Just a personal observation on this picture: it's one of the best advertisements for the quality of the 5Ds s/r that I've seen to date, and it was shot on the 24-105L :-\

This is the valley just east of Logan's Pass in Glacier National Park.

This version is actually a 200+ frame stitch shot w/ my 70-200 at 200. Not sure this fits the concept of the thread but it was shot w/ a 5DSr.

I re-stitched the right hand side and "shrunk" it down to a 1.4 gigapixel image. Loaded up the 198 meg version which is 65k x 20k ish or so on flikr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/77760916@N05/20556744904 to get to the link for the higher resolution image

What an amazing amount of detail, 200+? thats insane, when I take 50 its very difficult, was it handheld?

Agreed - there are some great images in this thread. I didn't think I'd be tempted by a 5Ds/R, and truth be told I still don't think it's for me any time soon, but ...

One thing I did notice is the choice of auto-focus points/mode seems to be critical. I was shooting some rodeo and getting crappy results until switching to single point. This was most noticeable at f2.8. There might be some interaction with the IS and tracking modes, but this really needs to be a whole separate test.

Not sure I agree with your other points, but this is a critical issue.

The AF may very well be Canon's best to date (I think it is). However the mode is really very important. Combined with the enormous amount of software choice for setting and fine tuning the AF a in-depth study/test/review of the AF capabilities of the 5DS/R would be extremely interesting and useful for all owners.

Sadly I have no time to do this myself. But if anyone does they will be doing many people a great favor!

I just pulled the trigger on a 5DSr today, prompted in part by the excellent images and commentary in this thread. Looking forward to receiving it in time for fall foliage photography in October!

Not a great shot by any means, just showing the detail. Cropped image is 1:1. 1/2500, F/8, ISO 800. 600 F/4 Non IS with 1.4TC MkIII. Anyone familiar with Conowingo Dam knows how far this is. I think it's about 300 yards. Taken on a warm day with slight haze. Exported from LR with default settings, no noise reduction.

I took the 5DS to the Reno Air Races last weekend. I chose the 100-400 and started shooting.
The initial results were very good, so kept shooting with it over four days. I'm not one of those
that shoots like a machine gun, but 2 or 3 frames at the right moment. It's kind of like the old days of shooting on film.
As an example, this screen shot speaks for itself. Lots of pixels to work with. 8)
Upper left is the thumbnail of the full frame.
