Profeel.com has 7Dii bodies with and without lenses in stock

Just thought I would throw this out there, I actually bought my Canon 7Dii last Wednesday and had it here in Hawaii by Saturday. My buddy also got one from them and it arrived on Friday. They are legit and have both with and without kit lenses. I usually by nearly all my gear from B&H but sometimes if there is a hot camera out there, they seem to be able to get them out there before everyone else backlogged with pre-orders.

Call them up, tell them Michael sent you- they will ship it out same day of your order whenever they can.

BTW- I am not compensated in any way for this referral, I just know how sucky it can be waiting:

Sony A7S Review - EosHD

http://www.eoshd.com/2014/10/sony-a7s-review-part-2-conclusion/

The Sony A7S is the first camera to really beat the Canon 5D Mark III across the board at almost every level for both stills and video, especially the latter. The A7R did not have the video quality to rival the Canon, but the A7S is a different proposition altogether and raises the bar to another level, possibly signalling the end of DSLR domination in this area at the same time. I can think of no reason to shoot on stock Canon 5D Mark III video settings when you can shoot XAVC-S on the A7S.

1dc = Free beer

Funny story to share. I was in the walking street at Pattaya with my 1dc and 85mm trying to get photos and went for dinner.
The waiter was fascinated by the camera, started playing with it and soon the manager joined in. I ended up teaching them back button focusing. They googled the camera and were so impressed that they sent me beers on the house.
hahaha.

B+W filter advice

Hello,

Thanking of buying B+W 82 010 UV Haze MRC Nano for the canon 24-70 f/2.8L II , and was wondering if you can help me with these questions :( :

is it adding any vignetting ?

what are the main difference between: nano, slim and standard?
B+W 82mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter
B+W 82mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter
B+W 82mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter

Do the lens caps and hood fit with the B+W nano filters or with which filter works the best please? ( as i know some filters cant hold the lens cap and hoods)

Thank you for all your help!

Real-World Resolving-Power?... FF, APS-C/H, Extenders?..

In short: What are the best solutions regarding ultimate resolving power, looking at real world results cropped to display the same subject at the same size?

I'm asking because after a bit of questionably-scientific-ish testing, I'm not sure the 70D shoots any more detailed images than the 5D3, despite cramming so many more pixels into any given area.

Obviously the resolving power of the lens will play a part here but I'm wondering if there's maybe a pixel size/density tipping point where adding more just becomes redundant - counterproductive, even?.. and if it lies somewhere between FF and APS-C, possibly around APS-H territory?

As of today I'm considering trading in the 70D and being done with anything APS-C outside of the SL1 and M, where the obvious pros keep me content with their existence!

As an amateur/advancing Birder and Wildlife & Animal Portrait shooter I'm wondering if those times I've opted for the 70D over the 5D3 "for reach" when I could possibly have used the latter with much greater ISO usability and therefore faster shutter etc. was a counterproductive measure? What are my options here?..

Is there any merit to considering a 1.4x III extender and 5D3 over a crop body to achieve greater actual resolving power?

Would the 1D IV possibly be a contender for best resolving Canon body?

Is the a7R (and whatever Nikon uses it) actually the best there is? I hear it's considered pretty sharp!

Is the 7D II up to much in this area that the 70D isn't? Apparently it'll have cleaner high ISO results due to microlenses or something, but is this likely to make it produce sharper images with the same lenses?

I know lots of lenses aren't considered up to resolving high pixel density sensors but I've heard people pushing the argument here recently about the engineering of APS-C sensors just not making them "as good" as similar density on larger sensors - though I'm yet to really get myself educated on that front...

No particular question, just insight and opinions sought!
1D IV? Mk III extenders? 7D2? APS-H? FF? SONY/NIKON?

I think I might consider dropping the 70D for either a 1D IV, a 1.4x III or both...
Also, where would you place the 10mp 1D III in all this, considering it can be had for around the 20mp 70D price?

I'll be back. Play nice!

Canon to Continue Using Canon Sensors in DSLRs

A very good source told me that the upcoming multi-layer, Foveon-like sensors that was mentioned in a rumor weeks ago will be made by Sony. I give the rumor of a Sony-made Foveon sensor a good possibility to be true. This sensor is said to be featured in two new pro-grade cameras that will be announced in Q1 2015.

Beside that this rumor comes from one of my best sources, I think it is plausible. It would not be the first time that Canon mounts a sensor made by Sony on their cameras. Even if there is no evidence, it is almost sure that the new Canon Powershot G7 X sports a Sony sensor.

