Another 5DIII problem? Preview too dark

I got my replacement 5DIII last week, and only got to play with it last weekend. I noticed a weird phenomenon. After I take a picture and go quickly to preview it by pressing 'play' button (I have auto-preview disabled), the picture will be dark like badly underexposed. Then if I leave the preview (e.g. by half pressing shutter release) and go back to it, the picture will appear properly exposed.

Very weird. Firmware bug? The body came with 1.1.1 firmware, I think.

There was a previous post about a person seeing this. Possibly a camera issue? Turn on preview and see if it still happens.

There are hundreds of thousands of camera users by now, I'd think that, if it were on every camera, we'd hear about it.

I noticed every so often the images on my instant review may be darker but when I hit the review button they look pretty good exposure wise. I read somewhere that it's the light sensor in the back of the camera getting confused by being close to your face and then being away and brightening the LCD... Try manually setting the LCD brightness instead of auto. If it still exists after that, then you may have an LCD issue.

I assume it's the auto brightness feature getting confused, like mentioned above. It's happened to me with all of my EOS cameras at some point or another (450D, 7D, 5D III). It's a terrible habit to judge exposure based on the brightness of the screen, so if it bothers you that much, set the brightness to max manually or take care not to cover the light sensor on the back of the camera (I have quickly determined that this is the small circle near the bottom left of the LCD display by shining a torch on it then entering image playback).
