"a release 5Dsr with a test version of DPP4. Low ISO DR is put at 1.5-2 stops better than the 1D X, but high ISO performance (6400) falls marginally behind the 7Dmk2.
The sensor is similar to the 7D2 technology, but has apparently been tuned to maximise low ISO performance.
Welcome news here, but I know it won't be popular in some quarters. If it means that Canon have been listening to some of its pro market and produced a camera for the likes of myself, then great.
If you wanted faster fps, high ISO and better video, then perhaps you can appreciate how I (and many others) felt looking at the 1D X ?"

That would explain why a camera with the same pixel pitch of the 7D2 should have max ISO of 6400 instead 16000 !
Especially when there would be the resolution advantage.... If did t make any sense....!
I guess that's a good news for Landscape photographers !

Hi everyone - just wanted to let you know (after the fantastic advice) that I ended up getting the 5d3 + 24-70mm f/2.8 II USM IS + 70-300mm f/4 - 5.6L IS USM + 16-35mm f2.8 Mark II USM and have travelled extensively with the 1st 2 lenses and handled it fine !

I love the sharpness of the 24-70mm and the 70-300mm has been on my camera ALOT ! Even tho the reach for Africa may have been lacking - but thats OK as I knew that would be the case !

In found in Africa I was taking so many close up people shots, esp of the kids....so cute ! Also as I previously mentioned landscapes and architecture are still on my hot list. Im thinking I now need a prime that helps me with the sharpness in some of these situations.

SO Im now looking at some PRIMES after owning my gear for a year. My range of shooting is so big, but considering that I have some good lenses at certain focal lengths Im not sure what to consider.

35/50/85/100/135 - eeek too much to consider ~ Advice would be great.

I spend a lot of thought into lenses like those, I mean around f/2 sort of apertures.
With the fantastic 2.8 II zooms, I somehow don't feel the need for a prime that is only one stop faster, even if it has good IQ.
So, I decided for myself I would get primes only if they are 1.4 at least, and to not to touch e.g. the 85 f/1.8 or the 35 f/2 or the 135 f/2.
Then again, I don't shoot video, so the STM / IS combination does probably not attract me as it does others.

Did any of you arrive at a different reasoning?

Well for all those who went on and on about Canon not having a trigger for the RT system that fires your older non RT flashes, it looks like it will be here very soon.

I have had several Yongnuo products with mixed luck, but this is a unique solutio to some of your problems so I hope it is a good example of theirs.

And if it gives a programmable trigger delay then we will get the Einsteins Hypersyncing!

I dropped a lens for the first time ever last weekend, and the lens did not come away unscathed. I dropped my EF 16-35mm f/4L IS lens about a foot onto a metal stool. It bounced off and fell another eight inches onto carpet. It was only 3 weeks old. I put the lens onto a body and everything seemed to work. The images looked fine.

Today I went to use the lens and noticed the zoom ring is stuck. It will only zoom between 24mm and 35mm. I know it needs to go to Canon for repair. I bought a CPS gold membership a week before I dropped the lens, so I should get 20% off the repair. Good timing, I guess.

What do you think is wrong with my lens, and how much do you think it will cost to fix?

<p>In the above promotional video for the Canon EOS M3, we see what appears to be an EOS M3 shooting a lens that is set at f/1.2. During the entire promotional video, there’s no real mention of shooting with the EF to EF-M adaptor. Are we going to see a fast aperture EF-M lens coming soon?</p>
<p>You can see the f/1.2 setting at 2:21 of the video.</p>
<p>The video is worth a watch, as it shows a lot of the improvements in the EOS M3.</p>

anyone care to speculate on the impact of the 50meg sensor on the medium format market?
The new 5Ds/5Dsr are both less than half of the list for a pentax 645d, a fifth of Leica S and less than a tenth
of some Hasselblad/Leaf/Mamiya offerings. Combined with the wider variety of lens options,
portability and other considerations, do you think this will create a price drop for the "big fellows" or
new announcements of perhaps 75-90 meg image sensors?

So the official specs are out. What if anything would you like to see added/changed before the actual production models are released in June?

So far for me:

1. DUAL ISO - This seems so simple a firmware tweak to add in as ML did in their firmware hacks. A 50MP sensor in my mind is begging for this. Something completely customizable whereby you can select up to a 3-4 stop gap. 100 & 400, 400 & 3200, etc.... whatever you like. This would instantly boost the DR several stops on the Canon sensor's final output and largely eliminate the need to HDR bracket and merge shots in post.

