A few from an outing this weekend. These were at Parker River National Wildlife Reserve (aka Plum Island), a good local destination for birding. Unusually, I did not see any great blue herons this outing, typically there are a few along the marshes. Lots of egrets, as usual.

Take-out for Lunch" – bonus shot because of the behavior. I have seen plenty of birds of prey flying in slow circles from updraft to updraft as they migrate or as they search for prey. But once prey is caught, I typically see them travel more directly to a roost to eat. This osprey was a fair distance away, circling slowly closer, then overhead, then off into the distance, carrying lunch the whole time. Tomorrow I'll be driving several towns over to get the best quality locally-caught lobsters...maybe this osprey was in a similar situation.
