I am not in the market for the R6 but can't wait for the 45mm 1.2. Was looking to buy a portrait lens and don't want to spend L money.

On Canon RF bodies the AF reliability of the EF 50mm 1.2 L (and all Canon EF lenses) is much much better than it was on Canon DSLR bodies. Even the RF 50mm 1.2 L lens is hardly any better at autofocus. So why to spent money on a RF 45mm 1.2 STM lens with similar optical performance but weaker built quality. Ok, some less weight.Even if it's the same optically, the AF might be much more reliable.
Higher resolution sensor and EVF are just as photo oriented.looks like more improvements are gonna be video orientated. too bad.
A lens with that character for sub $600 is still awesome. That's about the same what I paid for the EF used. Not everybody's hunting for a tack sharp lens that is stripped of all optical imperfections.Correction (I read the communication incorrectly). Optical quality on par with the EF 50 f/1.2L USM.
Ditching the adapter, IMHO of course, is worth enough for spending the money; also, I don't know the used price of the EF 1.2 L but I guess is on pair or more expensive then the new RF 45 1.2 so there's also some possible saving. If the thing is good enough, I'll gladly ditch my 40 Art and hopefully get 50/100€ extra in return (but same price swap would be ok, too), without the hassle of the adapter.why to spent money on a RF 45mm 1.2 STM lens with similar optical performance but weaker built quality
- Price: €499 or €599 (We have been told both price points)
OUCH! Hahahaha. Vaseline coated optical elements lmao.....Correction (I read the communication incorrectly). Optical quality on par with the EF 50 f/1.2L USM.
The AF on the 50 f/1.2L EF lens is very reliable when adapted and used on the mirrorless bodies.Even if it's the same optically, the AF might be much more reliable.
Wow!Correction (I read the communication incorrectly). Optical quality on par with the EF 50 f/1.2L USM.
The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art has always been better than the EF 50mm f/1.2, the only parameter where the 1.2 lens took the lead was pretty much bokeh.Wow!
So maybe I could buy this cheap 45mm and buy the 85mm 1.4 VCM using the money I thought I would use for the RF 50mm 1.2...
But I need to check the optical quality first: I never liked the cheap RF 50mm STM and I'm currently happy with an adapted Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art.
My guess is this 45mm will be slightly sharper wide open, at least in the center of the frame - not by a lot, but slightly - mirrorless designs have been giving us that. But it's understandable, yours is a high end lens, this is not.On Canon RF bodies the AF reliability of the EF 50mm 1.2 L (and all Canon EF lenses) is much much better than it was on Canon DSLR bodies. I would replace my EF 50mm 1.2 L with a RF 50mm 1.4 L VCM, in the future.
Well, i dont think so.Will the canon R6 mark III do 4k60p uncropped oversampled from the new sensor like the R6 Mark II does with it’s sensor?
not gonna sell my 2 bodies to get better EVF or a bit more resolution. to put it into perspective resolution gonna be like 6900*4600 instead of 6000*4000.Higher resolution sensor and EVF are just as photo oriented.
Well, i dont think so.
Even the R5m2 and also the Video-Cam C50 do not have that feature

however 14 bit e-shutter, better readout speeds, better DR & noise, is way more tempting.
It still amazes me how some people keep buying the lens, even today, instead of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art.A review of the original EF 50mm f/1.2 USM L lens:

People like to brag L lenses, even when the lens sucks...it's just "I have a thicker wallet then yours"; you can afford it, and you want people to know you can. Some thinks buying third party lenses makes them "poor", but it's ok, as they swap lenses very easily at any new release, so in a short time they flood the used market with many pro lenses at bargain prices for people really needing them to buy. I actually appreciate thatIt still amazes me how some people keep buying the lens, even today, instead of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art.
