5d3 is the 2012 camera of the year!

I really would not pay too much attention to magazine awards, they are often controlled by advertising, whether current or future.

And when you read stuff like this,
It’s the Canon EOS 5D Mark III, and as the camera “that best refined or redefined photography,” it’s our Camera of the Year for 2012

The 5DIII definitely didn't redefine photography, and surely every single new camera that comes out "should" at least refine it.

+1000!

Looks like Canon is trying not to drop the price further ;)

It seems that DPReview's users have a quite different POV:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/12/21/best-camera-2012-poll

Yes, I have 5D3, it is my workhorse and I love it but IMHO the DPReview's poll is somewhat closer to reality.

No, I wouldn't trade my 5D3 for Oly OM-D EM-5 or for a Nikon D800, but the other companies were much more innovative - they tried harder (ok, in the case of Nikon the gist is, of course, the Sony's sensor) offering better value at a reasonable price.

This is what I would like to see from Canon.

Nikon D600 and D800/E and Sony RX1 and RX100 are imho the most innovative cameras of 2012. Price-wise or IQ-wise they really put something new on the table.

Low price isn't innovative last time I checked. They have a solid explanation to their choice I think, it lets you take pictures in situations where you haven't been able to before. Read the article. They also clearly state that they had to settle for refine and not redefine this year. I think few had complained if the D800 had been picked but what does that bring to the table except high resolution? My choice is also the 5D3 as I bought one for myself and it suits me perfectly. These picks are just for fun and to get some discussion going so they get clicks on their site, but it's always fun to read them. Don't take it too seriously.
