Duck Orchid finally makes its appearance. It's taken 2 months, from one small leaf, to a stem, and finally a flower

Love the IS on this lens I get sharp pictures even in the cold when I'm shaking. One question I noticed after about 20 minutes in 20F temps that the auto focus would stop until you turned the focus ring a few times then it would work again has anyone had this problem ? I guess maybe it doesn't like freezing.

I've found that my 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS seems to hunt for focus a bit more in low light than other f/2.8 lenses. It does a very nice job as a portrait lens, outstanding bokeh...!

But you are right: it is a beautiful portrait lens. In certain settings I actually reach for it over my 135L.

I just un-boxed my new 100 2.8 L Macro. I took a couple of "macro" shots of light switches, box labels, and parts of my bedroom wall just to try it out. The subjects and the photos are awful, but the lens is marvelous. Can't wait to try it for real!
Now, gotta get going on the MIR paperwork. I actually am thinking about a future Tammy 24-70 f/2.8, the 70-200 f/2.8, my 17-40 and this 100 as my new "travel kit" but it is not always practical to change lenses in the field. Besides, I have to recoup the $ I just spent on the two lenses.

Tamron recently sent me their new(ish) 90mm f/2.8 Macro VC lens, so I am testing it at the moment and will do some head to head comparisons with my beloved 100L (which is very unlikely to leave my bag!)
The Tamron is a really nice lens, but the 100L is not only a fabulous lens but these days is often available at an excellent price. It's hard to beat. That being said, I'm not familiar enough with Sony and Nikon's lineups to know if Tamron might not do a little more damage there.

Common Brown butterfly. Resting on the side of my house, waiting to warm up in the coolness of the morning.
After a few minutes, it started to slowly pump its wings, as the sun started to shine. A minute or so after this pic, it took off. Probably didn't help having a macro lens 200mm away, flash popping off
