Help needed: 6D stays "black" after Firmware upgrade

I need some help, please:
As I read, there is an new 6D-firmware. I tried to get it on my 6D. There was the success-message after updating. I took 2 shots after updating. But after restarting (switch off and on again), the 6D stays black.
No reaction after starting on the display, no reaction if I press any button.
I tried to downgrade to the 1.1.4 firmware, but nothing happened.
There is just an small white dot for one second on the lower left display

Is there anything I can do to get this problem fixed? Or do I have to send it to CPS?

Thanks

EOS 5D Mark III Replacement Talk [CR2]

HTML:
<p>We’re told that the next EOS 5D will come in three different versions. Two of the cameras named “EOS 5Ds” would be the high megapixel cameras with a resolution of 53mp. One of the cameras would have an AA filter and other would not. We’ve heard this sort of thing before, <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/11/another-50mp-ff-dslr-mention-cr2/" target="_blank">except the language used previously was one camera would have a low pass filter, and the other would not.</a> I do like the naming “EOS 5Ds”, as that may finally put to rest the “EOS 3D” moniker which has been around longer than this site has. There is also precedent on the “S” naming from the days of the “EOS-1D” and “EOS-1DS”.</p>
<p>The third camera would be an EOS 5D Mark IV, which would continue on the path of a lower megapixel event, sports, wildlife focused full frame camera. If this is true, I don’t believe all 3 cameras would come at the same time.</p>
<p>For the time being, there are no plans for a high resolution EOS-1 body style. However, expect the build quality of any 5D replacement to be top notch.</p>
<p>Personally, if they don’t make a high resolution EOS-1D style body, I do hope that a “5Ds” has the top plate of an EOS-1D.</p>
<p>More to come…</p>

Ice sculptures - any tips?

At the end of this month I will attend an exhibition of Ice sculptures. It is a rather big exhibition hall (6,500 m2) with artificial light and it is rather dark. The temperature will be minus 8 Celsius.
I was planning to use following gear:
- - 6D with 35mm f/2 IS with B+W CPOL HTC MRC Käsemann Nano XS-Pro Digital 67mm
- - Tripod and remote control RS80-N3
- - ……I wonder if I should take my 70-200 f/2.8…. (For that I have a Hoya HD Circular Polarization Filter 77mm)
- - ….or take the 135mm (for that I have Hoya HMC CIR Polarizing filter 72mm)
I think a circular polarization filter is a must because of the reflection of the ice and the artificial lights used to give the sculptures special effects. But using it at 24mm and below does give me some effects on my FF that I don’t want. So I was planning to leave my 16-35 f/4 at home also because the aperture is rather slow (the CPOL already takes 1 to 1,5 stop light – I guess) I am not sure if I can successfully setup my tripod since it may be crowded. Though the exhibition is running since December 6th last year and ends one day after my visit. Maybe it will be less crowded….
I will take an extra battery and keep it on my body. Because I understand that the battery may run down faster in that cold. So I don’t take a chance to be there without a spare one.
I will also take an extra memory card. Just to make sure.
I will dress warm – of course – and will bring some gloves.
I wonder how to prepare or what tips can you give me. What do you think?

How do I improve this picture?

So I shot this picture yesterday. The moon comes up from behind a Jamun tree (Syzygium cumini; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syzygium_cumini) and there is a place where it is visible from my veranda.

I shot it hand held with the 7D2, 100-400L @400, 1/160, f/5.6, ISO 6400. I thought it would come out great but it is just passable. What do you think I need to do to make it better?

Look forward to your critique and suggestions.

Thanks for looking.

Review: Canon EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

HTML:
<p>Dustin Abbott, a friend of the site, has completed his review of the brand new Canon EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM.</p>
<p>People ask a lot if the EF 24-105 f/4L IS is going to stick around in the lineup, especially now that this lens is available. I don’t have an answer for that, but there’s 3 options in this focal range now if you also include the very good EF 24-70 f/4L IS. This lens is now kitted with the EOS 6D and I suspect it’s going to be a kit option with all future non EOS-1 full frame cameras.</p>
<p><strong>From the review

</strong><em>“I’m rarely a fan of variable aperture lenses, but the reality is that almost all consumer grade zooms are variable aperture. It is this concession that allows them to be lighter and cheaper. That aside, this lens provides solid optics, great image stabilization, and fast, quiet focus.  It is a lens that I believe will make more and more sense as Canon introduces it as a kit bundled with cameras at a lower price point and as Canon’s next generation of full frame camera bodies add the technology that can fully utilize this lens.” <strong><a href="http://dustinabbott.net/2015/01/canon-ef-24-105mm-f3-5-5-6-is-stm-review/" target="_blank">Read the full review</a></strong></em></p>

Rokinon 14mm vs 24mm for night photography

I was thinking about upgrading to 6d from my current 60d + Rokinon 16mm f2 for astro. I have rented the 6d and attached the 16mm to it but the vignette is to much...which leads me to my dilemma...I have heard good things about the 14mm 2.8, and a good price point. But with the 24mm 1.4 I can utilize my Lee Foundation kit and big stopper for other than night shots, where as with 14mm's bulbulous lens I can not utilize filters. But is the 24mm wide enough for night astro on the 6d? I don't want to purchase the 24 1.4 and wish I had wider....words of wisdom please....

