5d2 with 24-105 kit up 100$ since last week what does that mean?

I've been on the fence about buying a 5d2 kit and watching the prices but I just checked tonight and it's up 100 dollars matching my local vendors and last week everyone online had it for 2699. Does this mean something new might show up or stock is dwindling down and so price goes up? It's starting to not seem like a good deal to me anymore.

24-70 II Shipped from B&H

I just saw the post on the front page that B&H expected to ship the first batch of 24-70 II lenses tomorrow. I hadn't received a shipping notification, but I checked, just to see if there was any update, and my lens shipped out today at 3:23pm. It's coming ground, and I'm in Boston, so it's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I had a very early pre-order -- I ordered on February 7 (which was I think announcement day?). If you ordered from B&H, you should check your order status...

Anybody want to buy a very good 24-70 f/2.8 L version 1?

In Camera Nosie/Sharpen, etc - JPEG Only?

I've always been a straight RAW shooter. The only time I've shot to JPEG is on a couple of events where I wasn't going to do any post processing and needed to hand the memory card off to someone else at the end of the day. But I've got something coming up where I want to shoot RAW primarily but use the second card slot in my 5D3 to capture JPEGs just for a little extra insurance.

Right now have all of the in-camera processing turned off like noise reduction and sharpening. I do that all in post processing for my RAW images. I'm thinking I'd like to have these applied to the JPEGs I'm capturing to the second card.

I know this sounds like a dumb question and I really should know the answer, but can someone confirm for me that these in-camera processing settings are only applied to JPEG and not RAW images? If some are applied to RAW, which ones are they?

Thanks.

1DX Autofocus Test: Tennis

I was able to actually focus-track a tennis ball in flight. Yes. To illustrate this absolutely extraordinary feature of the 1DX, I tracked the ball with single point in Case 6 I believe, and it ignored the closer girl in my foreground. I cropped a bit here, but just did a quick jpeg save.

The 50mm f/1.4: Conclusion

So I had to send my 50mm f/1.4 up to the lens hospital in Spokane. It was a DIY fix that went awry. It's being discharged now and is on it's way back home to me. How much did all of this cost? Not as much as a new lens. Not quite, anyway. But it sure feels like it. But it's my own fault, and ended up costing me more because of the botched fix-it job.

If you own this lens: Store it in the middle of the focus range, like around the 3 foot mark, and NOT at the infinity point like a lot of people recommend on the internets. I got this advice from the guy who worked on it, a factory-authorized lens tech.

Canada - USA cross border warranty service

I've browsed a ton of warranty related posts but was unable to find a straight answer to my question.

As Canadian - if I buy a body (5DMKIII) in the US and i need warranty repair/service (in Canada) - would Canon Canada take it for service or i will need to send it to the US? I know the card says US/Canada warranty, but it i could not find a clear indication that a cross-border purchase will be serviced in a country of residence.

Any experience?

Which Camera & Lens - Aviation + Animals

I was about to upgrade to the 5D iii (currently have 50D) but just before I do I want to check with the many Pros and Arm Chair Pros on here if it would be right for me.

I want to shoot Aviation and animals, some landscape and Family (non portrait, just nice shots)

I can spend up to £8000 ($12000), however saving money always helps.

I have currently 70-200 L IS 2.8 and 24-105 IS L 4.0

The options then FF or not to FF. 600mm f4 or will the 400m F5.6 do it's a lot cheaper? Which Body? Which Lens? Extenders? (I had one 2x mk ii on a 70-200 and did not like the quality)

Any other combos you guys can think of????

Thanks for your time!

Lens case for 70-200 f/2.8 II

Hi All, just a simple question but I'd like to know for those who owns this lens, do you use the Canon - LZ1326 Lens Case that came along w/the lens purchase or did you get something like the Lowepro S&F Lens Exchange Case 200AW?

By reading these two items, it looks like the Lowepro is more on the 'heavy duty' side? What's the pro/con of each in your opinion?

My main usage w/this will be for walking around the city, assisting with weddings, on a Lowepro S&F Light Utility Belt

Thanks again for your input!!

