State-of-the-art optical design technology delivers superior image quality.

The advanced optical construction of this lens includes four elements of LD (Low Dispersion) glass, three Molded-Glass Aspherical elements, one Hybrid Aspherical element, one XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass element, and one element of UXR (Ultra-Extra Refractive Index) glass, which has greater refractive index than XR. The full use of specialized glass elements in its design contributes to making this outstanding lens as compact and lightweight as possible, while minimizing aberrations, resulting in superior image quality. Particularly impressive is the thorough compensation of chromatic aberrations at the telephoto end, yielding images of enhanced clarity and crispness.

Focus on portability – The lens is now even smaller and lighter.

In addition to state-of-the-art optical design that facilitates downsizing of the lens body, the mechanical design leads to a smaller overall lens compared to the existing Tamron 28-300mm (Model A20). The incorporation of a highly sophisticated multi-stack-cam layout that takes up far less space as well as the PZD (Piezo Drive) AF, an autofocus drive system with a simpler, more compact structure, make it possible to reduce the overall dimensions of this lens. These technologies are the fruit of Tamron’s more than 20 years of research and development in the high-power zoom lens field.

Advanced anti-reflection coating.

The application of BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings for suppressing reflections on lens element surfaces minimizes unwanted flare and ghosting to deliver sharp, crisp, high-contrast images.

Upgraded cosmetic design – Elegant tungsten silver brand ring.

Tamron has upgraded the cosmetic design and finish of this lens to create a more sophisticated, high-end look in keeping with the demands of discerning full-frame DSLR users. Employing a sophisticated linear pattern rubber grip on the zoom and focus rings and an elegant tungsten silver brand ring, this newly designed model accentuates its visceral presence with understated elegance and class.

PZD (Piezo Drive) delivers faster, quieter autofocus action.

The PZD (Piezo Drive), a standing-wave ultrasonic motor system, delivers faster, quieter, more precise action when the autofocus is engaged. The full-time manual focus system is easy and intuitive, enabling quick and convenient manual focus at any time.

Sharper images with VC (Vibration Compensation)

Tamron’s acclaimed VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism reduces image blur caused by camera shake to deliver significantly sharper images even when shooting handheld.

Circular diaphragm facilitates achieving spectacular blur effects

Using a circular diaphragm[4], this lens achieves spectacular background blur effects that enable creative use of depth of field

Moisture-resistant construction for worry-free outdoor shooting.

Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.

Ricoh GR - 28mm

So I bought this little black box of a camera to take over from my 5dM3 for photography - something that was a bit more manoeuvrable and subtle. Also has focus snap, so you can define the focus distance - so built in zone focussing!

Here's a selection of some of my stuff over the last couple of weeks of ownership.

Canon FD 500mm f/4.5 L drop-in filter

Hi guys!
I have a question for those who know about FD lenses. I've been trying to find a ND filter for my alod Canon FD 500mm f/4.5 L. This lens has a compartment for filters, but is not the gelatin kind but glass made. It has a 48mm diameter and it can be screwed in and out of the tray.
I have attached pictures so you can understand better.
My question is: could I buy a normal 48mm ND filter to use with this lens instead of buying the holder again? Has been really hard to find the original parts and I've had lucky with polarizers only.

Hope someone can help me.
Many thanks!

DSLR vs Mirrorless :: Evolution of cameras

Okay to all the gurus here, I am a bit eager to know to where is this technology going? First, I am not a pro but an enthusiastic photographer like many others out there. Since DSLR’s & glass are expensive, I heard that glass should be where the investment should go. But I find it changing now with the mirroless. Small form factor compared to DSLR body and lenses. Why should I buy more or invest in more lens while mirrorless lens would be the future due to their small form factor. For sure giants telephoto lenses is a different league of its own, so I would exclude those users.

Mostly I hear is that mirrorless is no doubt the future. And with the likes of Fuji XT-1 and Sony full frame mirrorless it so much seems to be true. Fuji system has a great road map for their native lenses and is very popular among many amateur and some pro photographers alike.

Apart of my concern in which technology of lenses to invest in, i am also confused that if Mirrorless is really the future then why are the likes of Canon and Nikon not serious about it like the way Fuji is? And plus how come Sigma, Canon & Nikon are still releasing fine good lenses and upgrading them?

If I can travel with Fauji XT-1 and some XF lenses such as 35mm1.4, 56mm 1.2, UWA 10-24 F4 OIS, 14mm 2.8 etc then why on earth should I invest in DSLR or these new lenses being released by canon, sigma etc while I get a huge advantage on other things while only sacrificing a very little in quality or any other feature?

Roadmap of Fuji Lens: (pretty neat I would say)

What do you all think, please share your thoughts and shed some light.

Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L vs. Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS

I have a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens that I have had for a while now and I used to be able to hand hold the sucker with no problems as far as getting sharp images. Call it getting older but I really can't do it anymore and I am missing a lot of shots due to the lack of IS. I know I could use a mono or tripod but that's kind of defeating the purpose of being agile.

I don't have the funds to spend on the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II lens so the next best thing would be the Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS. Would it be a bad thing to sell my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens and use the funds towards the Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS? Is there things my 2.8 L can do better than the 4 L IS version?

Thanks in advance!

Patent: Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS STM

<g:plusone size="tall" count="1" href="http://www.canonrumors.com/?p=16734"></g:plusone>

A new patent for an EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 STM has appeared. Also in the patent is the EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS STM, so this patent is probably just covering an additional optical formula that will not become a product. I’d think any 100-400 replacement will be an L lens with an Ultrasonic Motor instead of an STM.