Help needed with filters for my 70D 18-135mm IS STM

So I took a leap into more serious digital waters the other day. I have lots of Canon film bodies and lenses (don't we all) but in digital I was a PowerShot mid guy (owned 4) also Nikon CoolPix mid. So this 70D for me is a huge jump and so far very pleased. Now my question is filters and the quality/cost ratio as I'm not yet a "L" glass owner. I'm looking at B+W (I always want to say B&W as I'm huge audiophile) but of course they're pricier then the Hoya, Tiffen equivalent. I understand it's about "the glass" but what is the sweet spot for value as I don't have wads of cash to splash around. I'm considering this for my 18-135mm starter lens above a: Polarizer/UV & ND Vario or ND 1.8 to start. Take it easy on me as my desire for art transcends my current knowledge ! Thanks in advance for your input....

How long does Canon repair usually take??

Sent my lens in to Canon for repair (calibration, not physical damage) and approved the out of warranty repair charge on 12/17. Sure there were holiday days in there for Christmas and New Years, but it seems to be taking quite a long time for a calibration. Even with 3 holiday days in there I'm already at 12 business days with zero communication.

The online repair lookup tool simply says "you have approved your repair", and it's said that since the 17th.

I am not a CPS member, I had considered joining the gold level before I sent my lens in, now regretting that I didn't since they have no regard for quoted timeframes unless you're CPS.

Is this typical??

Rumored 11-24mm f/4 true or feint?

It would make so much sense for Canon to follow up the 16-35mm f/4 IS with a spectacular, long anticipated response to Nikon's 14-24mm 2.8 that I wonder if the rumored 11-24mm might actually go to f/2.8.

I ALMOST gave in and bought the 16-35mm f/4 IS because I despaired of getting anything this wide or wider AND faster. But I keep hoping that something great in 2.8 will finally be produced. I'm sure marketing at Canon wants to sell as many of whatever is available now and not have us delaying a purchase for an even bigger expenditure at some unspecified time in the future.

(I'd kick myself black and blue if I bought the f/4 and then something in f/2.8 was officially announced a few months later. But boy oh boy, my version one of the 16-35mm is getting long in the tooth.)

Another f/4, at triple the price, even if wider, just doesn't make sense to those of us who are begging for something that is great for both landscape/still-lifes AND events in one lens. I'd love to be able to compose sharp off-center, especially if distortion can be tamed a bit. Even if I am putting a face near center, please don't say "nobody cares about the edges in such pics." I do!

Still hopeful.

Samyang/Rokinon vs. straight lines.

Once upon a time we metered TTL (Through The Lens) exposure while diapragh was stopped down. Of sourse, we focused manually before stopping down, otherwise the focus was very difficult to judge. Then came F TTL, then came automatic exposure, then autofocus and now the cameras go 'click' if somebody smiles and they also crop the portrait for you...
Well, Rokinon is from the old school. I have the 14mm f/2.8 on my 5DIII. It is not the handiest lens to use. You bracket a lot and look at the histogram. Then you come home and look at the wave formed distortion and take care of it with the dedicated lens profile on LR.
You get a nice result finally and it came cheap.

Does anyone here have experience of the 12 mm f/2.0 on the APS-C sensor? What would be your recommendation? Is it as quirky as the FF 14mm?

Here is a shot from today in the mountains just before the rain came.

Difference in image from APS-C to FF

I am looking at going to FF from APS-C and i am curious as to how my images will look different. I know that image quality and noise will be better but i would like to see the same image taken on a FF and crop body. I currently have a 70D and i am very pleased with it but all this talk of FF being so much better as me curious. I would love for some one that has both a FF and crop body to take images with both of the same subject. thank you in advance.

Kodak's first smartphone. Will Canon follow?

Kodak has announced a release of its first IM5 Android smartphone with 13 MPx camera rear camera. Seems like a simple to use phone and apparently it comes with quite attractive price of $249.

http://www.cnet.com/products/kodak-im5/

I was thinking about all conversations here on CR discussing how smartphones are stealing the market from P&S cameras. If Kodak starts selling smartphones, will Canon eventually do the same?

Canon 28-300L 'super-zoom'

What do you think?

Is the Canon 28-300L (from 2004 if I'm not mistaken) a safe buy or will some update or new 'super-zoom' be seeing the light of day anytime soon?

(It's a heavy investment, for me at least, if a new version is close. And I obviously wouldn't like to make a wrong move with this kind of price-tag. I'm looking to fit it on a 5D3)

Thanks in advance, and happy 2015 :)

Best monopod/tilt head combo for $200~ ?

I recently purchased the new 100-400L II, and while I can hand hold it for long periods of time with no issue, I would prefer some support.

I am looking for a monopod with a tilt head that is ArcaSwiss compatible, and costs right around $200 or so. $250 would probably be my absolute ceiling. It would need to fairly rugged and be able to withstand the elements because most, if not all of its use would be outdoors.

I'm not a tall person at 5'7", so it doesn't have to be super tall, but I would like the option to get it to atleast eye level, if not a little taller. Must be able to hold the weight of the 100-400L II and a 5D3, and it would be preferred if it could hold the extra weight that comes with a grip and TC that I plan to add to my kit as well.

Weight is of no concern to me, assuming they don't make ones that weight 10lbs ;)
Collapsed length I would prefer to be no longer than 18 inches, a bit shorter would be better though.

Thank you all in advance.
