Great pictures Chuck, I especially like the third one. How did you feel about the higher ISO performance of the rental?

TY!

High ISO, i think it did pretty darn good.

Here's a straight out of camera image (ok, not straight, lightroom jpeg, no adjustments though.) It's ISO 3200, church wasn't lit very nicely either. (5dsr)

For how i shoot weddings I think it will work really nice as I have a 5d mk3 that I can lean on for darker venues. 3200 was the highest I needed (matching the body with prime lenses so that helped keep the ISO in check. Also, i only run with both bodies for the ceremony and the beginning of the reception (intros, first dances). So it ends up being a nice 1-3 ration with the mk3 (the bulk of the work still goes to the mk3 but, the mk3 gets a break for certain things that it wouldn't with my old second body - the 6d. 6d is capable but I hate the little limitations, which i would deal with but...I really really really am frustrated with button layout, I want to have same controls on both bodies and the 5ds/r does fit in real well for that.

Note too, for the weddings I shot with the 5ds and the 5dsr, the decision to not use it for the reception had nothing to do with it's ability to perform, but more with the type of images that are bound to be at a reception ---- lol, the content just doesn't warrant the file size. So it's a bit strategic, the 5ds/r comes out when the impact image is needed.

Second image is another Iso 3200 shot, but with the 5ds. this one did get a nice polish, but still shows very good results for 3200 ISO.

Thanks for the response and additional pictures, very nice!

After I posted this question, I tried out my 5DSr in some low light situations and it did pretty well. I've learned I need to keep the shutter speed high (2-3x focal length) for sharp pictures, so the ISO's are higher than with my 6D, but the noise seems to clean up nicely, especially when downsized. I took some firelight shots recently that turned out great, even at ISO 3200 and 4000. I was planning to keep my 6D for low-light use, but I'm thinking about selling it now and using the money to buy another lens. I am an amateur, so don't really need 2 bodies.

If any of you are interested to know how the camera performs for indoor sports, these are from the Gymnastics World Champs.

I'm shooting most with the 400mm 2.8 IS II, some with the 70-200.
ISO 3200, speed 1250/s. All shots JPEG due to small file/ fast turnover requirements.

I'm more than happy with the low light performance.

More evidence of things you can´t do with a 5DS/R ... which you can do with a 5DS/R :)

Indeed
And that the photographer needs to know what they are doing in the first place!

So this evening I tried to experiment shooting in raw and that lasted all of 2 minutes - the camera is indeed not fast enough for that. The JPEGs are great though - I've never shot with a Mark III to compare I find the low-light performance of this camera to be exceptional.

ETA - never mind, I couldn't get the posting images feature to work.

Out of curiosity has anyone tried/used MRaw? was wondering what the buffer depth is like at 28MP?
I used MRaw for my color checker (because X-rite's software cannot handle the large full-RAW files from the 5DSR). This seems to work well in achieving color accuracy. At least it gives me better colors in Lightroom than Adobe's default - the "crushed" shadows are really a problem here.

Must be a bit of a pain remembering to change, I'd have to put a post-it on the passport ! ;D

The first one was taken with a 400mm 2.8, the others with a 70-200.