On the other hand, it is a bit disappointing. Canon has research labs and production facilities, and I would prefer if they go on making sensors on their own instead of getting them from others. Especcially if Canon makes more excellent sensors like the one featured on the EOS 7D Mark II.

What do you think?

What happened to the "flare-cut diaphragm"?

The current Canon EF 28/1.8 has what Canon calls a "flare-cut diaphragm" (or something like that). It is visible in most product shots of that lens. I also believe that the long-discontinued Canon EF 28-80/2.8-4 L had one of these retro-installed after complaints were received about its tendency to flare. To the best of my knowledge, no other Canon SLR lens has such a thing. Anyone know why? Seems like a good idea ...

You can see the 28/1.8 product shot here from B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/102851-USA/Canon_2510A003_Wide_Angle_EF_28mm.html

Canon 400 f/2.8L IS mk1 v mk2

I'm looking to purchase a 400 2.8L IS within the next year or so, and I'm trying to decide between the current II version and the original. I'd appreciate comments from anyone who's used both. I'm wondering if it's true that image quality between the two generations is basically the same -- something mentioned in a lot of reviews of the new model that I found. Seems to me like weight and the IS system are really the only major differences.

Reviewing my lens setup (5D3 portraits)

Long time reader, first time poster. So, the first post better be a long one... :)

Two weeks ago my Canon 24-105L had an error 01 on my 5D3. No amount of cleaning contacts would make it work. (Disabling IS it could shoot again, but with exposure +/-3 stops on manual. Now and then with dark viewfinder and hunting focus). Of cause it happened on the first of 11 studio photoshoots that weekend...

I really liked my lens lens setup (for the price), and with the 24-105 as my most used lens it would seem logical to replace it with a new one. Searching the web shows it's not an uncommon error, making me hesitate buying a new one.

I made this topic to get your views on my lens setup, and maybe a couple of suggestions.

My primary photographic interest is to photograph children, mostly 0-4 years. I have a studiosetup with Elinchrom flashes and have always used the 24-105L for this. Outside the studio i mostly shoot with primes, but currently its in the studio with powerfull lights i make some money.
I shot a wedding recently and really enjoyed it. I borrowed a 5D2, an extra 24-105L and a 85L from a friend. So far i have two weddings planed for next year, but would like more for the future.
The rest of my uses counts family photos, especially my son at 2 years, and now and then a bit of landscapes.

For the last year i've had the following lenses, paired with my highly regarded 5D3:
24-105L F4: Used for almost halv my photos. Perfect for the studio and fine for landscape. Not a lens that gets me excited in any way.
40mm 2.8 Pancake: I like it as a light walkaround lens, and for indoor shooting, especially in low light. Would often like it a bit wider though.
50mm 1.8: Doesn't get used much. Mostly with some Kenko extension tubes for cheap makro.
85mm 1.8: Doesn't get used much. I like it indoor for children playing, but...
135L F2: I just love this lens! Use it for almost all my outdoor work and play. And for indoor headshots. Actually, I choose this lens whenever it makes the slightest sense, and then some more :)
In general I think the 24-135mm covers my uses nicely. Sometimes 200mm or so would be nice, but i rarely wish for wider than 24mm.

For the next years i'd like to shoot some more weddings, and shoot children in "their" homes and natural surroundings. With this in mind I bought a Tamron 24-70 2.8 when my 24-105L broke. I do find the AF quite inconsistent, dislike the zoom ring going counter of Canon, having to turn the ring that much to zoom between 50-70mm, the onionrings, and will therefore return it to the shop. It seems a bit decenteret too.

So, what are my options?? Of cause i'd like the 24-70 2.8 ii, but it's a bit above budget. I can swap the Tamron for a used Canon 24-70 2.8 i, buy a new 24-105 (but hate the risk of another error 01), buy a 24-70 F4 IS or...?
I thought of buying a Canon 70-200 F4 (IS) for studio and a lot of outdoor work, and compliment it with a 35 F2 IS, perfect for group shots and indoor events. I also thought of the 70-200 F2.8 variants, but their weights concerns me, and i might have to sell the 135L to fund it - which would be very hard. And I would still need something better for studio.

The biggest issue right now are the studio shots. The 40 and 50mm can be used for group shots, but AF are too slow for children at play. I analysed the latest 1400 studioshots of 24-105L, and i used these focal lengths:
-40mm 1.64%
40-49mm 16.39%
50-59 24.51%
60-69 17.72%
70-79 8.82%
80-89 16.63%
90-99 6.25%
100-105 8.04%
Thats 60% less than 70mm, and 40% above. Sometimes 105-150mm would be usefull, but its far easier to crop in post, than to add half a leg :)

Hope you nice guys will give some feedback on where to go from here
Best regards, Martin (Denmark)

One Samsung Camera to Rule Them All

Samsung is making a statement with the recently announced NX1, and that statement is, “pros, we’re ready for you.” Up till now, any pros who wanted to use Samsung gear — and there are some that do — have had to settle for prosumer bodies designed more for the first time buyer than the seasoned pro.

