Dynamic Range example please

Dear all,

since many people are complaining about Canon's lacking DR capabilities (including upcoming 5Ds),
can please someone upload the same picture, same scene, same framing, same settings shot with
a 5D Mark III and as a comparison one of the praised Nikon's or Sony's etc. having better DR.
Please make also the RAW files available.
I would like to see the difference myself in a living example.
Otherwise I don't believe.

Thx.

Tom

5Ds steeper colorfilter - what to expect?

Okey, so no DR improvement. Bummer

So then I rely on the claimed "better" colorfilter to produce more natural deep colors. I've found later canons to be more "disney" like in the color response. They are punchy yeah, but not the right punch unless processed more than I have time to. My reference is my trusty 1Ds Mark III which has a steep and accurate color filter. In fact it scores superhigh on DXO in that area.

How do you think this camera will be in that department? The 1ds Mark III produces absolutely GORGEOUS files.

Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM

Wasn't sure about the most appropriate place to post this, but I hope this will do for now.
Here are a two shots (and some cropped parts) taken with the new EF 11-24 mm f/4L attached to a pre-production 5Ds R. I'm not going to translate the article by Magnus Fröderberg, because I'm sure you just want to look at the photos.

Shots were taken two days ago in London. -> http://www.fotosidan.se/cldoc/canon-ef-11-24-mm-f.htm

Canon EOS 5Ds & EOS 5Ds R Image & Video Samples

Well, Canon kind of exploded all at once !!

The new 5D series prices in a little less than I thought - sure sounds like it might shoot some very nice images.

Probably some of us now wondering if we didn't pull the trigger a bit premature with the 7D2? Hmmm... The 1.3 and 1.6 factor sounds interesting too, if it pulls in the images like one hopes it will.

Guess we'll know pretty quickly as the reviews come in -- will sure put a dent in any wallet where a shooter is used to two cameras in the field (ouch) like myself and lots of my colleagues.

Several new models of cameras and lenses -- jumping out like its been sitting and waiting for the holiday dust to settle. Can't wait to see what 50mp does to an image, and how large a print it might allow?

Official: Canon PowerShot G3 X Coming Some Day

HTML:
<div class="articleBody">
<p><strong>MELVILLE, N.Y., February 5, 2015 —</strong> Canon U.S.A., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc., is developing a new addition to the Company’s G-series lineup of premium compact cameras—the PowerShot G3 X—and will display a prototype of the camera at CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015, to be held from February 12th-15th at the PACIFICO YOKOHAMA Exhibition Hall in Yokohama, Japan.</p>
<p>The new PowerShot G3 X, currently under development by Canon Inc., will incorporate a large 1.0-inch sensor and a 24–600mm (35mm film equivalent) 25x optical zoom lens while maintaining a compact size that makes it easy to carry around. The camera will produce images with beautifully blurred backgrounds, made possible by its large sensor, and provide users with a wide range of focal lengths, from wide-angle to telephoto. The addition of the new model will serve to further bolster Canon’s already impressive G-series PowerShot camera lineup.</p>
<p>Introduced in 2000 as a high-end-model lineup, Canon’s G series of PowerShot cameras has played a leading role in the compact camera market thanks to its high-image quality.</p>
<p>Calling upon the Company’s latest lens, sensor and image processing technology know-how, Canon launched the current flagship-model PowerShot G1 X Mark II camera in March 2014, followed in October of the same year with the launch of the high-image-quality compact-body PowerShot G7 X camera. Both models have proven popular among a wide range of high-end users, including users of EOS-series interchangeable-lens cameras.</p>
<p>By actively and flexibly responding to the market’s diverse needs, particularly through the bolstering of the Company’s high-end-model lineup, Canon will continue to contribute to the expansion of the photographic imaging culture.</p>

The 760d has very good specs, for Canon, that is. The camera body is much smaller than a xxd and most likely the firmware is crippled vs. the 70d - but still, it's a challenge.

+ AF 19-point cross-type. Center F2.8 corresponding dual cross (take that, 6d!)
+ RGB-IR photometry sensor. 63 zone TTL metering
- shutter 1/4000s, x-sync 1/200s
- 5fps
* newest dpaf and anti-flicker

Do you think the 70d will be the last xxd and in the future, there will just be "premium" Rebels and the semi-pro 7d2? Or is there still room for something in between?

Monopod - advice what to purchase

I am considering to get a monopod for a bit more support when shooting portraits with my new manual focus Zeiss 135 /f2. Especially after holding it for longer and using a Zacuto loupe and liveview I am suffering from lactic acid building up in my muscles :P The lens is relatively heavy and at a long distance from my eye since I have the Zacuto loup between my eyes and the camera.

I am considering to get a Gitzo monopod (carbon I think), but I also need a (ball) head. What would you choose and what is good enough (but not overkill) for this? Thoughts and ideas appreciated ;D

Thanx,
Niels

1D X Power Adapter

From memory the 1D X did not come with a power adapter, and despite having two batteries there are times when it would be useful to be plugged into the mains and save the battery for when that is not an option.

As such, has anyone used the Canon ACK-E4 AC Adapter Kit (100-240v)? Any thoughts or comments on it?

It looks pretty straight forward and genuine, but thought I would ask here before buying it.

Thanks.

Future Canon DSLR Strategy for More Focused Products?

HTML:
<p>Are the day of a Canon DSLR that can do a little bit of everything numbered? It’s suggested at Northlight that the “splitting” of camera lines will be the future of Canon’s DSLR strategy. Each camera model will have a specific customer in mind. As we can see, the 5D line is being split 2 ways (3 if you count the “R” model), can we expect the same with 1D line, or a DSLR that is focused on video first?</p>
<p><strong>From Northlight

</strong><em>“The ‘splitting’ of model types in the Canon DSLR range will be interesting to see from a product positioning point of view. I’m told that it’s seen as a major benefit from ‘bringing home’ a lot of Canon’s manufacturing, and will become integral in producing cameras that are marketed more by what you can do with them.”</em><strong>

5Ds or 5Ds R for Studio and Portrait Work

Hello everyone,
with all the news about Canons 50Mpx Camera, I need to adress my personal elephant in the room.
I've been working with the 5D MK II for 5 years now and I want to replace it with the 5Ds, I like the 50mpx and the autofocus upgrade. The 5D MK II finaly feels a bit outdated to me.
I mostly shoot fashion and beauty portraits in studio and work on location with strobes.
So now I'm not sure which 5Ds Version to buy. It seems Canon is adressing Landscape Photogaphers with the R Version, however a lot of people here to tend towards R Version also for studio work.
Which camera version would you recommend for my line of work?

Below are some examples of what I shoot mostly:
