Help: I need a pro backpack - BUT topload!

hi guys.
I ve got a nice and big lowepro vertex200 backpack (1 body, 4-6 lenses).
but what I dislike is if I need to change the lens i have to put it down on the ground(on backside)
and open the full backpack to get inside.

-->perfect would be a backpack with upper and lower compartment.
a big upper compartment for frequently-used lenses!!
and a lower compartment for body, other lenses, accessories...

any suggestions?
thx.

new TS-e lenses ?

....after 4 years of waiting the high-megapixel-canon-camera is supposed to become reality................
That takes a load off my aged mind..

as the high-megapixel-body there were also rumors about new TS-e lenses - ...of course years ago.

DO YOU wait for new TSEs too?? like the TSE85, TSE45(maybe different angle--> i dream of a TSE35;)

I would love to see a full set of TSEs like: TSE17, TSE24, TSE35, TSE50, TSE85, TSE135 .

(the TSE17 + TSE24 are absolutely fantastic - the reason I switched from the competitor)

Canon 24-70 f/4L IS sharpness

Hi all

I've started this thread as a result of a question Act444 asked in another thread:
http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=24523.0
The other thread was about a review of Canon's new 24-105 non-L lens so it seemed better to start a new thread for this rather than further side-track the old thread.

I'm going to try posting some sample images (never posted images to CR before) to try to show something about the sharpness of my 24-70 f/4L IS towards the long end of its range and near MFD. Please note I only had a couple of minutes today to grab a few shots so these are all shot on a 6D, handheld at ISO 400, with IS on, using centre-point AF, with shutter speed in the 1/100 to 1/200 range. (Yes, it would have been better if I'd taken them with a tripod and using Live View!) Obviously, then, the testing methodology leaves something to be desired! In particular, movement by me when shooting or AF issues could be significant in making a shot seem soft.

Which lens is better for Street Photography, the EF 40mm STM or EF 50mm 1.8 II?

Trying to decide which lens is better to use as a low profile lens for street photography on a Canon 6D. With the Canon 40mm STM you have the pancake size and metal mount and with the 50mm 1.8 II you have the extra stop of light gathering ability but less robust build quality though it is called the "Nifty Fifty".

400 f/5.6 + 600RT + ST-E3-RT + SB-E2

Hey everybody :)

I've been rather keen to use fill flash for birding ever since seeing Glenn Bartley's tutorial. It will most definitely be a plus for birds under tree canopies or those that are backlit.

I own the ST-E3-RT & 600RT and can pick up the flash bracket (sans cable) for dirt cheap but wondering if this will be practical.

So the flash unit will obviously sit to the right of the camera and I'm wondering if the position, along with the length of the 400mm will cause shadows on my images.

Would this work or should I look at another setup?

Thanks everyone :)

Canon 100-400II: actual mm's

Today I tried to determine the actual mm's of Canon 100-400 II and hence the level of focus breathing.

I determined the horizontal field of view at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 20 meters (distance subject to sensor). It was a quick and dirty method so the error of measure is rather cm's than mm's ;).

This is what I got:

Distance (meters) - Horizontal field of view (meters)

1 - 0.118
2 - 0.207
3 - 0.301
4 - 0.394
5 - 0.487
10 - 0.945
20 - 1.87

From this I calculated the angle of view and further the actual mm's. This is what I got:

Distance (meters) - actual mm's

1 - 305
2 - 348
3 - 358
4 - 365
5 - 370
10 - 380
20 - 384

When I extrapolate the data to 100 m distance, I get 388 mm, so we're probably getting close to 400 mm at infinity.

First time I've done this type of calculation (I am a chemist, I am used to do math on concentrations, molecules and atoms, not optics ;)), so please feel free to check the math and correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers,

Mario

RC-6 Wireless Remote being replaced by Canon?

