Canon has patented an optical formula for an RF 200mm f/2L IS USM

I can see Canon eventually manufacturing a RF 200 mm f2 lens, but I also know that I will not be purchasing one.

Especially with the 100-300/2.8 already in the kit...

I wonder if EF 200/2 will become RF 70-200/2, a zoom.

However...it'll be a tough sell for a new RF one, I can pickup a mint S/H EF one for only £3K

The flange distance along with technological advancements should yield and smaller and lighter lens.
That would make the old less appealing.
The good news is that the price of it should drop even more.

EF 300/2.8 became RF 100-300/2.8, a zoom.

70-200 f/2 would be a monster.
There is a patent for a 70-135 f/2.
Maybe a 200 f/2 prime would be all that is needed.
The rationale for the RF 100-300 f/2.8 being a zoom is that there is no advantage to an RF 300 vs an EF 300 due to the back focus length.
Making it a zoom gives a 100-300 a huge advantage over an SLR equivalent.
It makes the similarly priced Nikon 120-300 look like a hideous monster.

Could be a viable option for me instead of the 300mm f/2.8 we probably never will get. Especcialy with a high MPIX body. Would be very interested.
