7d mk2 poor image quality and noise in raw images using lightroom

Hi everyone..

Has anyone else had a problem when downloading raw images into lightroom from the 7d mk2...they have poor image quality and have bad noise even with low ISO (200) .I have tried various versions of lightroom ,various computers etc....

The only satisfactory way of downloading images from the camera is using canons own software....when the results are vastly improved......

Canon 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 EF-S IS STM - IS broken?

Hey guys, maybe you could help me.

I've received today Canon 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 EF-S IS STM and started to take pictures rightaway with 7d2 (100d hasn't arrived yet). I realized there is literally no difference between IS on and off. Anyone who owns that lens can tell me if it should make some sounds while IS is active (half pressed shutter button) and if there is visible lag (compensating for ie. shake) with IS on? With this copy there is no sound with or without IS, it reacts to even little shake and move right away - but it's hard to tell with its short focal length :) it's so bloody wide. Does anyone had similar problem with canon IS lens?

TIA

EOS M3 AF is a test winner!

The EOS M3 is a test winner according to the German „photoMAGAZIN“ journal 06/2015.
(http://www.fotomagazin.de/ , German only)

They were testing the Canon EOS M3, Fujifilm X-A2, Panasonic Lumix GF7 and the Samsung NX500 in categories like image quality (OOC JPEGs), speed (AF and shooting speed), features and handling.
The M3 and NX500 won a shared overall 1st place with Canon having the best IQ (!!!, OOC JPEGs) and AF speed (!!!) of the test field and the NX500 with the highest shutter speed (9/sec).

Interesting was the overall conclusion that Canon needed 2 (and a half) attempts for a good MILC (M, M2 counting half and M3) and a detailed analysis that the AF with EF-M lenses is now one of the fastest, while still struggling with EF and EF-S lenses. Good numbers are coming from a continuous AF independent of pressing the shutter or the AF mode used (don't ask me, what that means for battery life).

Shutter delay with AF in numbers (average time):
EOS M 0.8 sec
EOS M3 0.2 sec
Both with EF-M 18-55 (Canon was saying that AF would be six times faster)

EOS M3 with EF-S 18-135 STM 0.5 sec
EOS M3 with EF 24-105L IS USM 0.8 sec
STM being overall faster with EOS M than USM.

For comparison:
Fujifilm X-A2 0.7 sec (with 16-50 OIS II)
Panasonic Lumix GF7 0.25 sec (with G Vario 12-32)
Samsung NX500 0.25 sec (with 16-50 PZ OIS)

Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS Update Information [CR2]

HTML:
We were initially <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2015/02/new-50mm-70-300-coming-soon-cr2/" target="_blank">told about an update to the EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS at the same time</a> as the recently announced EF 50mm f/1.8 STM. At that time we assumed they’d be coming out together, but that turned out not to be true.</p>
<p class="p1">We’re told that the new EF 70-300 IS will have a new USM motor as well as “some feature that one of Canon’s competitors have announced recently”. What that “feature” is, we’re not sure. The source goes on to say that the lens, whenever it comes to market, is a very good upgrade to the current version.</p>
<p class="p1">The same source also confirms that the EF 35mm f/1.4L II will come in 2015 if all goes to plan.</p>
<p class="p1">More to come.</p>

Yongnuo YN-622C and 580EX II problems

Hi all,

I've used this forum before, but this is my first post as I think this is the best community I can find help for my problem.

I've recently bought 2 Yongnuo YN-622C transceivers and I’ve had continuing problems with them from day one.

I set one transceiver up on my Canon 6D correctly, following the instructions in the manual. The contacts are good, and the batteries are fully charged. The other one I put on my Canon 580EX II. When I release the shutter on my camera, the flash fires, but the image is not exposed correctly (using ETTL). The green light on the YN-622C then flashes three times, and a secondary, smaller flash is then fired. Sometimes the flash will trigger, when the shutter release is only pressed half way.

I’ve carefully read the instructions and reset all the items to factory settings, and replaced all the batteries but the problems still persist. I’ve also not found this problem replicated on Google, and have not received a response from Yongnuo after emailing them about this.

Does anyone have any solutions or has anyone experienced before please?

Many thanks.

XIOMI 10400, Power in the pocket.

Hello. I got the Xiomi 10400 external power source directly from China -sent to me without postal charges.
I have an HTC cell phone where you cannot change batteries so you have to pay attention that you leave the house in full charge. And of course the a6000 runs dry in just a couple of hours.
The XIOMI seems to put in quite a current as the camera was fully charged in two hours.
Nice and warm!

A handy little gadget, not expensive at 41 dollars, either.

JJC lens hoods

I was looking for a lens hood for my Canon 35mm F/2 IS lens on Ebay. Found several retailers offering a line of lens hoods under the brand JJC.

The prices varied a lot among the various vendors, but all were very cheap, so I took a chance and ordered one priced in the middle of the range. It turns out to work perfectly! It has a little springy release button on the side that I haven't seen before. I think it's a nice touch. I have no idea if the Canon equivalent has such a button.

