Hi all,
Some are excited about the corner sharpness of the upcoming 16-35mm f/4L IS.

Just curious, if Canon were hypothetically able to improve corner sharpness on the 16-35 II f/2.8L by 25%, would you be willing to go for a bigger lens? If you recall, the 16-35 II increased filter size/lens diameter from 77mm to 82mm from the 16-35 I in exchange for improved corner sharpness. Is the 82mm filter size/lens diameter already too large or not? Of course, it is likely with increased lens diameter weight will increase as well. Thanks!

If you had to start from scratch all over again, what would you buy?

What with all the Canon bashing ("they're taking too long, not giving us the megapixels we want, why aren't they upgrading the lenses I like?, I'm jumping ship to Niko/Fuji/Sony etc."), I had a thought...

If the unthinkable happened and you lost all your gear, but it was fully insured, leaving you with a nice fat cheque to go out and build a new system, which company and camera system would you invest in for your needs now that you aren't tied down by lenses and accessories?

Me? It would be a tough call. I love my 5D3 and my handful of lenses, but I'd have a long hard look at the D800e, maybe even the new 645z.

So would you use it as an opportunity to move over, or would it be a simple case of buying the same gear again?

Over to you chaps.

Canon 5D3: Is 30fps "REALLY" 30fps, or is it slightly off?

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to bring in some 5D3 footage I shot for the first time, using the 30fps frame rate, this was to match other video cameras on the shoot, guessing they were shooting 30fps.

I'm about to bring it into Davinci Resolve Lite, and I learned in the past, especially with Resolve and FCPX roundtripping workflow…that the 5D3 does not in fact shoot 24fps, but it shoots 23.976fps, and Resolve is VERY sensitive to this….took me forever to figure that roundtripping problem out.

With 24fps from the 5D3, I make sure on Resolve and FCPX both that they work with and out put to 23.976 so that it works.

So, with that being said….on the 5D3, is 30fps == 30fps or is it something like 29.xxx fps in reality?

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Canon + Fuji Mirrorless Rumor?

This very site posted this...
http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/05/fuji-canon-partnership-for-mirrorless-in-the-works-cr1/

...then took down the link from the main page and the forum link to discussion on it.

Did someone ask them to take it down? ::)

(I highly doubt it, but I thought I'd put it out there. Whoever conjured up this decidedly wild rumor to CR1 status is undoubtedly high-fiving him/herself right now.)

Tamron 150-600 + Kenko 1.4 TC + 5dmkIII

I just bought a Tamron 150-600 and for the pure sake of getting mad with mms I wanted to try it with a TC. I already own a Kenko pro 300 DGX 1.4, and I had seen on the web already somebody using this lens with this TC, but to my great disappointment I get "Err 01" message on my 5d Mark III when I try this combination.
It seems to only work in LV mode... which might be enough for some experiments anyway (usual boring stuff like the moon or whatever I feel like to try playing with many mms).

I'm quite sure I had seen somebody using the 3 things together before, so what can it be? any camera settings that might affect this? Any little trick to make it work? Unlucky "version" of one of the 3?

On the other hand... it works on my old 50D (without AF of course)... making it possible to shoot at an equivalent focal of 1344.. wow! :D

Greetings from Italy and... grazie!

Sigma 50mm Art 1.4 Focusing problems

Hello dear friends

After 4 copies of Sigma I'm a bit disappointed.
It's a gorgeous piece of glass but needs adjustments.
All copies are front focusing from the beginning and needs +13 or +17 depends on bodies.
So I decided to return and wait a bit longer.
Really don't think new lens should be adjusted at all !!!
Especially when Canon's 50L hit every single time…. but it's much softer

Please share your experience with this lens.

Problems with 5D3 Live View recording images

Does anyone know if there is a known problem with shooting the 5D3 in LV? My camera body (purchased 12/12) started acting strange a couple of weeks ago. When in LV, the shutter fires, but the camera doesn't record an image. Additionally, the speed at which the shutter fires is not the speed for which the camera is set. When I attempt to press the shutter half-way for AF to kick in, the shutter fires instead of focusing. Video still works. I tried resetting the camera to the factory settings, but that didn't do anything.

