The patent states a focal length of 26.62 mm, maybe Canon will round this up to 28 mm.

I still don't understand this focal length.
If you own a 24mm or a 28mm, why should you buy it? WA standard zooms start at 24 or 28mm, existing or future primes are -will certainly be- 24 and 28mm...
Unless this lens is meant for a very specific purpose, I'm at a loss for what to do with this focal...

If these do have ‘video features’ then canon needs to think about releasing some professional cine cameras with RF.
These are full frame lenses but they don’t have a full frame cinema camera with RF.

I think their departments need to talk to each other.

I can accept 26mm f1.4, it's wider than 28mm. RF mount is desperate for L primes

A 26mm Prime would indeed be somewhat odd and not in accordance with our expectations. But remember, Zeiss has a 1.4/25mm Milvus wich also does not fit to the usual FL for FF. And 25mm Primes at least are common in cine-lenses (Arri, Zeiss, Cooke).

To be fair, that has the same perspective as a 20mm lens, which is a lot more common (e.g. Sigma has a 20/1.4, Nikon and Sony have 20mm f/1.8s).

Zeiss has a long 25mm tradition (Biogon, Milvus, Batis, Distagon). Same with 20-21mm lenses. Some companies prefer 20mm, Leica and Zeiss opt for 21mm, No reason, just a choice.

Wich is btw also true for other Standard-FL. Remember all the various 55 und 58mm Primes - instead the "usual" 50mm. And of course the Portrait-FL is not always 85 mm like Canon, Zeiss and Nikon. Leica used to have 90mm - except the 80mm Summilux-R and the 75mm Summicron/lux-M.

So, if I think it over, why not an RF 26mm?

We have 3 R5c cameras which have been our workhorses for years. But they we only supposed to see us through until a professional camera came out. It’s been 2 years. Our rigs a crazy to make it work as a good cine camera. Cage, rails, v-mount plate with cables, hdmi to sdi coverts with cables, useable monitors with cables. It’s great but it’s an absolute mess.

Could be. But normally Canon would round this up to the "better side".
A 382mm tele will become a "400mm".
A 26 mm WA will become a "24 mm".
We'll see, what patent will come to live at all.

If Canon makes a full-frame 25 mm lens they call it 24.
They use the exact focal length for APS-C lenses.
I think Zeiss prefers to be exact.