35L vs 35/2 IS

I've been thinking about the 35L for years but never really pulled the trigger. I am now about to either trade my 50L (which I don't use that often anymore) for a 35L or keep the 50L and get the 35/2 IS instead. Then perhaps sell it and go for the 35L II (whenever that one will be introduced)

Anyway...I like what I've seen so far from the 35/2 IS and reviews seem to confirm this. Photozone really likes it and I've always trusted their opinions. And IS can be quite useful for creative stuff such as motion blur.

Is there anyone here who has compared the two?

Ps. Not interested in the SIGMA so this is strictly a canon thing...

ND Filter in software

Hello Canon Gurus,

I have been listening to some photography Podcasts. They have been talking about the wonders of Neutral Density (ND) filters and how they speed up time, and cause wonderful blur, and on and on.

So my question, isn't this the inverse of what we get with ISO Sensitivity? "Not enough crank up the ISO".

Is it possible to Apply an ND filter at the firmware level?

Below are some points sent to me by someone who says they have spoken to a person who has shot with the EOS 7D Mark II. Some of the points are a bit vague, but could bring about better information in the near future.

This is the first I’ve heard about a megapixel count being “quite high”, It has been expected the camera would be around 24mp.

Below is a direct quote of what we were told.

Quite high MP count

Vastly improved AF performance

Greatly improved low light and ISO/noise performance

Potentially a different sensor and/or technology than expected

Good price point

Very close to ‘pro’ classification, but non-compete with flagship such as 1dx

Release by Fall season as expected

Canon holding back 7Dmk2 for a reason. I suspect 100-400 mk2 announcement, or some other coinciding situation.

Animals at Night

I will try to kick off a new thread and see if it goes anywhere. This was taken last weekend during the summer Saturday night opening at Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. There is a wall where lots of wild bark scorpions live and visitors and docents are usually there with black lights to find them (since scorpions fluoresce under black light).

Canon 5D3, Sigma 85 1.4 lens, 1/80 second at f3.2, iso 3200, tripod.

HELP... Can anyone show me how to edit like this?

Hello
I love taking pictures for fun and lately have been trying to learn more about editing pictures (not going pro or making money off of this). I have watched a lot of "How To" videos on YouTube but haven't found any on how to edit pictures like the ones in this link. Can any Pro out there show me how? Thank you so much.

I shoot with 5D mark iii/ 24-70 f2.8 L mark ii// 50 mm f1.2L///

The pictures in this link is amazing and I love how the pictures were edited!!!!

London Walkaround

Currently in London being a good tourist and helping the global economy. Brought my Rebel SL1, EF-S 10-22, and EF-S 15-85 IS. Everything fits in a small shoulder and is a delight to carry around all day. Don't really need anything else and the IQ is more than satisfactory. Less is more???

What equipment would YOU choose for a week in London?

Looking to replace my 5D Mark II with either the 6D or 70D. Please Help!

I need some real world advice on which is a better camera for my needs. I shoot mostly short interviews for a celebrity site here in LA. I also do walk and talks with a host as we get set tours from actors or maybe sometimes follow bands and fashion designers.
I also do a small amount of head-shots mostly in natural daylight areas. I'm hoping to do some sports photography in my spare time. I have professional L series lenses for my interviews. I use my Zeiss 85mm 1.4 for my head-shots or portraits. Take note I will be getting the Panasonic GH4 that shoots 4K and 96 FPS slo mo for all my high end video needs.
I really like the full frame sensor of the 6D for photos but also love the Auto-focus feature on the 70D and the fact that its a slightly newer camera. I am not a pixel peeper and don't care about this and that stats or numbers. Most my photos will be printed out on 8x11 for head-shots or on the web. I do not do large commercial print work. Most of my video interviews are shot in 1080 24p for web based sites.
I seem to really like the video features of the 70D which is the bulk of my work and really like that it costs about $700 less than the 6D. I'm wondering if I will get much better photos from the 6D that will be worth the price because I'm pretty sure the video features in the 70D are better for me. Please give me honest real world thoughts and not a bunch of statistics. I get one is full frame and one is cropped but will that really matter on a simple head-shot?

AF Performance 70D variying from lens to lens - Anybody else this problem?

I recognized that my 70D´s AF performance and accuracy varies from lens to lens.
The German "Color Foto" magazine compared the AF perfomrance and accuracy between some Cams (SLR, MLils,...) and between some lenses. There the 70D was no winner.... It perfomred best with the Sigma 18-35, worst with the 50mm Macro... (Lesser than half of all shots were sharp. NEX-7´s shots were over 90% sharp...
Ok. I read the test and was a little bit disappointed. I see thath some lenses perform better, some worser on the 70D. Noteable: mirorless Cams are most superior to the SLR (in this price class)

My question: I´d like to know, why my 70D´s AF performance varies so much, using 3 different 70-200 2.8L lenses when I shoot moving objects? I rented 2 from my clubfriends, one I own by myself. Mine was fast and mostly sharp, one was better (more sharp pictures), one noteably worser. But why?

200mm 1.8 L is the better press acreditation but EOS M isn't

I went to some of the Hockey games of the world cup currently held at The Hague.
Only one guy walking around there with the long whites, all Nikon black...

I'm not a pro photographer and my knowledge about hockey is that it is usually played by humans in skirts carrying a stick in front of them.... So I went there as a spectator for the fun and for pictures of my family enjoying the game... still I got 2 times routed to the press area based on having the 200mm 1.8L mounted.

By the way that happened years ago already at a Bundesliga soccer match to me. (Got kicked out of the paparazzi area when I asked one of the pros which number Klinsmann was wearing)

This time I could not help myself but replacing the 60D I had at the 200mm with a red EOS M (lead to the same result as my Klinsmann question)

Anybody got similar 'upgrades' because of white lenses ?
