I have no idea about the size of your wasp but look at Polistes carolina and Polistes rubiginosus. I know noting about the wasps - just using my experience from other fields of taxonomy. I mean: take my suggestions with a (big!) spoon of salt................Can anyone help me identify this weird Loki-looking flying fire ant wasp thing? Location is Mt Timpanogos, Utah.