<strong>Press Release</strong>

Samyang Optics is about to release a new lens with the perspective control function — Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC. The official product presentation will take place on September 18th 2012, during international photographic Photokina fairs held in Cologne.</p>
<p>New Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with the perspective control and tilt-shift functions. Its unique optical and mechanical construction makes it an ideal tool for architecture and landscape photography. The product will be also extremely useful when convergence of the lines in the frame is required. Owing to the mechanism of optical axis tilt, focus depth operation brings utterly new quality and possibilities, enabling photographers to shape the image according to their individual needs, both on digital and nalog carriers.</p>
<p><!--more-->Optical design of Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC comprises of sixteen lenses arranged in eleven groups, including two aspherical lens and two lens made of ED glass with low dispersion factor. Thanks to this solution, the lens perfectly reproduces detailed elements and gives splendid image plasticity, also with the T-S function on. Each optical component of the product was covered with multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coatings, which provide great light transmission factor, high contrasts and render only natural colors of the photographed scene. With sophisticated optics and developed T-S function, Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC is currently the most advanced lens produced by Samyang Optics and may compete with similar lenses of other brands.</p>
<p><strong>Tilt-Shift function

</strong>Tilt-Shift function in Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC allows for smooth and individual adjustment of the focus plane angle by +/-8.5 and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12 millimeters. To make Tilt-Shift function even more seamless, both the lens mount as well as Tilt-Shift section may be rotated on the optical axis. The Tilt-Shift section may be rotated left by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment), while mount of the lens may be rotated both in left and right direction by 90 degrees, also with 30 degree adjustment.</p>
<p>Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC will be available with mounts for Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K and Sony A. We welcome everyone to visit us at Photokina at our booth A025 in the hall 2.1.</p>

40 2.8 with extension tubes

I was just wondering if anybody has tried out the 40 2.8 with extension tubes. Given its very small design, I would think this would give a greater minimum working distance since even with the extension tubes it wouldn't stick out as far as some other lenses.

I'm shooting a wedding in a couple weeks and am not planning to rent a macro for it. I just shot a wedding on Saturday and only used the 100 IS L for a few shots of the ring so I can't really justify renting a macro just for that little. I have the 24 105 and am renting the tamron 24 70 as well in case anybody has any input on if those would work better with extension tubes (I would think not). I also have been wanting to try out the canon 35 1.4 and own the canon 35 2.0 if anybody has tried it on those as well. Thanks.

Remote (infrared)Trigger for the 1DX

Last weekend I tried to make some nightshoots with my 1DX and tripod and I found out that my Canon RC-1 is not working with the 1DX. I read somewhere that all 1-Series have no built-in infrared controller!

How do I shoot group fotos with myself on it? 10sec timer. ok. but only ONE picture will be shoot then. with my old 5D2 I took my RC-1 and I did 10-20 pictures. Always at least one was good of them.
How do you solve that?

<strong>Development Announcement?

</strong>I’m told it’s possible we’ll see an “in development” announcement sometime in 2012 for a large megapixel DSLR from Canon. I have heard both 39mp and 46mp prototype(s) are out in the field.</p>
<p>In development announcements seem to be getting more popular with Canon and their high end products. As we’ve seen from the EOS-1D C and EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4X, it seems to allow them a lot of latitude in testing and helps with public relations. It also stops sites like this speculating on arrival of new products. :)</p>

7D to 5D III upgrade..worth it?

Hello,

I think maybe this questions has been put out there before,..so I apologize if it has…Just wondering if there are any thoughts out there on upgrading from a 7D to a 5D III. I’m looking for better IQ at low ISOs. Low ISO noise from the 7D has really annoyed me at times. I like to shoot landscapes, HDRs, and some people/portrait and macro work. Thanks for any opinions!

EF 24-70 2.8 II quick review

product quality: for weight reduction body is made out of plastic (but seems to be solid), lens connection is made out of metal with a rubber lip, zoom is very good, focus ring is excellent, the lens has a fixed filter holder, stray-light protection is only streaky, AF is a little bit faster than the AF in version one

optics: very high performance, you can use it with open aperture, yout get top values if you set the aperture to f/4, at APS-C the resolution is a little bit lower, visible vignetting at 24 mm (even if you go to f/4) on FF, lower visible vignetting at 24 mm (even if you go to f/4) on APS-C, visible distortion at 24 mm

Vignetting in stops:
24 mm on APS-C, aperture 2,8/5,6: -0,83/-0,60 / Tamron -0,66 / -0,52
40 mm on APS-C, aperture 2,8/5,6: -0,56/-0,35 / Tamron -0,56 / -0,35
70 mm on APS-C, aperture 2,8/5,6: -0,64/-0,23 / Tamron - 0,52 / -0,24

