Any thing Shot with a 5ds/r

KeithBreazeal you've just sold me on this camera. Your pictures are fantastic. I shoot artistic sports and like you, I'm one who waits for the right moment rather than gunning all the time. I've had my heart set on a 5DSR but realise it's not the traditional choice for sports - I've always thought this camera had the potential to be amazing for action shots in the hands of a photographer who doesn't keep his finger on the trigger at all times and you've proved my point :) Thanks!

Keith, you sure prove that this camera can be used for a few things beyond studio and landscape shots :)

Just returned from 10 days in Mana Pools, in the north of Zimbabwe. Leopard was high on my wish list, but I did not expect to find any. But Mana delivered.

This was shot handheld at 1/125s, with the 200-400 f4L IS 1.4x @560mm, f5.6 and ISO 500. It would have been sharper on a tripod, but it works for me.

Beautiful colour coordination !

Thanks guys :)
One thing about this camera is that it is so good at textures that it looks so real.
I was showing a fellow aviation shooter how to shoot people/models and the effect of shallow depth of field.
I saw this woman and asked if I could shoot her. My friends were hysterical that I could walk up to perfect strangers and get them to agree. LOL There's a longer story here, but I'll skip that. ;)
So, this was a handheld using the 100-400L(version 1) The skin tones, textures and her eyes are just so good
that even I was stunned.
In a controlled studio shoot, you would need a magnifying glass to check a models makeup before shooting.

Congrats. :) Looking forward to seeing your pictures.
Thanks - I'm scheduled to cover a couple of sports championships in the coming weeks (gymnastics & skating). Hopefully this will be of interest to you guys since I haven't seen anything like it in the thread! I guess not many people have experimented with the camera in that kind of context which makes it all extremely fun.

I'm excited about the rumours of good AF for the skating - up until now I was on the Mark II which was quite slow.

This is the valley just east of Logan's Pass in Glacier National Park.

This version is actually a 200+ frame stitch shot w/ my 70-200 at 200. Not sure this fits the concept of the thread but it was shot w/ a 5DSr.

I re-stitched the right hand side and "shrunk" it down to a 1.4 gigapixel image. Loaded up the 198 meg version which is 65k x 20k ish or so on flikr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/77760916@N05/20556744904 to get to the link for the higher resolution image

What an amazing amount of detail, 200+? thats insane, when I take 50 its very difficult, was it handheld?

Shot w/ a fairly heavy duty tripod and the RSS pano head. 70-200 at 200 and offset to pretty much eliminate the parallax - which would be minimal at the distance anyway.

Glad you liked it

Nice one Eldar, a fixation on Leopards in the Wild has in my experience been the slippery slide to wanting more, and more, and more, you'll see my point I'm sure.

Thanks guys,
Yes Edward, I do believe this is quite adictive and I am already busy planning the next trip. This leopard was a big surprise. We came around a turn and there it was, lying as a sfinx, waiting for us. Beautiful animal!

The weekend before I left for this trip, I had installed the Ec-S focusing screen in my 1DX, which makes the view finder a lot darker and forgot to reinstall the standard screen. So I ended up using my 5DSR a lot more than planned. This shot was at 560mm and 1/125s shutter speed. And even though it is not totally sharp, I still believe it shows that this camera is a lot more versatile than many people believes.

Stunning. 8) Well done Keith.

Thanks :) I think Canon won't promote the 5DS for action because so many sports shooters tend to rack off so many shots at a time. Once the word gets out on the camera's ability to capture the types of images I have managed to get, there might be some converts. I know I have made a few over the past few airshows. You just have to be weaned off the 30 shots bursts. Buffering is slow, but OK if you aren't trigger happy. At least it won't lock up while buffering. I try to shoot ISO 100 up to the point of losing shots to low shutter speeds. ISO 400 is still good and is my personal limit. I'll switch to the 5D III when in low light. The old 100-400L seems to be a good performer with the 5DS- much to my surprise. The 300 2.8 is insanely good. The Reno Air Races file is 350 GB!!!! That's the downside.