2. Exposure Compensation in AUTO ISO - I've read where this is on the 7D2 and 1DX (came as firmware update). Would be nice to see it on this one too although I don't know if it's confirmed or denied that it already is or isn't.

Share you thoughts! Please keep it civil and refrain from the middle finger approach ;D

If we all start emailing/facebooking/calling Canon USA with these sorts of things, maybe they get dialed in before the release. Think about how they make decisions on firmware updates?

Tony Northup has an interesting take on how the 7Dii has finally caught up in ISO performance to Sonikon (but not in Dynamic Range).
Also interesting take on DXO projected perceivable pixels.

One thing to note about this is Canon has been planning for high MP and has developed many lenses many of us already own that already can take advantage of high MP's starting with the 100L to all the mkii zooms and latest L lenses to even the 24/28/35 IS lenses that acheive close to the maximum perceivable pixels in the current sensor.
I don't think Nikon planed as far ahead in terms of releasing lenses supporting higher mp when you look at their lineup. Luckily for Nikon, there are 3rd party glass that can but have compromises (super pricey or sub par autofocus like Zeiss/tamron/Sigma/etc..)

Has anyone figured out how to sep-up the wi-fi Ive followed Canon on-line tutorial and failed so far to get wi-fi up and running using printer on network via ethernet cable. Want to be able to print from tablet where I have adobe LR.

Dear guys and girls,
I have a 600EX-RT for some time and just added anotherone to the gear. Now I discover that I can not find ETTL with radio (Ican find optical link, annnd I can use radion for linked shots). Is it me, or is it the machine???
Any andvice greatly apprechiated.

Back when I bought the 1Ds3, I wanted a camera that could do all that I might want to do.
I didn't want my gear to hold me back from trying anything, from BIF to macro...it has served me well.

That was then, when I was younger and more able to be out and about...now, age is catching up
and am more likely to shoot indoors and, am more prone to consider "need" as opposed to "want".
The improved versatility doesn't seem to be as important as it once was. That ole camera has the
feel of that ole pair of slippers that sure do feel comfortable when lounging around.

Regardless, I read this morning that availability is June...lots of time to change my mind.

Kuuvik Capture seems to allow you to project focus peaking on (remote usb) live view with a Canon dslr. It is only available for Mac OS X. I have tried to use it in VirtualBox, but I cannot get my camera recognized by the Mac OS X (also Canon Utilities don't 'see' my camera there). In windows, everything works fine.

Since google didn't get me any further, I am asking here: who knows of a piece of software that runs under windows and allows you to use focus peaking on the computer screen with the camera connected via usb?

I know Canon has stated that the 24-70 f/2.8 L II and 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II lens are optimized for the new 50 megapixel sensor in the 5DS/5DSR camera but what other existing Canon lenses will work well with this beast of a sensor or maybe more importantly what Canon lenses won't be up to the task?

I currently own the following lenses:

1) Canon EF 17-40 f/4 L USM
2) Canon EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM
3) Canon EF 85 1.8 USM
4) Canon EF 100 2.8 Macro USM
5) Canon EF 70-200 2.8 L USM

Will my present glass be able to handle this new sensor or will I have to upgrade some of them?

I love the "street price" listed on Canon Price Watch. But what if the lens you want is not included in the street price program? Is it worth trying to negotiate a better deal with B&H or Adorama? If you have done this, what worked for you? Did you contact them by email or phone? Did you offer a lower price first or ask for their best "street price?"

The various articles that I read about the new full frames had gotten me hot to trot. I am excited about the 5Ds R as both a landscape and a closeup camera and was ready to pull the trigger. I'd assumed that today's anticipated announcement would mean that I could pre-order today and I was prepared to wait a few weeks for delivery. But, no one's allowing pre-orders at this time and to my dismay, the Amazon website says no pre-orders until April 30! That suggests that it may be July before these cameras are actually in consumers' hands. That's a long time to wait for a product and, to be honest, I wish Canon had either been quicker to get these cameras to market or had delayed its announcement by a couple of months. Getting my hopes up and then telling me that I'll have to wait -- probably for 1/2 year -- is a bummer. :-[

I am looking at couple a 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM with a 1.4x MKIII teleconverter.
Has any use both of these together, worried about a significant loss of AF speed and IQ, the latter being the bigger of the worry.

Thoughts?

"Playing to the base is best because it retains customers in your ecosystem. You took time to build that ecosystem, after all, so you want to maximize your returns from it. That means keep current users from leaking, ..."

In my case playing to the base is why I'm leaving Canon. I want/need mirrorless (YMMV). So playing-it-safe has cost Canon a long time customer (20 plus years)
