1dc used body sale in AUSTRALIA

Friends in Australia… I am in the process of selling my 1dc and am wondering if there would be a market for a used 1dc in Australia. My sister is visiting me from there and can carry it with her and put it up for sale on ebay/amazon. My other option is to sell it in USA but then I will have to ship it such other complications. Any thoughts? Will it sell for a decent price there?

Free Firmware Upgrades For Canon XF205 and XF200 Professional Camcorders Deliver Improved Basic Perf

HTML:
<b>MELVILLE, N.Y., March 4, 2015</b> – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today two free firmware upgrades1 that the company will make available for the Canon XF205 and XF200 Professional Full HD camcorders (released in July 2014), one of which adds a new image-quality setting to the camcorder and another that enables the streaming of video over an IP network.</p>
<p>Since their launch in July 2014, the Canon XF205 and XF200 camcorders have proven popular in a wide variety of fields, from the production of news and other broadcasting content to the recording of weddings and other events. In response to the needs of a wide range of users, the new firmware upgrades will add such features as a new image-quality setting that facilitates video recording with reduced noise even in low-light conditions2, as well as numerous functions that deliver enhanced basic performance, such as the ability to stream live video over an IP network.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<div><b>New image-quality setting (upgrade to be released in mid-April 2015)</b></div>
<p>One of the new upgrades, to be released in mid-April 2015, will add an image-quality setting to the XF205 and XF200 camcorders that facilitates the recording of video with noise reduction even in low-light conditions. This feature will enable users to choose the optimal image quality based on their shooting requirements, providing a choice between a setting that prioritizes the high-resolution capabilities of the camcorder – the camcorders’ default setting – and a new image-quality setting that gives priority to video with noise reduction.</p>
<div><b>Support for IP streaming (upgrade to be released in late-June 2015)</b></div>
<p>The firmware upgrade to be released in late-June 2015 will enable the XF205 and XF200 camcorders to support video streaming over an IP network, a method that is widely used in the broadcasting industry to send and receive video signals. By sending video over the internet while it is being captured, users will be able to provide live transfers of footage to news programs and video-sharing sites. In addition, the upgrade will enable the camcorders to be used with Fujitsu’s video transmission equipment, the Fujitsu Network IP-900IID and IP-920D HD/SD Compact Video Decoders3 as well as software supporting IP streaming. Thanks to these new capabilities, users will be able to stream video over an IP network without having to alter existing video-capture and editing workflows, such as those employed at broadcasting stations.</p>
<p>Canon will exhibit prototype-versions of the firmware upgrades at the Canon booth during the 2015 NAB Show from April 13 to 16 in Las Vegas.</p>
<div><b>Additional information</b></div>
<p>The firmware upgrade enabling IP streaming will support the following video data formats:</p>

<div><b>Additional functions delivering further enhancements</b></div>
<p>In addition to newly supporting IP video streaming, the firmware upgrade – available in late-June 2015 – will allow XF205 and XF200 camcorder users to take advantage of various new functions, including those outlined below:</p>
<ol>
<li><b>Slow- and fast-motion video capture in MP4 format</b>When recording in the MP4 format, users will be able to slow down the action up to 40 percent or speed up video up to 250 percent, facilitating the creation of high-impact and expressive footage.</li>
<li><b>Improved Wi-Fi setting display</b>When choosing Wi-Fi® settings on the XF205 and XF200, the camcorders’ selection menu screen will feature an improved user interface delivering intuitive, easy-to-understand operability.</li>

Size/weight 11-24 vs 24-70 f2.8L IS?

I was just reading that Nikon might be coming out with a 24-70 f2.8 VR. It might be a PF lens, which would make it lighter than usual (PF is Nikon's version of DO).

It got me remembering that the supposed reason Canon has yet to release a 24-70 f/2.8L IS is due to it being large and heavy. Then I thought, "Isn't the new 11-24 f/4 large and heavy?" So far I don't see people really complaining.

Do you all speculate that a 24-70 f/2.8L IS would be larger or smaller than AND weigh more or less than the 11-24? Or would it be about the same?