24 mm on FF, aperture 2,8/5,6: -1,91/-1,33 / Tamron -2,31 / -1,33
40 mm on FF, aperture 2,8/5,6: -1,58/-0,96 / Tamron -1,73 / -0,95
70 mm on FF, aperture 2,8/5,6: -1,52/-0,77 / Tamron -1,97 / -1,15

Distorsion
24 mm on APS-C/FF: -1,6% / -2,3 % (barrel-shaped) / Tamron -1,9 % / -3,1 % (barrel-shaped)
40 mm on APS-C/FF: 0,1 % / 0,4 % (pulvinated) / Tamron -0,1 % / 0,3 % (barrel-shaped/pulvinated)
70 mm on APS-C/FF: 0,4 % / 1,0 % (pulvinated) / Tamron 0,4 % / 1,1 % (pulvinated)

overall efficiency in percent on FF (aperture 2.8/4.0/5.6/8.0/11)
24 mm 83/92/87/85/83 - Tamron 80/82/82/81/78
40 mm 78/82/82/81/82 - Tamron 75/82/82/81/79
70 mm 82/82/85/83/82 - Tamron 74/77/78/78/81

Stars from small light sources at f/16 or f/22 in low light if you shoot landscapes
The nine blades produces 18 star spouds. I don´t like such stars. With the old lens with eight blades you get stars with eight spouds. It´s a optical fact, that you get with an uneven amount of blades the double amount of star spouds as you have blades.

Conclusion:
The EF 24-70 2.8 II is the best zoom lens in this focal range. It´s better in optics than the Tamron (Tamron has more vignetting on FF) and the AF is much faster than the Tamron AF. I don´t like the rotating direction of the zoom ring from Tamron. It drives me crazy, because it´s reverse to the Canon zoom ring direction. I like the lens hood from the version one. If you shoot into the direct sunlight with version two you have to shade the lens opening with the new hood on it with your hand or a black piece of paper or you get sunspots in your image.

I don´t put the data from the Nikkor 24-70 made with the D800E on the net, because the optical quality is far away from the EF 24-70 II. For D800E and D4 users I hope, that Nikon put a new version on the market.

If it´s worth the price for you (around 1.000 more) you have to decide for yourself. I have to work less than a day as a professional photographer for it and I can say definetely YES to the lens.

Private conclusion:
I hold the prototype and the production version as my everyday walk-around-lens for portraits, sports, events and landscapes (private use and travelling) in combination with the 16-35 2.8 II and the EF 70-200 2.8 II IS.

For business I mostly prefer the primes from Canon and Zeiss and my Hasselblad. But the lens and the EF 70-200 2.8 II IS is a great performer for business to.

Canon S100 vs Sony RX100

I want a compact, fixed lens camera to take everywhere when I'm not carrying my 5d2 or 7d. Have previously tried m43, E-P1 and E-PM1, and felt they were too slow and didn't want to buy multiple lenses for them and my dslrs. Bought an S100, it takes sharp, detailed shots but also tempted to exchange for RX100. I keep reading that the Sony has a sensor that is triple the size, and the price is double what I paid for the S100. Can anyone who has used both offer insight as to whether I should stay with the Canon or return it and get the Sony? Can the Sony offer double or triple the iq to justify the price? Thanks, Debbie

So, my wife and I have three weddings right at the start of 2013, but here's the kicker; I think we're lacking a little glass.

We have the following
5DII, 60D, 17-40L, 35L, 50 1.4, and a 430ex ii. We also have a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 which I am not the biggest fan of and will be selling soon. We would like to keep our purchase at a max of ~2K and don't mind buying new, refurbed, or used (from a quality seller).

What do you all think? I strongly believe that this forum is an invaluable resource for photographers who are beginning their business and thank you all in advance for your support.

Shutter Question

I have been thinking a lot about shutters lately and I know I should know the answer to this question but why is a shutter even necessesary? Obviously it is necessary for film but why for digital? Why can't the power to the sensor power on and off according to the "shutter speed"? Why isn't that possible?

Is my 430EX Speedlite causing my 5D Mark II to...

Hi All,

I'm not sure if any of you have ever experienced the Shutter Speed on your 5D Mark II to be limited up to only 200 when the 430EX is attached to the camera AND turned on? I'm been experiencing this every time lately. However, when the speedlite is turned off (even while still attached) I do not have the same issue. Please share your experience. Is this a problem w/the camera or the speedlite? Is there a Canon repair/servicing center in NYC area? Thanks for your help!!
