Sigma and Tamron OS/VC quirks

I now own two third party stabilized lenses, the sigma 70-200 2.8 EX (there are a lot of letters and I always forget them) and the tamron 150-600. I've noticed a quirk they both exhibit that none of my canon IS lenses do: when the stabilizer engages, the frame tilts down what visually feels like about 5-10°. With the 70-200, it's not that bad, but at 600mm with the tamron, 10° is a lot.

Has anyone else noticed that kind of this happening? What's the explanation? Misalignment in the stabilizing optic? Maybe I'll shoot a video if nobody can picture what I'm seeing.

<p>Canon is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the EOS-1 series, the company’s flagship range of SLR cameras, which began with the launch of the EOS-1 film SLR in 1989. CPN recently got the unique opportunity to talk to two of the key men behind the development of the EOS-1 series and EOS System – Tsunemasa Ohara and Yoshiaki Sugiyama of Canon Inc. in Tokyo. In two exclusive interviews they reveal the secrets behind the historical development of the EOS-1 SLRs</p>
<p>Yoshiaki Sugiyama has worked on the design of Canon SLR systems since 1978, including the T90 (1986), the EOS 650/620 (1987) and the EOS-1 (1989) cameras. CPN spoke to him about the history and development of EOS-1 series SLR designs.</p>

85mm f1/2L II and event photography?

I have always been fond of the output of the 85L II.

But, I have never tried full time deployment for event photography. Has anyone used it for this purpose?

My concerns:
1) Slow autofocus might result in missed shots, such as wedding reception entrances (where people often run or do unexpected maneuvers). I have used my 50mm f/1.2L for this and it seems that this is about as slow as I would want for autofocus, but the 85L II is significantly slower than the 50L.
2) Fragile - the exposed rear element during lens changes, potential of damaging the lens motor (or so I have heard) when lens is placed face down with the barrel extended, and lack of weather sealing - I am wondering if this is the best fit for event photography which often is fast paced, hectic, and unpredictable.

Has anyone deployed this lens for event photography? I love using my 70-200 f/2.8L IS II but f/2.8 is not always fast enough and for portraits the bokeh of 85L II is unmatched. But the build of the 70-200 just seems so much more robust in more ways than one. 135L is an alternative but I do not like the bokeh at f/4 (which would be needed at times) and it is often too long of a focal length indoors. 85 1.8 same issue with bokeh at f/4... can't seem to find better alternative to 24l/50l/70-200 Thoughts?

Sigma 50 1.4 art => outer focus points severe front focussing

Yesterday I received my new Sigma 50 art ;D I immediately tested it (on my 5DIII) and found some shocking results. :'(

I have not calibrated this lens yet. Attached are two pictures, both taken at f/1.4. First picture: I used center AF point. Second picture: I used an AF point on the very far left. I contacted Sigma and they say this is not normal.

What are your experiences? Is this likely to be a fault with this single lens or do all sigma 50 art's suffer from this issue?

Thanx!
Niels

<p>The previous post about the EOS M3 was not supposed to go live, something went wrong with the WordPress app with my phone. Whenever I receive an email, I automatically make a post and save it. If it’s publishable, I do so. This time, it published and I didn’t want it to.</p>
<p>Sorry about that, the embarrassment is the punishment.</p>

<p><strong>*Update*

</strong>We’re told the new Samyang lens will actually be a 50mm f/1.4. (<em>thanks!</em>)</p>
<p><strong>Original post

</strong>Samyang has started with the teasers for an announcement on August 26, 2014. It is expected that they will announce a  50mm f/2 lens for their VDSLR line.</p>
<p>It doesn’t look like we’ll see their first autofocus lens this time around.</p>

Canon EF24-105mm f4 IS USM time for a refresh?

The Canon EF24-105mm f4 IS USM was launched in 2005 so its nearly ten years old. In that period sensor design has changed dramatically and as this is likely the most standard L zoom sold for full-frame due I think for an update.
The existing lens is good but competition has now caught up and my biggest bug bear with it are the lateral CAs at either end of the zoom range especially the wide end. Yes you shout Lightroom profiles can correct that but I always think at the expense of some definition.
I would also like to see if an internal zooming design could be adopted rather than the front tracking out.

connect ST-E3-RT with Canon SR-N3 cable?

Im desperately trying to connect my ST-E3-RT to my canon 1Dx with a Canon SR-N3 cable. I have tried linked mode and the flash simply will not work. Is this possible? Im trying to do this because I'll have to make an hour drive to the nearest camera store to be able to buy a bracket to put my flashes on and put the ST-E3-RT in the hot shoe and id like to avoid it. I have a light bar bracket that I would like to put where the hot shoe it

Tamron 150-600mm bird pics

I have been on holiday in Canada for two weeks, walking with my Tamron 150-600mm and 5DIII. The birds are difficult to find - you suddenly come across small birds who will be around for a few seconds or minutes and then disappear. To get any photos you need a portable, reasonably long lens that you can swing into action in seconds. The birds are often hiding in bushes and you need IS for long exposures. My 300mm f/2.8 II + 2xTC III would have been the best solution, but the Tamron 150-600mm was more than good enough and more suitable for a holiday combining a family visit with the odd day for birding. Those knockers who have dismissed the Tamron in favour of a 400mm f/5.6L + 1.4xTC would have been completely stranded without IS - one of the exposures was as low as 1/50s and many in the 1/250 range. The 100-400mm would have been too short. The exifs are on the photos, which are all 100% crops, ie 1 pixel on the image = 1 pixel on the uncropped full frame. I was pleased with the haul. Most of the photos were in the Hammonds Plain area of Halifax NS.
The first 4: Canada Warbler 1/50s, Cedar waxwing, Black-capped chickadee, Ovenbird.

Please post images of your own from the 150-600mm Tammy.

Development Announcement of a New 800mm f/5.6L IS II [CR1]

HTML:
<div style="float: right; margin:0 0 76px 0px;"><a href="https://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-count="vertical" data-url="http://www.canonrumors.com/?p=17057">Tweet</a></div>
<p>We received a short and sweet message that a development announcement for an EF 800 f/5.6L IS II is slated for 2014, but it wasn’t confirmed if it would come with the rest of the Photokina announcements.</p>
<p><strong>CR’s Take

</strong>The talk of a new 800mm lens has been around for a while, and I imagine its release has everything to do with how soon stock of the current lens is depleted. It makes little sense to produce the lens with different materials than the 300mm, 400m, 500mm and 600mm lenses.</p>
<p>Unknown source, so take this with the usual grain of salt.</p>

Lens to body pairing

Hi Folks.
I am going to the Bournemouth air festival, for those that don't know it is a free display with the aircraft flying over the coast, no access to parked aircraft as far as I am aware.
I would like to know the thoughts of those wiser than myself on which lens to put with which body for best image quality?
My thoughts are:-

Bodies lenses
7D With EF 70-200 f2.8 IS II with or without EF 2X III depending on how close or far the planes are.
40D With Sigma 150-500 f5-6.3 DG OS HSM

Please could I have your thoughts on whether this is right or wrong!
Is it worth having the extra camera just for the extra 100mm?
I am looking to get a Black Rapid Double for carrying both, as it converts neatly to a single too when I only want to carry one body. Thoughts on that?
Anyone been and able to tell me if I will need the 2X III on the 70-200 or not?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Cheers Graham.