The JJC hood does mount backwards for storage.

Anyway, if you have been wishing for a lens hood but didn't want to pay Canon prices and didn't want to risk your money on an unknown brand, I suggest you check out the JJC lens hoods.

Pentax Super Takumar on 6D issues

Recently purchased an adapter to use some old pentax glass on my 6D. Crazy sharp and fairly cheap nowadays...

Anyway I found that upon focusing the Super-Takimar 35mm f/2 to infinity, the back element of the lens protrudes just enough to lock up the mirror after firing a shot. Upon focusing the lens a bit closer, the mirror falls back down. Tested this a couple of times, and I found no damage to the mirror, or to the back of the mirror assembly.

Should I be concerned about this, or is this just a minor inconvenience?

14mm 2.8, Bower? Samyang? Rokinon?

So, I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower 14mm f/2.8 for Canon. I just have one question.

Is there really any difference between the Samyang, Rokinon, and Bower branded copies? As in any difference at all? I know that they're all the same lens, but the price differences leave me scratching my head. I can get the Bower for $260 and yet the Rokinon is $320, which makes me suspicious that maybe there is some difference. Maybe in terms of QC? Or has Bower not been as successful a brand name and they're reducing price to move Bower-branded stock?

Anyway, any thoughts?

EOS 7D Mark II Firmware 1.04

HTML:
A reader purchased a grey market Canon EOS 7D Mark II via GetItDigital and the camera came with firmware 1.04. The current version available from Canon is 1.02.</p>
<p>At the time of writing this, it is unknown when or if this firmware version will become available for download or what has changed.</p>

Any good reason not to buy a 1Ds III (asking for purchasing advice).

Hi Folks.
I have been looking to get a FF camera for a while now, I didn't want a body without AFMA ruling out a 5D, I think I heard a few people say the 6D AF is an improvement over the 5D II and I have seen enough complaints about the 6D for action to not bother with that one.
I have the opportunity to buy a 1Ds III for a good price, is there any good reason other than the 1Dx not to.
I use both my main bodies with a grip, so size and weight is not a concern, in fact I have large hands and find the smaller bodies uncomfortable to use. Don't do much video, and 7D does that to the level I desire.
I will have a very short time, a few minutes, to check for any obvious problems, in the pictures it looks nice and clean and unmarked so that is a good start, the serial no is visible in the pictures, on line for 2 weeks and more, so I'm guessing it would have been spotted if it was hot. Anywhere I can check the serial so that I have done due diligence against receiving stolen property. I like to trust people but I also can't afford not to be careful on a purchase like this.
Will the AF be an improvement over a 7D, or at least as good?
I shoot cars, planes, people (relatives and friends), pets, birds, all sorts.
Thanks in advance for the sharing of knowledge almost certain to follow. :)

Cheers, Graham.

Photography vest suggestions for safari

Hi all-

I'm looking for a vest that I can cram a body and some smaller lenses in to for the times when you are getting hassled about luggage weight. We are going on a trip to Uganda and Tanzania in July and I want to be ready for this. I've been lucky before and on 3 prior Africa trips I've been able to scam my way despite having overweight luggage in a variety of ways but I suspect my luck won't hold out. The weight limits for all luggage range from 10-15 kg which isn't much for clothes and camera gear.

I don't expect it to be incredibly comfortable when acting in this role with lots of stuff in it but that's a bonus. I've used the Humvee Safari photo vest before which was fine but pockets not as large as I'd like and not the look I'd like. I was looking at the same brand but the combat photo vest. I also looked at getting a basic MOLLE compatible vest and then using some MOLLE pouches I already have.

The problem with all of these is that they are very noticeable. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the Scottevest Travel Vest. It costs more but seems more low profile. There are reviews out there where people claime to have packed some bodies and lenses. One guy even said he got a 70-200/2.8 without a hood. I'd be happy to be able to put an extra body and a few smaller zooms and assorted stuff (24-105, 16-35, some TC's, and random smaller things like batteries) just to get on and off bush planes.

The nice thing with the Scottevest is that I might actually use it for other things like when I have business travel.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Horses at the gallop?

Hi Folks.
Well I ended up at Ascot for the racing quite unexpectedly as a guest on Saturday, I had my camera with me and tried to take panning shots of the horses at the gallop, I got motion blur alright, out of about 30 shots of the horses I have one that is acceptable though not great, all but one horse is a blur, all the others have terrible blur, I never realised how much movement there is with a running horse, head bobbing, jockey bouncing etc. I wanted blurred legs but had clearly misunderstood horses!
Is it possible to pan with horses or do you crank the shutter speed up and freeze the movement? I used the 70-200 f2.8 II ISO 100 1/80th (I think) and f7 ish as needed to suit the other settings.
I will post a shot when I can find it from the blurred ones.
This was my first try shooting horses other than stood still in a field!
Any one got any tips in case I get to go back?
Also don't bet on any horse I bet on, one of them even came last without the jockey! ;D

Cheers, Graham.