Hi all,
I was just looking to check some details on the RC-6 to see if it suits my needs for my 5dMkIII & I found most details have been removed & it's listed as 'out of stock' with both Canon Australia (my local page) and Canon USA.
Obviously I don't want to spend the money on one if it's about to be replaced by a model with better functionality etc.
I know they're only cheap in the US, $15 to $20, but we get ripped-off by Canon in Aus so they are 40 to 50 bucks here... I can think of much better things to spend that much money on than a redundant remote.
Anyone heard anything about a replacement?

Bride: Extreme Closeup

This bride had stunning eyes. I had tried to get shots of them all morning but hadn't gotten anything I was super excited about. Then, after the ceremony, while everyone was decompressing I was looking for great light. I often just walk around looking at light/shadow. I noticed a person come out of the church and realized that all I could see behind them was blackness because the church was so dark. Then I though if I had the bride just stand on the threshold of the door - her eyes would have great catch-lights and there would be 'nothing' behind her.

This shot has ZERO PHOTOSHOP. I have adjusted the light/color/balance in Lightroom of course, but I did not want to take away from the raw realness of the photo. It's very striking I think.

After I took several images of the bride I was wondering how I could really celebrate her beautiful eyes. We tried a couple things using her hand on her face to frame her eyes, but then once we used the bouquet I knew we'd found the shot. The crop at the forehead and the flowers at the nose make the image all about the eyes.

Shot on Canon EOS 6D
f/4.5
1/1600 sec
ISO-320
50mm f/1.4

Thanks for looking. I am a chicago wedding photographer.

Lumix FZ-1000 or Leica V-Lux 114 as Backup camera for Upcoming Trip

I'm planning a visit to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and bringing my 5D3 with the requisite landscape lenses, my SL1 is my backup EF body. I'd like to leave the big whites home and carry a bridge camera. Both the Leica and Lumix (identical specs) fit my bill as 25-400mm zoom with f/4 aperture. Does the Leica have a superior IQ to the Lumix? Is the Leica being a crippled version of the Lumix make it less desirable given the $450 premium price? I'd like to hear ONLY from those who have shot either or both bridge cameras.

Bride, Overcast, Cold, Natural Light

Another bride to share from 2014 - it was about 35 degrees, we were all freezing in Indianapolis. The bride liked these bronze doors, we jumped out of the trolley and snapped some shots. It was completely overcast with no visible directional light. Normally I would add light in a situation like this, but it was so cold it was hard to operate (and did I mention it was extremely windy as well.)

My New "L"

I just received my second "L" lens. Nothing sexy, at least for the audience here, but I needed a standard zoom to compliment my used 5D. Just received a new 24-105L for $650. I'm impressed with the build quality and am excited to give it a workout this weekend. It's a white box, but that's okay for me.

Next on my list is to upgrade my EF-S 60 to the EF 100L macro.

Based on test results, size, other attributes (range, external vs internal TC) and price, if you were in the market for a lens of this type, which would you buy? The new 100-400 or the 200-400 1.4?

My first results with the Canon 100-400 II

I have the new Canon 100-400II now for about 1 week and so far, the test results are excellent.

The lens also takes the 1.4x extender with hardly any negative effect on the image quality. below is a shot with the 1.4x extender.

Canon EOS-1D C Coming Down in Price Again?

HTML:
<p>It looks like Canon Hong Kong has dropped the price of the Canon EOS-1D C down to what coverts to $7000USD. Will we see this sort of price decrease in Europe or North America? Only time will tell.</p>
<p><strong>From EOSHD

</strong><em>“According to <a href="http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/7709-canon-1d-c-used-price-slips-under-%C2%A35000-and-why-i-decided-to-take-the-gamble-and-get-one/?page=8">EOSHD forum member Fabuloux</a>, whose local dealer now sells the 1D C for HKD 54,000 ($7000 US dollars) the low price is a result of Canon lowering the official list price to $61,999 HK dollars. Sure enough you can view the new price on the official Canon Hong Kong website <a href="http://www.canon.com.hk/en/product/catalog/productItemDetails.do?prrfnbr=200477">here</a>.  That is now MUCH closer to the RRP in Hong Kong of the plain old 1D X, which sells for $44,000 ($5700 US dollars).”</em><strong>
