Camcorder seclection

Hello! Been a while since I have posted, but I have been very busy with the yacht.
www.svunionp.blogspot.com
https://www.facebook.com/svunionp
So what we need is a good complement for our 7D.
I want good video, as good as the 7D, with a good autofocus.

Am I better off going with an older style canon video camera, that can take my lens I have now,
Or going with one of the newer consumer level units.
Usage of camera will be in a marine environment, for close up video blogging, and for action shots, waves crashing on deck, tack changes, ect.
Recommendations? price, sub 1000, the lower the better.

WFT-E6 with Rode VideoMIC Pro gives clicking noise

Hi,

I use a 1DX with WFT-E6 for still photography and it works fine.

Today I made video with the Rode VideoMic Pro plugged straight into the camera and used the EOS Utility to change camera settings and did a bit of recording.
At editing time I noticed that there is a clicking noise on the audio, about two clicks/second.
I removed the WFT-E6 from 1DX, reshot and the clicking noise is gone

Has anybody experienced this as well?

One problem with my 100-400L

I am new to this forum, and I realize there has most likely been tons of discussion about soft focus with the Canon 100-400 lens. I use this lens on a 7D, and it is excellent at all focal lengths- good sharp images on fairly close subjects. My problem is at 400 at a distance. Recently I ran some tests with a friend- he has the same setup, so we put his and mine on tripods, all settings the same, and took the same shot. His was most definitely sharper. I put his lens on my camera and found it was still much sharper than my lens. The one thing I neglected to do was put my lens on his camera. I called Canon and was told to send it and the camera in for calibration. I am worried that since it is really great on close subjects, calibration may mess this up. Is it calibration, or is it some other problem? Both of our lenses are refurbished, bought directly from Canon. And no, my friend was very careful to pay attention to me so I wouldn't switch lenses! Any help is very much appreciated.

Is Speedlite 600EX with Canon GP-E2 connected to single TTL-cable safe?

On Ebay you can get these cables: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251339031113

Because I do macro photographry outside, I have my flash connected to a TTL-cable so I can position it next to my macrolens instead of directly on the hotshoe of my cable.

My idea: if I buy a TTL-cable that has an extra hotshoe connection directly on the 'camera side' of the cable I can just slide my GP-E2 on it (and my speedlite 600EX on the other side of the cable). It may or may not communicate with. If it doesn't this is a convenient way to lock it in place (and connect it to the camera for cummunication via usb).

However, what I am worrying about: is this safe? Is there a chance that the 'power' of my speedlite damages the GPS device? Essentially, you're directly connecting the GPS to the speedlite...

Review: Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX II

<p>Bryan over at <a href="http://www.the-digital-picture.com/" target="_blank">The Digital Picture</a> has completed his review of the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/882235-REG/Tokina_atx116prodxc_ii_AT_X_116_PRO_DX_II.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX II</a>. This lens is for APS-C sensor sizes.</p>
<p><strong>How it does against the rest of the ultra wide APS-C Zooms:

</strong><em>“As you saw in the charts on this page, there are a large number of ultra-wide APS-C format zoom lenses available. Since these lenses compete strongly against each other and since no standout exists from an image quality standpoint, selecting the right model for your needs is quite challenging. I’ve already mentioned the Tokina’s focal length range disadvantage and significant max aperture advantage over all of these other lenses. The aperture advantage makes the 11-16 the definite choice for stopping action or handholding in low light (at least until the image stabilized Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens appears). The Tokina has less vignetting and less distortion than most of the rest.”</em><strong>

<p><strong>*UPDATE*

</strong>CR reader John has reposted the images from early today, this time processed to his liking. You can <strong><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnctharp/sets/72157644599937910/" target="_blank">check them out on his Flickr page</a></strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Original Post</strong>

A reader of our site was lucky enough to play around with the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1051475-USA/canon_9518b002_ef_16_35mm_f_4l_is.html/BI/2466/KBID/3296" target="_blank">soon-to-be-released Canon EF 16-35 f/4L IS</a> at a Canon roadshow in Zurich recently. He was kind enough to post full resolution JPG files, as well as the RAW files.</p>
<p>I have put the JPG files on my <strong><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48916914@N03/sets/72157644998644901/" target="_blank">flickr account for you to view</a></strong>. The images were taken using the Canon EOS 6D.</p>
<p>Luigi does say “<em><span style="color: #000000;">As I know that some of you are waiting for real world pictures, I have published some of the images. Don’t expect anything artistic but just pictures taken while walking around the Prime Tower building in Zurich with difficult light (strong building shadows with pieces of bright sky in the frame) and only 20 min time.”</span></em></p>
<p>So no need to be too critical of the images, but they do give you a great idea of corner performance, a long time weakness of the Canon wide angle zooms. You can download the RAW files from the login provided on the <strong><a href="http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3679847#forum-post-53790356" target="_blank">original thread at DPReview</a></strong>.</p>

