Mom needed no weapon but will remain vigilant, I'm sure.

I'm reminded of a quote from the classic Bond movie "You Only Live Twice"--

Bond: "Base-1, Little Nellie got a hot reception. Four big shots made improper passes at her but she defended her honour."

Family drama with a happy ending

At our local zoo, I discovered a mallard duck with three relatively freshly hatched chicks.
Unfortunately, they had chosen a pond that a pair of Egyptian geese obviously considered their territory.
The gander chased the duck several times around the pond and in and out of the water, while the ducklings in panic peeped and fled into the reeds.
Finally, the gander let go of the mallard, which also showed gestures of submission several times.
In the end, there was a reunion and a happy ending for the mallards in the reeds.

At first, I had trouble identifying the Egyptian Geese with my older identification books.
But then I read that they came to Europe as pet birds, escaped and sometimes become a plague, especially in Germany.
All adult birds did not have clipped wings. I therefore assume that they were wild birds.

I really hope your fellow citizens can handle it the same way "mom" could...
I have the same hope.

One more image (downy woodpecker) left over from yesterday.

Lots of shadow-lifting here--Photoshop CS3 (judicious use of Shadow/Highlight and a bit of Smart Sharpen) as well as Topaz Photo AI are essential tools. Of significance, I think: this was one of 3-4 usable images (out of about twenty, most of which were out of focus).

Other than shooting RAW (I seldom shoot RAW and did not here), I think this is as much as the gear used (and my technique:unsure: ) will allow.
