5D Mark III Main Dial problem

Hi!
I was just doing test with some filters I've just got and I found an issue with the camera's main dial.
It seems to be a piece of rubber coming out of the dial, pink color more or less. At first it was making a little hard to turn the wheel, but then I realized that this rubber was coming out of it.

I did a quick search on google and I found only one person with the same problem.
I never had this problem before with canon cameras, but I'm thinking it could be a 5DMIII problem.
My camera was shipped from the first batch. People have reported some issues from first batch, like the one with the "light leak problem", that mine has too. Now this.

Does anyone have this problem?

Attached some pictures.
Thx!

Art Morris speaks to sharp IQ and f/8 AF with 1D X, 800mm f/5.6 L and Kenko 1.4x

I've been reading Arthur Morris' blog for around 9 months now, and particularly heavily since around May. He is an extremely talented bird photographer, well-known for his use of teleconverters and f/8 AF in Canon 1D series bodies. Since the advent of the 1D X and the first time ever that the 1D series from Canon does not officially support f/8 AF, Art (along with many other professional bird and BIF photographers) have naturally looked for a way around the problem. You can read about arts experiences with the Canon 1D X, Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS, and Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DGX teleconverter for functional 1120mm f/8 that produces sharp, professional results:

Seems the 1D X works superbly at f/8 with the Kenko TC.

Shooting sports High fps

I am wanting to shoot mostly indoor sports (basketball), and would like the high burst frame rate. Not enough money for a "x" with 14 fps. I also like to shoot animals and landscape. I live in Denali Park and also want a camera that is quite capable to have larger prints. Have a t1i at the moment and want to up grade. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you and god bless.

Sensor Cleaning experience on 1D X - Sharing results

Hi! I have posted before that my 1D X came from factory really dirty and I didn't really wanted to send it to CPS since my experience with their cleanings is disastrous.

So I tested first the camera cleaning, NOTHING.... absolutely no difference at all.... nada... wondered what is that Canon bragged so much about it...

Tax Free 5DmkIII from Shanghai

My friend is going to travel from Finland to Shanghai next month and I thought that I'd make him bring me a 5DM3 body. It should be somewhat cheaper to buy it tax-free from a country outside EU. China has value-added tax of 17% (I googled) so I should be able to save at least that.

So... I've tried to find a decent place to buy genuine Canon stuff, but I do not understand chinese and there is no-one to do the translation for me.

Any hints? Experience on shopping cameras from China? What's a good price for 5DM3 body there? Where to do the shopping?

This place (http://goshopshanghai.com/xing-guang-photographic-equipment-market-352.html) came up more than once. If nothing else comes up, I think I'll tell my friend to go there.

Canon 5D Mark II or a Real Video Camera?

Hello guys,

Well the Subject kind of talk for itself but let me be clearer about it ;

I'm a french camera man/editor (so i already apologize for my poor english :P) and i've been willing to get a video camera for a couple of years now. I'm also a passionate of photography so here is my dilemma :

I wanna do both (videos / pictures) which means i wanna include my work within my passion into the same device, so my first choice went for a DSLR (such as the 5D mk2).

But, for my job, i do a lot of interviews which can be very tricky for a DSLR; I'd rather have some XLR microphone(s) that i can plug than some jack ones; I know there are some adapters (such as dxa-5d) but that's pretty huge & heavy i think. Maybe there are some other choices to have proper audio during interviews, and i'd be thrilled to hear them, but is a 5d mk2 a good choice for certain purposes in videos?

I've rent and used the 7D and 5dmk2 for 2 years and i always used the sennheiser mke400 but i need some real mics for now on.

I don't know if i explained myself very clearly to you guys, but i'm around if you need more details.

Thanks!

Canon 1Dx, 500 mm, converter and vignetting

With the arrivel of a confinding juvenile Bairds Sandpiper on the Dutch coast and the first serious photography with my 1Dx, I discovered a complete new phenomenon for myself. The 1Dx is my first fullframe camera. I took my pictures with a ( type 1) 500mm/F4 and with a 1.4x converter ( type2 ) attached. With an aperture set on 5.6 there is obvious vignetting noticable. It disappears pretty much when the aperture is set to 7.1. So far I only knew of vignetting with wide-angle lenses. Compared to my mark 4, I have to trust the much better image quality at iso's above 500.
Is that a phenomenon occuring only with the older 500 mm, or is it due to the use of the converter? Does it also appears with the new telelenses?

By the way, the bird was not getting an very nice welcome. It was sand-blasted a lot on our sandy beaches.

Thanks,
Jan van Holten

Buying a Canon Speedlite 430 EX II - Advice Needed

Hello,

I am completely new to flash photography. I am a hobbyist and that being said one of the main purposes for the speedlite is that I hope to do portraits (single, group, etc), sometimes weddings (night events) and still life. I own a Canon 60D, but sometime down the road I have intentions to replace it with a 5D Mark III. I am contemplating buying the Canon 430 EX II soon. What I dont know is will I be able to wireless-ly trigger my flash and camera to take shots? If so, do I need additional hardware/device to be able to do that? If I later get myself the 5D, will I need a separate trigger again?

My second question is, as far as rechargeable batteries, and charger which brand would you fine folks recommend? Some suggest Eneloop, some Pearstone. I rather buy something that will last me longer than something that I have to replace often or will die out on me.

Third and last question, anything else I should be looking to add to the list over time? I will need a diffuser? Any particular type or brand I should be looking into?

Your advice is appreciated. Thanks :)

New 5dmiii user - love the camera so far

So I've skulked around the site for a long time and I own a 7d. My dream camera was the 1dx, but ain't gonna happen. So today, after going back and forth, I finally picked up the iii. I spent a couple hours calibrating my lenses and as soon as I got done I went out back with my 70-200 4.0 and attempted to get a hummingbird in flight.

Didn't really know what to expect since this isn't really an action camera but I think I did pretty well. I took about 20 shots as he (she?) surveyed the area to make sure it was safe. This one was the best. My 7d couldn't nail focus this well.

Tracking Birds?

I've been shooting a lot of birds lately and one problem I've been having is keeping them in focus while flying. I have tried al servo, regular etc, and once in a while I'll hit in spot on, but usually in a burst out of 15 photos 3 will focus on the bird lol. Is there a technique or tip anyone might have for all those fast birds out there :)?

using mono pod or ball head w/ 500mm sometimes with 1.4 or 2x extender
