Take this forum, it has to be paid for. I have had some bad days to make sure the forum sticks around. It's a financial/resource liability. The last month has been a trainwreck of frustration. It represents 7%-11% of the total traffic to the site. An even lower percentage contribute. Maybe the forum will fall off a cliff in traffic and will be done away with, I have no idea. It was on the chopping block, but I do believe it's worth keeping around over a Disqus comment section.
This is an interesting insight, but not surprising if you think about it. If you read a bit through the forum, it becomes quite clear that most of the comments come from a handful of people. There is only so much traffic these users can generate. And as it seems it pales in comparison to other kinds of users.
So that's that, and they're working to fix some small issues with the forum, that are proving to be annoying to find.
This was surprising to read for me. I would have thought that forum software has matured a long time ago to a point where it only needs to be set up initially with whatever subforums the owner wishes to have. But it seems that there is a lot more to it than I thought.
As for Neuro, lets gift him one of these, so he can come back with a new user name