Obviously, this would be mostly pure speculation. Perhaps the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC could be used for comparison though.

24-105L, loose front element?

Hi all

Today I dropped by camera bag from about 3 feet onto hard packed snow. It was freezing and I had been out for a while and I was taking the bag off my shoulder to put into the car and I was so layered up and really cold that it just slipped out of my hands somehow. Pretty embarrassing, has never happened before. The fall honestly wasn't THAT hard though.

Anyways, I noticed after this that my 24-105 front element (specifically, the metal that holds the lens cap which also holds the front element) seems a little loose now? It wiggles slightly. I really can't tell if it was like this before I dropped the bag or not. I only noticed because I opened the bag looking for problems after I dropped it. Its not so terrible, its more something you can feel and only see under close inspection. None of my other lenses are loose like this though. I haven't got a chance to test it out yet, but I will do that later. Just posting here to see if anyone can feel their 24-105 and see if something similar happens? I really need this lens for an event I'll be shooting soon. I could shoot without it if I really had too but I'd rather not.

Thanks,
Ryan

Let's see your 11-24 images

I thought I would create this thread for everyone to show off their images with the new 11-24. I'll start with a few of mine from my first day shooting with this lens.

I took this shot a few minutes after opening the box. It is the most I have been able to get of our treehouse in one shot.

Lens Recommendations

Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing my first L lens to go with my original 7D. First, let me make clear that I'm not interested in EF-S lenses. An upgrade to FF in the future is very possible, and where I'm located now, selling lenses is not an option. I'm also looking at a prime, although a zoom is a possibility, depending on price.

My current lens is a 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, which I think is okay for a walkaround, but I need something faster to deal with indoors shooting (high ISO on the 7D is not brilliant). I've been looking at my stats in Lightroom, and the majority of my shots are at around 50mm and at 135mm, which leads me to looking at the 50L and the 135L.

I'm based in China, where the prices are a little different from the US and Europe, but I can only stretch to the price of a 50L at the most (9,500RMB - which works out at around 950GBP). The Sigma Art 50 and Tamrom 24-70 f/2.8 are also possibilities, but I'd prefer to keep to Canon lenses.

I shoot portraits almost exclusively, so I'm not bothered about something really wide.

Any suggestions? What do you guys think?

We Have Received Our EF 11-24mm f/4L

HTML:
<p>We have received our Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L and we’re over the moon about it.</p>
<p>I’m heading out this weekend for some winter landscapes to try the lens out. I’ll also be using it at the end of March for 10 days shooting the Isles of Skye, Lewis & Harris in Scotland. After I’ve completed that photo tour, I should have a good amount of images and field work for a review.</p>
<p>I’ve shot 12mm on Leica before, but I’m hoping this goes a lot better than that experiment did.</p>

Looking to upgrade my gear!

Hello everyone,

First off I have been a frequent reader everyday for years now and I always value people's opinions. With that in mind, I decided to post and see if anyone could offer me some opinions.

I have been saving a couple years now in order to make my transition into FF and accumulate some new gear :)! I am currently a paid student photographer for a school newspaper and I shoot a ton of sports along with events. I am lucky enough that our newspaper has a full blown studio that is used for celebrities that come to our school, headshots, magazines we shoot, etc. I have become quite well rounded through shooting all of these events on a weekly basis. I currently am shooting with my own canon 7d, 70-200mm 2.8ii, sigma 50mm 1.4 A, and 24-105mmL for most of these events. While I enjoy shooting sports, I'd say that my passion lies in portraiture/studio work, but i do occasionally wander off for a bit of landscape photography :P I have saved upwards of 8k specifically for photo gear and I have some hard choices to make in that I have a lot of choices to choose from at this budget :S

I'll summarize some of my thoughts so far

-Either a 5d3/or 5ds/ and/or 7d markii
-Potentially a speedlight lighting kit
-Canon 24-70 f2.8ii

I really appreciate any advice on gear advice or experiences working with certain gear, any insight will help me make a more well informed decision :) Maybe even sell me on new gear ::) Who knows ;D

Thanks

Jon

First Looks at Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM Lens Image Quality

The Digital Picture has the crops up for comparison:
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=14614

It looks very good to me, and I'm pleased to see how sharp it is compared to the other lenses in the range. It holds its own against the 16-35 f/4 IS, with less distortion, is better at 24mm than the 24-70 f/2.8 II, kills the Sigma 12-24 II, and stopped down, is as sharper or sharper than all but the TS-E 17 and 24II lenses. It sure makes me feel better about the money spent.