Reports of EOS 7D Reaching End of Life [CR2]

<p>We’ve had our second report of the Canon EOS 7D being entered into inventory systems as reaching “end of life” in June. The second report comes from a distributor and not a retailer of Canon products.</p>
<p>There have been no mentions of spec lists in a whole for the upcoming and highly anticipated replacement to the EOS 7D, although there are lots of reports that the camera will be in the hands of professional photographers this month for the World Cup in Brazil.</p>
<p>More to come…</p>

Focusing screens & the 6D

Hey everyone. Hope some of you can help me clear this up.

A year ago when I was faced with a dilemma (5D3 vs 6D) I opted for the 6D for several reasons and I've been very, very happy with the results I can achieve with this body. I heard that one of the advantages of 6D over 5D3 is the option of interchangable focusing screens. But what does it really give you? What is the point of changing them? Is there a big difference? I mostly use the center point for 99,9% of my shots and I mostly use fast primes for shooting (135/2, 50/1.4 & 50/1.2 & 16-35/2.8II)

Thanks!

Yongnuo 622c

Good evening everyone! I am brand new to this site and I just have a quick question. I have a canon 5d mkiii with a 24-70mm f2.8ii. I am new to the concept of forums so please bare with me. I just purchased the yongnuo 622c flash transceiver and I was wondering if anyone has used it and give me any feedback on it. Also, I have 2 speedlites, but only one of them supports high speed sync so if i fire both of the speedlites at one time with a shutter speed of 250 and above, would I still get the curtain stuck into the picture. THank you for the help.

Used fujifilm tx-1 hasselblad x-pan Craigslist

Hello all saw on my local Craigslist a listing for the camera mentioned in the title and was looking for advice on it.
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/pho/4478037384.html
I saw Kai of DigitalRev using something similar to this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=38plXCYCvKQ
Any idea if this is a good deal? Is it hard to get film for these? Is it hard to get film developed for this camera? The photos Kai took were pretty cool with this camera and it made me want to try one and sure enough there's someone selling one locally. Thanks guys

Have you used Honl gold/silver reflector/snoot?

Hello my dear friends. I'd like to get a gold/silver reflector to get the skin tones more attractive. Unfortunately, I'm just a amateur and don't have an assistant to hold it. Therefore, I'm wondering if any of you used this Honl gold/silver reflector, which can be attached to the flash:

Or should I pay some more $ and get something like this? http://www.adorama.com/FPPR5142K.html#reviews

Thank you :)

overgrown train tracks

About a week ago I was riding my bike downtown (Tucson, Arizona) and discovered a section of unused train tracks. They had trees growing in the middle which I thought was cool. Biked over this afternoon to do a few pics. Canon 5D3, 24-105L f/4 lens, quick application of Nik Bleach Bypass (at about 50% opacity over the base photo).

70D Videos time and date info?

I'm trying to stamp videos taken with the 70D with the time/date of when they where taken. On camcorders that use AVCHD there is software to do this automatically but i have never seen it for .mov files i'm not even sure if they contain the data needed other than the creation date.

It could be done by hand but would take forever with a memory card full of video clips taken over months time.

Need a 600mm. Don't want to pay for one

I want a 600mm focal length for zoos on my 5d3 but I can't afford the big canon glass.

The options I'm considering are:

Tamron 150-600 @ £950

or

Sigma 120-300 Sport @ £2500 + a 2x TC

I can afford either of these options but not both. My question is, which will be better at 600mm? considering, IQ and AF speed.

I have the canon 70-200 2.8ii so the sigma for its 120-200 range doesn't excite me (neither does the cost or weight). but 300mm f2.8 excites me, so does 400mm f4 but I not sure about 600mm via a 2x TC.

Have anyone come across a direct comparison of these two routes to 600mm?

All opinions greatly welcomed.
thanks in advance.
Alex

70D Mode Dial Failure?

I'm a new hobby level photographer and have been shooting with my 70D for about 6 months. Over the memorial weekend my camera started acting strangle when rotating the mode dial. I'm hoping I've just changed a setting somewhere and this is an easy fix...

When I turn the mode dial to AV/TV/M the camera refuses to move into this function. It either picks P, CA, or SCN. I've tried resetting all settings back to factory, cycling power, and pulling the battery. Physically the dial doesn't feel loose or any different than it did when new. Any ideas are welcome as I leave for Glacier National Park next week on vacation and don't really have time to ship it off to Canon for warranty before I leave.
