looking for camera backpack/sling for upcoming vacation

Hello,
I am going to San Diego and disneyland soon and want to carry my gear on my trip. I have the following:
Canon 5d3
24-105 with hood
50mm 1.4 hood
70-200 f4 is with hood (buying soon)
extra battery
430 ex ii
270 ex ii

I was used to the lowe pro sling shot 102AW but since going full frame now everything is bigger. I need to be able to stash the camera and grab it when a photo op comes up quickly so I would need to be able to stow the worst case scenario 5d3 with 70-200. The only ones I have found are the lowe pro 302aw which seems so big for a sling or the fastpack 350 but does not seem so well received. I have looked at the flipside but it seems so hard to spin the bag around just to take out the camera.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

5D2 Battery Grip with Joystick

I'm a photographer who's always interested in creating/innovating technology to work better for the user.

Why hasn't anyone re-engineered the BG-E6 (an after mark version) to include a joystick?

If they have... can someone please post a link?

Compensation: Big appature lens or Full-frame camera?

All righty than,
So my friend recently acquired a full frame camera and he loves how he can bump the ISO higher than on his cropped sensor camera and have little noise (Nikon D800).

Of course I know that bumping the ISO higher on a full frame is not always the way to get better photos, but it compensates for a big f.
I am now using a Rebel T1i, however I have saved almost 80% for a 24-70 f2.8L II lens. I have a f4 24-105L but sometimes shooting indoor sports is a pain ( recreational sports).
So what would you guys do? buy the f2.8 or buy the full frame and bump the ISO (5D MKII)?
what would give you better pictures?

Thanks,

Quick Tests for Canon 5D MKIII

So after a year plus of waiting, I'm finally getting my hands on a 5D3 in two weeks time. I'm from the UK but to save some cash I'm picking it up when I have a trip over to Germany to see a friend - customs are fine with the import as it's purchased within the EU for personal use so no issues there.

My question for you guys is, I've basically got one day with the camera in Germany before I head back to the UK so I want to make sure I've got a good copy while I'm over there. I don't know if I've spent too long in this forum to get a bit paranoid about bad copies but what kind of tests can I do to make sure I've not got any of the issues people have been sending dud copies back for? High ISO shots to check noise levels? Long exposures of light and dark scenes to check for dead/hot pixels etc? Is there a way of mapping out hot pixels?

I'm guessing my copy is a post-light-leak model as it has only come into stock this week but I'll check for the xxxxx1xxxxxx or xxxxx2xxxxxx serial numbers.

Any tips would be gratefully received!

Oh and if it helps, although I'm getting body only, I'll be taking my Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L for the tests.

Outdoor lighting solutions for video - help.

Hi everyone,

Im wondering what the best solution for outdoor lighting is at the moment in regards to a few different aspects. Are LEDS and other cool lighst best, or traditional hot lights?

Also, how do you power lights outside? Car battery or something similar?

Please imagine the two following situations and suggest what you would do.

1. A night time shoot with a band in some woods to give an eerie atmosphere. Enough lighting is need for the whole band. How many lights, what type, how would you power it? Cost?

2. Following a vocalist around a city with close up shots as they sing for a music video. You want the pretty brokeh in the backround but also want a bit of soft light on the face and maybe something from behind to catch the highlights in the hair.
How many lights, what type, how would you power it? Cost?

I am mainly interested in music promo but im sure these situations can be closley related to many other types of videos.

I look forward to a few responses hopefully :) I dont have much money to spend on lights (£500 - £1000) and everytime ive looked i can only find batteries that costs that much alone. I hope im looking in the wrong places and some can help me here.

Thanks!

Craig

Canon 1D MKIV VS 5D MKIII Cameras(Sports Photography)

For sports photography, which between the Canon 1D MKIV or 5D MKIII is the better camera to use?And why? Also,I've heard that the 5D MKIII is the better camera for low light shoting. If true, how much better is it as compared to the 1D MKIV in low light shooting? Is there a big difference? How about in brighter light, which between the two focuses faster and has quicker subject acquisition?By the way,for your information,I mostly shoot outdoors.
Thanks.

Canon EOS-1D X Delays [CR2]

What’s going on?

I have heard just about everything as to why the Canon EOS-1D X has been delayed for almost 3-4 months. I’ve heard blame being placed on battery approval in Japan, FCC approval in the United States, production issues with certain parts of the camera, serious firmware issues that had to be resolved to name a few. Canon has kept the issues very close to the vest and very few people know the exact reasons.

