From working in industry I think we often have an internal project that has several related technologies and could result in several patents that would move through the intestines of the patent system more or less in lock-step. Three patents in one day on unrelated technologies would be a head-scratcher, but three that seem to be discussing the same ultimate lens actually gives me suspicions that such a lens is actually being worked on.

Canon really needs something better than the RF 100-500 as an answer to Nikon's 180-600. And for that matter also Sony's 200-600.

I really hate using extending zoom lenses outdoors in rain and dust.
(Mine has only been used for a year, but can already see a relatively large amount of dust on the inside of the front element. And have seen other people's 100-500 completely fogged up inside after some time of use in light rain.)

So I'm really hoping for an RF 150-600 with internal focus, which takes converters without limitations in the zoom range, and costs less than 3000$ :)

The Canon rf 100-500 is not a direct competitor to the 150/200-600 class lenses, but more in the 100-400 class.
And note the Sony 200-600 suffers from quite heavy focus breathing at close focus distances, so at closer focus distances it seems to be closer to 500mm than 600mm. Ref youtube videos from Jan Wegner.

Personally, I find the Rf 100-500 to be extremely good and very versatile, and I don't think I will buy a 150-600 L. But a 200/300-800/1000mm would make more sense and would be very tempting. (I have previously owned a Tamron G1 150-600, and the EF 100-400 II L)

I have i hunch that perhaps Canon will not release a "common 150-600" but rather go for a unique 200-800 to make them stand out a bit.

For the airshow and contrail photography, an RF 100-1000mm f4.5 - 9.0 would be perfect. But the listed 200-1000 with the f9.0 far end also fine. Maybe I will have hard time with the closer taxiing on an airshow, or the landing planes during a runway spotting. (Now, for me it is just a first world problem really)
I also highly welcome a 70-700 f4 - f8, or a 80-800 as well.
The 200-1000 and the 300-1000mm, so the chopped close end range super tele zooms are typically made for bird and wildlife photographers, where simply just no reason to zooming out below 2-300mm from a 800-1000-1200mm with a single lens. But for an aviation photographers, we need to zoom in an out quite long distances quickly. The 1000mm f9.0 specs seems very promising from image quality standpoint, since my 1000mm reflex mirror has f10 aperture and because of the mirror design, the IQ is very soft. All in all, that would be fine if the Canon RF lens line up has a 10x super tele zoom L series big gun.

Jan Wegener claims to "know" a 200-800mm is coming...

I don't know if it has been mentioned elsewhere here (I couldn't find any mentions), but Jan Wegener seems pretty convinced to know that Canon will release a 200-800mm soon:

In the second video he quote sources saying it will be coloured like an L-lens, but not actually be an L-lens. Interesting if true (maybe even I can afford it), but I wonder if it's just because people have seen/tried prototypes that was not 100% "branded"...

Thanks for the heads up. A 200-800 f/8 would be nice but I think a 200-800 f/9 would be easier to handle, weighing less and would take a 95mm filter.

I also think I would prefer f/9 in the long end for size, weight and handling (and price). But for sure, a lot of people will be complaining :)
