Lens dilemma for night sky

Hi.

I'm looking forward to buy some new lenses. The primary goal would be landscapes and night sky photos.
I'd like to mention that I own a Canon 5d Mark III so noise is acceptable, but I wanna lower that.
I'm looking right now to:
Canon 16-35 f2.8 II L
Canon 16-35 f2.8 II L + Rokinon 24 F1.4
Canon 17-40 f4 L + Rokinon 24 F1.4
Canon 17-40 f4 L + Canon 24 F1.4 L

Keeping in mind that I need option for filters too and aperture for night sky(no star trail). Sky trackers are not an option because of the foreground.
I read a lot about the Canon 24 vs Rokinon 24 coma problem.
In the future I also wanna buy a Canon 24 TS-E lens, but that's gonna wait.

I'm curios about your opinions. Renting these lenses, unfortunately is not an option.
Thank you for your time and patience.

Macbook Pro for Video Editing?

I am looking into a Macbook Pro setup for video editing. Edits will mostly be weddings, events, and some photo editing. I prefer the mid 2012 models over the new Retina models. The specific model I am looking at is:

Intel Core i7 Quad-Core 2.3 GHz CPU
Internal 4GB DDR3 RAM
Features 500GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
Intel HD 4000 Graphics& NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
LED-Backlit 15.4" (39.1 cm) Display
Native 1440 x 900 Resolution
Wireless 802.11n WiFi & Bluetooth 4.0
Dual USB 3.0 Ports & Thunderbolt Port
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

With the obvious upgrade of 16mb RAM, is this a suitable option for video editing?

7D body technical error - takes only half exposed shot - no video

I'm having a weird problem with my 7D - a technical error telling me to turn my camera on and off and to reinstall my battery is coming up. It isn't allowing me to shoot video. It is also only half 'exposing' my shots - that is, only half the image comes up - the other half of the shot is black.
Does anyone know what this means? It happened all of a sudden when I wasn't having any problems prior - it is aproblem with the shutter?

Occasional beeping AF during AI SERVO?

Recently picked up some new 600 ex rt's and a ste3rt. Fabulous system. But for some reason I've noticed on occasion that when shooting in AI SERVO (and back button focus), I'm getting an occasional red lit AF confirmation. Seems to be more common with the flash set up but I recall very infrequently it happening prior. Body is a 5d3.

Doesn't seem to be a big issue but wondering if anyone else has noticed same?

two 20ds or one 5D classic?

Hi,
I'm an enthusiast photographer. I do trucks, transport, landscapes and my mate's band. I currently shoot two 20d. I love these cameras and it will be a while before i change them. When I do decide to change, would a 5D classic be a nice upgrade? I won't upgrade for a while as I am focusing on updating my glass first. I can see advantages of FF but also of two bodies. What are your thoughts?

Phottix Odin Canon 6D/430exII setup for Noob

I'm wondering how to get the TTL function to work with my Canon 6D and 438EXII using the Phottix Odin. If I put the flash in TTL, I can control it in 'M' mode on the control unit, but when I put the control unit in 'TTL' mode, it just fires full blast and over exposes everything. Is there a setting in the camera flash menu I need to select? I made sure that both the transmitter and receiver are firmware 1.24. Apart from TTL, it functions perfectly.

I guess this will help me develop manual flash skills.

Replacement foot for Canon 600II

Yes I just got.

I am looking for a replacement foot for this lens. Both the regular foot and short foor take up extra rooms in the bag take up too much space in the bag. I am lookig ath 4th genreation design (see http://www.naturescapes.net/store/4th-generation-designs-crx-5-lens-foot.html) or the Wimberley AP-602 (http://tripodhead.com/products/replacement-feet-main.cfm).

Both are very low and can not be used as a handle but will save considerable room in the camera bag when traveling.

Any opinion? Any other choices? My fall back position is the monopod foot that came with the lens.

Thanks

Rich

70-200mm F 2.8 IS 2 VS 70-200mm F4 IS

Hi Friends,

I am in little bit dilemma to but 70-200 F 2.8 IS and its coming with good discounted price on several web sites.
But I currently own 70-200mm F4 IS. Also I am a hobbyist and not professional. Is it worth for me when I upgrade, with respective to lens quality and the price I am spending on F2.8? Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Adv,
Shiv

<p><strong>From <a href="http://www.lensrentals.com">LensRentals.com</a>

When Zeiss announced the lens, they claimed it would be the best SLR lens ever made. By all accounts, it appears Zeiss has come through on that claim.</p>
<p><strong>Says Roger

</strong><em>“I won’t try to say whether the Otus is worth $4,000 to you. But I can certainly say that Zeiss did what they said they had done: gave it exceptional performance even in the corners at widest aperture. First time shooting IPB instead of ALI-I....workflow changes?

Hi all,

I just shot some video this weekend and I decided to switch to IPB.....I've only shot ALI-I until now.

I usually often just bring the native canon footage into FCPX and start editing.

Do you have to do any kind of conversion with IPB if using FCPX or Adobie Premier Pro? I was thinking of giving Premier Pro a try this go around....

I shot in Marvels Flat cine style....can this go straight into Davinci Resolve 10? I thought I might run it through Davinci....do the color correction/grading and then export out for use by either FCPX or Premier....but not sure if the IPB workflow is that straight forward?

Thanks in advance,

cayenne

More Mentions of 2014 Being the Year of the Lens [CR1]

<strong>The year of the lens!

</strong>We’ve had a few confirmations that 2014 will be the “year of the lens” for Canon. While Nikon and Sony go into new markets such as full frame mirrorless and retro designs, Canon will apparently stay the course and concentrate on DSLRs and lenses for the EOS lineup.</p>
<p>What should we expect?</p>
<p>Firstly, a new worlds widest full frame zoom lens (nor sure what this could be), a wide angle zoom with IS (17-50 f/4L IS?), a new fast wide angle successor with “new technology” (35 f/1.4?). We can also expect two new tilt-shift lenses, a telephoto zoom successor (100-400?) as well as “budget high quality lenses”.</p>
<p>I’m starting to believe the hype, as the info is coming from known and new sources, and they all seem to be saying the same thing.</p>
<p>More to come.</p>

Is Canon about to pull the plug on the 60D?

Two members of my local photoclub (in India) have been trying to buy the 60D for the past month or so. They have tried buying online but the 60D is being reported to be out of stock / backordered from Canon. The local dealers are also citing that the 60D is short in supply. The dealers and online retailers are trying to push through the 70D citing the shortage of the 60D.

The last time I checked on B&H, the 60D is available so this might just be an India centric problem but is there any news that Canon is going to pull the plug on the 60D? Or is the 60D shortage being cited simply to push the sale of the more expensive 70D? Or maybe I've missed something ...

The Canon Rumors site is not updating for some of us (apparently those who don't use IE):

Sorry out of the topic, but a few days ago the same topics are on the homepage CR. Is it just me, or is the site having problems? Always appear the following topics:

I get the same thing and have been wondering about it. Anyone know?

I get the same thing in Chrome. IE10 works normally.

I'm trying to alert admin (I suppose there are other ways to do that as well :P).