So?…..

Recently I have been told by a couple of people that the version of the 1DX that has reached select AP and CPS photographers are not in fact production cameras, they are preproduction. Canon felt it was important to have the new camera out for Euro 2012 and the Olympics in London. It’s suggested that the cameras that are in the hands of these photographers will infact have to go back to Canon and will be replaced with the production model whenever they are ready.

That seems strange, no?

If anyone with a 1D X can confirm this, I’d love to hear it.

CRs Take

The above may be untrue, however a 3-4 month delay in this day and age is a pretty unique thing (for anything other than big lenses). It tells me, and others, that something at the hardware level with the camera is being addressed and has required additional R&D and manufacturing considerations. If the issue was something like a battery or FCC approval, I don’t see the harm in just saying that in a press release and getting on with things.

Will the camera hit retailers in June? For the moment I don’t have an answer, I haven’t heard anything from major retailers about availability in a long time.

Food for thought….

28-300 L lens- thoughts?

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask what people's thoughts on this lens were. They don't have this lens at my local camera store (I think when I asked them why, they said something along the lines of "we don't like it" or "it doesn't sell"), and internet reviews seem to be rather sparse. I really want to try out this lens for size but can't really seem to do so.

I've heard mixed thoughts about the image quality- some say it can hold its own with the more specialized lenses, others complain about softness at various focal lengths, so I just wanted to see if there are any owners (or former owners) here and see what they think.

5D mk II AF problem

I think one of my sensors is bad/broken, specifically the lower left. Every other sensor grabs focus pretty quickly in good light. Almost exclusively, the lower left will go to infinity and back before stopping, sometimes in focus, sometimes not.

This is a recent thing; I've used the sensor in the past. Any ideas what could cause it and how to go about fixing it?

Italy Trip Lens Advice - wide angle

I will be taking my first trip to Italy late this summer and will be visiting Rome, Florance, Chique Terre, and Venice. I'm hoping to pack light and will be traveling with my 5Diii and 24-105L at a minimum. I'm looking for some advice on a wide angle lens choice for the trip.

I would like to be able to capture good pics inside churches and in the small to large squares as well as the grand vistas like inside the coliseum. I will not be traveling with a tripod so that will make panos much more difficult.

I currently have the Canon 16-35L ii but I'm curious if this is the right choice. I've been eyeing the sigma 15mm fisheye for some time and thought that this might be a better choice?

My experience with the 16-35 with indoor and architecture shots is that perspective usually causes slanted walls and other distractions. Would I really be much worse off with a fisheye?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Need a Back up Body

I recently sold my 7d to buy a 5D Mk3. I need to have a backup body with the type of photography i am doing (I do more event, journalistic and people type photography with some nature), and i dont know what to do. I want another FF body buy i cannot afford another 5D M3, Besides i feel canon ripped us off in terms of how expensive the 5D Mk3 is. The 5D Mk2 is an option, but i have heard so many horror stories about the focusing is that i wonder whether to wait for one of the new FF bodies we are talking about. I absolutely hate the 7D, i think it is tantamount to a 'pig' with lipstick. With the 7D i dislike its ISO performance in low light and the overall IQ and i refuse to go that rout again with a body with that particular APC sensor for 1700$. Maybe a Rebel 2ti or 3ti? It is really a difficult time to be the owner of Canon Glass.

Proper way to set down gripped camera

I am getting back into photography here and doing well with some local clients, but today received my new 70-200mm f/2.8 II lens, and have it mounted on a 5DMK3 with a grip. When the camera+lens is not is use or I am adjusting a set, I just set it down, but with this longer lens it puts alot of pressure on the joint between the camera and lens. Is this ok to do or should I set the camera up vertical on the lens? I appreciate any and all answers here.

I did look in all my Canon manuals and did not see it, and also did some searches on the forum, so I apologize if this is a duplicate post topic, thanks again!

Regards,

Shane

Another 5DIII problem? Preview too dark

I got my replacement 5DIII last week, and only got to play with it last weekend. I noticed a weird phenomenon. After I take a picture and go quickly to preview it by pressing 'play' button (I have auto-preview disabled), the picture will be dark like badly underexposed. Then if I leave the preview (e.g. by half pressing shutter release) and go back to it, the picture will appear properly exposed.

Very weird. Firmware bug? The body came with 1.1.1 firmware, I think.
