The flange distance along with technological advancements should yield and smaller and lighter lens.
That would make the old less appealing.
The good news is that the price of it should drop even more.
70-200 f/2 would be a monster.
There is a patent for a 70-135 f/2.
Maybe a 200 f/2 prime would be all that is needed.
The rationale for the RF 100-300 f/2.8 being a zoom is that there is no advantage to an RF 300 vs an EF 300 due to the back focus length.
Making it a zoom gives a 100-300 a huge advantage over an SLR equivalent.
It makes the similarly priced Nikon 120-300 look like a hideous monster.