Any thoughts? I would hate to send it in for repairs if it's something "easy" that I can handle.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Still waiting for high MP canon while Nikon is coming out with new 800

I've waited a long time for Nikon to recapture the lead on Nikon and their 36 mp camera. And now I read that Nikon will introduce an upgrade to the 800e in June. Why am I not jumping ship? I do have a lot of canon glass and have been a local customer. I own the mk III and 6d and I love the images .BUTT, COME ON ALREADY cCanon. Get your stuff together!

Polarizing Filter to reduce light advice.

Hi I shoot outside a lot, and since my Einstein Flashes can't sync over 1/320, I usually take my Canon 600EX Flash with me.
Unfortunately, even with the built in diffuser, the shadows are harsh. And with a Gary Fong Diffuser, which softens the shadows a lot, the flash loses output so it has to be set at a stronger level, therefore taking longer to recycle.
Another reason I like the on board flash is the High-speed sync, so I can shoot at F2.8 and not worry about shutter speed.
I want to know if there is a filter that will help me keep sync speeds under 1/320 and still shoot at F2.8 on bright sun light.
Basically, sunglasses for my Canon 24-70 II :)
Thanx for your help.

C P S Central Warranties

Does anyone have any actual experience with CPS Central and claims?

The Gray Market 5Dmk3 that's listed on the front-page, the company says the warranty comes from that company. Looking them up, I see some mixed reviews (mostly cell phones) so I shied away initially.

On Lens Authority, however, that is THEIR third party warranty, and I trust the LR people as much as here.

It's essentially an insurance plan that you have to use THEIR repair shop; just wanted to know if anyone has actually used them.

Thanks guys.

Canon 85mm both front and back focussing issue ?

I have a Canon 85mm 1.8 purchased from a certain auction site some months ago. Since getting it i have been unhappy with the focus results.

I have tried adjusting technique whilst hand holding and also been through the moire and ruler tests to attempt an adjustment.

Today i tried the battery test with 5AAs at 45 degrees to the camera on tripod 2 second timer centre spot focus.

At around 1 metre i had to dial in -20 ( the max ) on my 5D3 and -10 on my 5D2 to get it spot on, it then performed perfectly even off the camera at that distance.

I them aim it into another room at a wall clock about 4 meters away and now its front focusing and i have to return it to zero on both cameras to get it in focus.

This has left my head hurting and not sure what to do with it ( bar throwing it in a bin )

Is it possible for a lens to both front and back focus depending on the distance if so is this a mechanical fault that can be repaired does anyone know ?

thank you
Andrew

From Photo Counter Australia

Canon Australia will sack almost 10 percent of its Australian staff following a dramatic downturn in profit (before income tax) in its 2013 financial year from $38.6 million (2012) to just $4.1 million.

Canon will outsource some of the roles covered by approximately 100 staff in ‘administration and back-office support jobs’ to business process management firms Genpact and Convergys, and is reported as saying the restructure will ‘streamline its office operations to increase efficiencies and better serve its customers’.

New flash for eos 6d?

Sorry, guys! another question: 8)

I own an 550ex AND AN 540Ex (for the old Eos 3 and 1V) flash and new, a Eos 6D.

Can I feel an big improvement when i buy an 430 EX-II or an 600EX-RT? Or an third party flash?

If I would buy one of these new flashes, what do I need to use the flash off the camera? Do i need an wireless transmitter ? the shop assistant told me to buy an 300€ transmitter. Or is there an another third party transmitter equal to it?

DSRL Camera for travel

Hi all,

I am planning to have holidays but I don't want to travel heavy with my 5D3 and the FF lenses. I want to buy a light body and I am between the SL1 and the T5i that could be also light for my kids to use. Obviusly I will have to buy one or two lenses compatible with the APS-C sensor but, I am also thinking about a do-it-all ultrazoom and carry my 35mmf2IS for low light situations.
Any experience or suggestion on those bodies and ultrazoom lens?