With the introduction of the NX1, that status quo is no more, and a little bit of time with this incredibly powerful new body drives that point home splendidly.

We only had about 25 to 30 minutes to play around with the camera during our meeting with Samsung at PhotoPlus, but you don’t need more than a few minutes to realize that this camera is Samsung’s crown jewel.

Hi,

Canon is expected to release new FF bodies.
At your personal point of view. What is the body you would like to see in the next months with which specs and news?
I would like a 6D2 mixed from 6D and 70D and you?

Regards

PHOTO PLUS EXPO 2014 NYC "WHO WENT & WHAT DID YOU LEARN"

I WENT TOO THE EXPO WEDNESDAY "SET UP DAY"
AND WAS ONLY ABLE TOO GO TODAY "A RAINY SATURDAY" BUT MET SOME COOL SHOOTERS
PICKED CANON'S BRAINS ABOUT HOW TOO SHOOT CERTAIN STUFF WITH THE NEW 7D MARK 2 "funny how everywhere i went today in the expo everybody was like how did u get so fast there hard too find & get" i was aggressive went too beach camera warehouse in central nj at Edison NJ and got a kit package with the stm lens lol
but umm i learned that sony, samsung, panasonic and nikon have edges over CANON big time in there cameras and some of there lenses that available and that are coming in the next 6-8 months
canon needs too wake up i cant believe the mirrorless cameras where so cool and fast and small "there trade off are they are not durable 1-2 drops and water damage and they might be done" i know everybody wants 4K video but only a few form what i played got it down packed
SO WHAT DID U LEARN FROM PLAYING WITH CANON AND THE OTHER BRANDS??
what can canon do too even catch up in certain areas

A Bit About the Modular DSLR Rumor

HTML:
<p>I have been reading the comments about the <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/10/modular-dslr-coming-from-canon-cr2/" target="_blank">modular DSLR rumor posted here a few days ago</a> and I wanted to clarify what I meant by “modular” a little bit.</p>
<p>I don’t think we’re going to get a camera that is fully modular, such as swapping out image sensors and that sort of thing. I think we’re going to see a camera that can maybe swap between an optical and electronic viewfinder,  as well as ergonomic changes depending if you’re shooting stills or video. I didn’t get the impression we’d see anything beyond those types of features and that this wasn’t going to be a “professional” level product. The information has been scattered at best so far and we’re just trying to fit it all together.</p>
<p>More to come…</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">c</span>r</strong></p>

Why don't Canon make lenses for other mounts?

Seeing that Sigma makes lenses for all mounts AND also makes its own cameras, why doesn't Canon sell at least some of its lenses in other mounts?

I reckon you could make a good business case for it, as many of the Canon lenses are so coveted by Nikon and Pentax users.
If Canon is being hammered in the sales of bodies (which I doubt), sales of all of these extra lenses would certainly help the bottom line.

Photo Expo 2014

Spent a couple of days at days at Photo Expo 2014 in NYC. Got to meet some of my favorite podcasters and get my canon gear cleaned and checked at the CPS booth. I also got to play with lots of toys from other manufacturers and I have to say Canon put on a pretty poor showing. The mirrorless stuff from Fuji, Panasonic and Olympus is really, really amazing. Cheaper, smaller, full featured with good lenses. Sony just blows everybody else away. The full frame 7 is great but the A6000 is the real star here. $800 bucks with a lens and better resolution than anything on the Canon table?????????? 24MB sensor for $800 and the 5DIII cost $2,000 more?????? for what????? Canon has lost the sensor race. Game over. I put a card in a Nikon D810 and had some really big prints made at the Epson & B&H booths (Canon Printer). WOW!!!!!! Canon is toast. Sony sensors simply beat the pants off them. Look with your own eyes. Canon sensors are not longer in the same conversation.

Broken 7D

Hey, I had my 7d out in a little drizzle today but under a plastic bag. After about 2 hours i lost AF and none of the back or top buttons work.

The camera still works in full auto (green square) on the mode dial, but not in any other mode. The dials both work when i look through the viewfinder but the back LCD won't turn on.

Has anyone experienced this or have any idea to fix it? Thanks.