Why no firmware update for Sig 50mm Art?

One of the key points on even Sigma's site promoting the Art series is how the lenses can be updated with the dock.

The 35mm Art had the firmware updated within six months of release, and I was lucky to get one of these that continues to amaze me with its IQ and AF.

I returned a 50mm Art with erratic AF, believing that a firmware update was soon to come. That was about a year ago...

So, please speculate, why has Sigma not addressed Canon (and even some Nikon) mount AF issues on the 50mm Art?

Could it be that the only people in the world having troubles are those posting here? I know I've read several otherwise great reviews that, as a footnote, mention "slow" AF or "not always accurate" AF.

What's going on???

Tilt Shift 90mm Sharpness

Hi there, please can I get your help.

I have the Tilt Shift 90mm which I use for Product and Still Life photography in a studio. I love the sharpness and clarity of the lens, and so far I haven't really used the tilt function that often.

A few weeks back I dropped the lens on my camera body, 6D, from a height of about 2 feet onto the carpet and the shift had shifted by 8 degrees. It may have hit a piece of metal lying around.
I have only started to use the lens again recently.

I generally shoot Jewellery as part of still life set up with studio lighting; so on a table, I might put the Jewellery on a tile, or fabric.
If I fill the frame with the shot and focus a third of the way up (perhaps focussing on a specific Jewel), without tilting or shifting I am noticing that the top edges of the image, are a little soft, at f16. This is only really noticeable at 1:1 preview in Lightroom. If I focus nearer the top third, the bottom of the image is slightly soft at 1:1.

The edges are sharper at f22, naturally.

My question is, is this normal for this lens with the conditions that I work in, and am I pixel peeping, expecting too much, or should the lens not display softness around the edges at f11 - f 18, 20, when doing this kind of tabletop studio work? Am I focussing on the right point?

I did not notice this before it was dropped, but maybe I wasn't looking for it, plus I was cropping the edges of the frame, to get the best composition. I have checked previous images and one is slightly soft around the top edge.

thank you for your help in advance.

D.

Canon 7d mark II video problems

Hi!

I was shooting some video yesterday and noticed some unusual flickering of some sort I think..

Here's a video of the actual problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnU4SB9t5E4

First I thought it's just some problems with the lcd screen but later I noticed it continues to show in the record itself (as seen in the video).

It does not appear when shooting stills in LiveView mode. Also worth mentioning that I tried it with all my lenses and it seemed to be equally bad with every lens.

Shutter speed seems to have something to do with it. Lowering shutter speed below 100 seems to make it disappear (you can see me swithcing shutter speed in the video).

Anyone know what might be causing this or has anyone noticed similar problems?

Thanks!
-Dan

Canon - Give us 400/5.6L IS NOW!!

Dear Canon,
why can't you add IS to a new 400/5.6L in your setup, 10000' of bird/action photographers would buy a lightweight, top-quality lens of this caliber the first week out on the market!?
High-ISO and better cameras is perfect for such a lens!
OR you could look up in your museum the even older 400/4.5 and remake that, that used to be a nice lens in the old FD-era :)
Back to the drawing-table NOW!

Eos 6d metering timer

I have recently bought myself a brand new Eos 6d and am loving it but noticed that whatever I input as time for the metering timer of the camera it always turns of after 4 seconds...
Have gone over the manual to see if this is caused by some conflicting settings, but couldn't find anything.

And eventhough it's no biggie at all, the camera works perfectly for the rest, I am just wondering if any other 6d-user has experienced this and if it could maybe be the beginning of more trouble (computers you know)? ???
