR camera performance, we might make the switch.</em></p>
<p><em>Tremendous progress has been made in electronic systems. However in terms of AF, pro-level AF functions, and the range of shooting situations that professional photographers can respond to, there’s still a gap between DSLRs and mirrorless systems.” <a href="http://www.dpreview.com/interviews/0533836703/cp-plus-canon-interview-important-to-increase-development-speed" target="_blank">Read the full interview at DPReview</a></em></p>

Two cameras??

I currently have a 5D Mark III. I shoot mostly kids activities/sports and landscapes. For those of you who shoot with two bodies, do you see significant advantages to having a crop sensor camera like the 7D Mark II as a second camera? I miss the focal length difference but are there any additional benefits?

Is my 430EX II dying?

I've had my 430EX II for over 2 years now, and used it almost every day.

However, in a photoshoot today it was taking too long to reload between shots. Changed the batteries and it didn't improve it.

When I got home, noticed that the red pilot light is lit, but on consecutive shots the flash won't fire most of the time if I'm shooting 1/4 or stronger. This happened while using a Yongnuo remote trigger and also when using the 430EX II directly on top of the camera.

Just to make sure it wasn't anything else, I did the same tests (with same batteries and trigger) using my 600EX and it worked just fine.

What is wrong with my 430EX II? Has it reached the end of it's operational life? Any failing parts I should replace?

Canon EOS 5D X Chatter Continues [CR0]

HTML:
There has certainly been a lot more EOS 5D Mark III replacement chatter over the last week or so, and no we’re seeing more on forums from past “celebrity” posters.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/57359074" target="_blank">From DPReview</a></p>
<blockquote><p>The timetable for the 5DX was messed up. They were supposed to release it earlier last year, but it was. not meant to be. Soon in the spring will come the 5DX with 28 megapixel sensor.</p></blockquote>
<p>“EOS 5D X” is now the new favoured moniker for the EOS 5D Mark III replacement, though we haven’t heard from anyone all that reliable that this is going to be what the camera is called. I’d also call the current sensor information unreliable. I just don’t think it’s going to be a 28mp camera, and we’re likely to see it around 24mp.</p>
<p>We’re going to see A LOT of this sort of information get passed around over the next little while, have some fun with it, but I’d put this one at CR0, based on the posters past history.</p>

My very BAD Experience with CPS

I joined CPS Gold membership con November last year and decided to have my Canon EOS 5D Mk III serviced along with my Canon 100-400 mk II because of dust inside (still under warranty).

So, decided to send it to the Newport News, VA center on January 27th. The Camera was well serviced and had it back just by the end of the third business day.

The lens is another story: let it go for 5 business day and began calling to ask what was happening, they told me that they got the dust of the lens but had to replace parts because the Focus to infinite was out of spec (I didn't have problems with AF before the service).

Finally, after calling them each day because I had a trip on Febrary 15th, never thought getting dust out of a lens would take so much!. Got my lens back on February 12th, went on to test it: Surprise has soft focus, and can't even focus well on Live view. Called them right away and the sent me a label to send it back and got me a loaner.

Thing is: I am abroad right now, a loaner lens is a responsibility as is not my lens, and my lens it's still being checked, at this point I think they should stop looking around and give me a new (or at least a refurbished unit) to replace mine.

I am really disappointed at how my case has been handled, if it was just an AF adjustment they would have already done that, so it was something that went wrong during the service and they are trying to fix it without telling me what's going on.

What have been your experience with CPS?

Need some advice on getting the Canon 35mm 1.4 II.

As the title says, I'm thinking about picking up the new Canon 35mm 1.4 II, I used to think about picking up the old 35mm or even the Sigma version but didn't get them as I wanted the weather sealing.

So for those of you who have the the 35mm 1.4 II how is it? do you like the larger design? what are your favourite things and least favourite things about the lens?

Thin focus compact camera

My Sony Rx100 is dying and I might be in the market (if my wife agrees).
I was looking at canon generally because I am happier with my full frame EOS gear and I want something that is easy to use for my wife but something that I won't cringe when I am forced to use it. So need manual mode and raw.

She loves the look of my 85 1.2 lens when I use it at 1.2.

I know I can't get that thin focus on the smaller sensors, but what come near?

The budget will be a problem and I am not interested in another monster. She needs to be able to put it in the pocket like the Sony we have(that size was the only reason we went with Sony)

I was looking at canon and saw a 1.5 inch sensor in the G1X mark ii and the G7X mark ii with its 1.8 lens
I know the G1X mark ii is not really 1.5 inch in any direction and I know it is only 12.8 MP. I think that is enough for the 8x12 photos even with a small bit of cropping.

What other such cameras are available? Want low light and large aperture lens!
Even though I am looking at canon, I am not stuck with canon. The Sony was great.

How to update Phottix Mitros+ ???

I downloaded the 1.07 update from Phottix. I hooked the flash to the computer with a Micro USB. I just can't get anything to happen. If I drag and drop it says the file is much too large. There is almost nothing showing as being in the flash. One nonsense file and one file about volume.

Could this be something to do with Windows 8? I can't find any YouTube videos or anything.

Thanks.

Panasonic GH5 6k?

Anyone come across this yet? Holy smokes this is insane. Are there sufficient graphics cards and monitors available to support 4K yet? Am sure there are but this is madness. :) (insert this is Sparta comment)

"According to Japanese news outlet Nikkan the Panasonic GH5 will get a resolution bump to approximately 20MP, with 18MP stills pulled from the 6K video mode in 16:9 aspect ratio. 4K at higher frame rates such as 60p, likely with a crop of the sensor is rumoured to be possible...."

Fuji thoughts

Having had a EOS-M for three years, I'm getting seriously disappointed with the lack of native glass for the mount. I've started thinking towards buying into the Fujifilm range.

What do I miss in the EOS-M range, I want a few fast primes, I'm attracted to the 23mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 in the Fujifilm range, but then I think, would I get the most out of these on a simple X-E2 or X-M1 ? Then start looking at the X-T1 which has hipster style, twiddly dials on the body and so on... I'm now at £2500 with an X-T1, 18-135mm, 23mm and 56mm - that's kinda more than me simply buying a Canon 50mm f1.2 and a Samyang 50mm for the EOS-M.

Have I lost the plot, what's the real benefits of going Fujifilm for my second camera, what's the pitfalls, would a 23 & 56 be a bit silly on the X-E2 ? Help me !
