Oh my goodness, a RF 24-400mm f5.6. That's your one lens on holiday / mini safari lens right there. Talk about super-versatile! An effective 35-650mm f5.6 lens on RFs! Sign me up and a R7 tomorrow! Forget your RF 100-500 f7.1 LIS, this lens would be the one to get on on both Rf and Rfs mounts!

I wonder how good such an extreme zoom like the 24 - 400 could be.
I have some reasonable doubts...

I know it has been discussed here a few times, but a proper L-series replacement for the 28-300mm F/3.5-5.6L would be rather exciting. Personally, I never gave much consideration for a lens like this until I was shown the versatility of that lens and I went on to buy the RF 24-240 for myself. While it certainly won’t win any optical awards, its versatility made it extremely valuable for me to use at some events I shoot. Perhaps we will see one of these lenses hit the shelf? I would love for it to be the 24-300, but both other options are enticing as well!

Certainly would have some compromises, but could be less than previous efforts.
As the 24-105 f/2.8 is showing, Canon can now make a 4X zoom nearly equal in image quality to a 2.5X zoom.

If you look at their broadcast lenses, they can make 10x zooms at good quality as well. It’s just going to cost you a lot more money

20-240 will be massive....... I just want a better 24-240, I'm willing to take 24-180 with f3.5~f5.6

I'd give some consideration to a high-quality RF 24-300mm zoom. I had the EF 28-300L for a while, and though it was convenient I found that I got better IQ from the combination of the 24-105/4L and 70-300L (I sold the 28-300L, but I had bought it used and ended up selling it for more than I paid).

The patent length for the 24-300mm is about the same as the EF 28-300L (shorter when retracted, slightly shorter when extended but about the same distance from the sensor), to me that suggests if made into a product it would likely be an L lens (there was a non-L EF 28-300mm that was much smaller).

Same here! I was never a fan of super zooms.
Too much of a compromise of size, price and IQ.
But with the 24-240 already available, only the 24-400 could make it to the market.
But I'm not part of that market

An RF 24-400 f/4-5.6 would get people to stop complaining about dark aperture zooms.
Then they could go back to complaining about outrageous prices.

Love these. The 24-300 looks like a production possibility and matches as a replacement for venerable 28-300. Only wish(es) 24-300 be constant base aperture like a 24-300 F4 and take extenders.

The 28-300 is 7.8 inches long and weighs 3.7lb while the 300 f4 is 8.7 inches long and weighs 2.6 lb, wonder what would constant F4 setup be like.

Having a 20-240 IS L (or non-L but like the 200-800) would be great. 3 lens set would cover you from 10-800 for a crazy 80x zoom range with very good image quality!
